"Schengen white list not till 2010"

Due to failure to meet its obligations and the parliamentary impasse, citizens won't be able to enjoy visa-free travel to the EU till early 2010, says Dnevnik.

Hungary: first 20-50DM then 30-50 Euro. mainly just after you cross the border. (info from Hu aunt)
(adrian/bucharest, 10 October 2008 18:26)

Adrian, ouch, did not know, we are so cheap. It hurts. But... maybe I should apply for the job there, 50 Euro under the table once in a while is not that bad. Just hope, these are not "freshly printed" Euros.

Now I know, why they are always so angry on the train: barely any income: too many fellow train passengers are witnesses.

Thanks for telling me tough... It looks, like Socialism is always a Socialism.

Regarding Ukrainians I know, I was told on a different forum that if we (me and my colleagues from SRB) have to take a lot of equipment (instruments, analyzers, comp, etc.) the best is to go via Belarus, not Ukraine. "Slavic Brothers", "Americans", blah-blah-blah do not exist: you have some equipment = you are probably rich = "baksheesh, shaheeb!".

"When will Albania and "Kosova" receive EU candidate status?"

The countries of Romania and Bulgaria burned EU (corruption, theft, poverty) so now everyone else will have to wait longer.

Princip,
Tadic was given awards but then he was told specificically not to do the ICJ trick. 'You have the right to do it, but then don't come to EU asking ...if you work against EU interests'

EU aren't dumb and they hold all cards, Serbia and all the Balkans are begging for entry. Kiss candidate status goodbye too .

Luigi,

"White List" is merely a visa-free regime. Countries like Venezuela, Paraguay, Malaysia will be never in the EU, but they are on the "white list".

The "white list" is a good instrument of haggling. Serbia has it's transit routes.
Greece-Italy traffic has it's own limits.

Try to drive on M-0 around Budapest and see, how heavy the traffic from Serbia towards EU is. Trucks, trucks, trucks... and many deadly accidents.

The situation is bad enough that it's probably better to drive from BP to Osijek, than turn to the ZG-BG freeway and cross to Serbia at Sid instead to go on M-5, than on the 'unfinished business' from Horgos till almost NS - but still pay the toll.

"Your border guards are as corrupt as ours"

LOL, this is true, but since I am not a Serb, the word about "ours":

1) Hungarian border guards are in probably 100 Euro range, but never tried.
2) Americans are even more expensive - but much less frequently and it is very dangerous to even try. Never tried either and don't plan to do.

Even with 20 Euro, it's a pain in the *ss - and that's precisely the goal.

You seem to think that Serbia is an important country in the region. It is not!! Serbia is a small country with only 7 million people!! Even if Serbia joins the EU she will not influence EU policies because Serbia will not have many votes in the EU institutions.

Ataman, there is one big problem with your plan: Your border guards are as corrupt as ours. A 20 EUR bribe and nothing happened.

P.S. @Mr.Ataman
Already a lot of lorry traffic bypass all the balkans simply from Greece arrive in the italian ports of Adriatic and then up via A14 to the north..

Why is Venezuela with the "democratic" Chavez on the "white list"?

Good idea: look at the map and count the bridges over Danube between Romania and Bulgaria. They can't sustain the traffic. Serbia can bring the entire traffic across SE Europe to a halt by adopting more tough measures regarding transit vehicles (say, 1000 Euro road toll for transit, unless "white list"). The explanation: "we need the money to compensate our citizens for inconvenience regarding visa fees, lost time at consulates, etc". Vehicles with Slovak, Romanian, Greek, Russian, Belarus, Ukrainian, Georgian, etc. license plates will be excempt, of course. ;)

I bet, EU will beg them to drop the toll and get on the white list. Easy and simple.

Here is the procedure:

a) you enter the country with German/American/Turkish/Albanian/etc. license plate. Nothing happens, if you have "green card".

b) at the exit the border guards will check the entry stamp. If it is less, than 72 hours apart from the entry, they check the entry point. If it looks like you had a short visit for shopping/attending wedding/etc. - fine. The ports of entry/exit will be obviously close. If, however, you entered the country at Horgos or Sid, but want to exit it at Presevo or Dimitrovgrad: you were on transit, so pay 1000 Euro in form of a special government stamp. Such stamps would NOT be sold at the border, but at authorized post offices and of course tamper-free.

That means, everyone (except vehicles with "SK", "GR", "RUS", etc. signs) who is on transit will be forced to stay in Serbia at least 3 days - or pay 1000 Euro.

Believe me, the "white list" will come like a magic!

""Given that Serbia has not kept its part of the bargain, its chances of reaching the white list by the middle of next year are remote," the sources told Dnevnik. "

- Tadic is given awards in EU countries but the actions of the EU who look for the first opportunity in turning its back on the false promises and dud carrots they gave to the D yes to all that EU demands before the elections are now shown to be nothing more then words and empty promises. No doubt there will be another "reason" to not allow Serbia on the white list in 2010!!!

Empty promises wont fool the electorate at the next elections. Beyond which either TAdic starts to realise he has been taken for a fool by the EUcrts or the Serbian electorate will make him realise it!!
