Ataman,

A more important day was October 25, 1983. That was the day that Ronald Reagan established the modern American foreign policy. Since that day every single one of Reagan’s successors expanded a U.S. President's ability to unilaterally invade sovereign nations despite domestic and international laws. While Clinton’s WHDs (Weapons of Humanitarian Destruction) rained death on Passenger trains, Albanian refugees and cigarette factories, Senators Biden and McCain reached across the isle in support of what Biden called "a German or Japanese style of occupation of Serbia". He said this on (if memory serves me correctly) Meet the Press.

On Nov 4, Either McCain or his pal Biden will be the new proprietors of US foreign policy. regardless Serb hater McCain will take the same old approach to Serbia, or in an Obama white house it is not unlikely that Biden and Secretary of State Richard Holbrooke brief the president on "conflict-politics" and Serbia. Obama will defer to their experience, he does not want to look weak like Bush1 did before he invaded Panama illegally.

Either way Nov 4 (actually the inauguration is typically on Jan 21 of the following year) will be business as usual with the United States and its Balkan whipping boy as long as we allow ourselves to be whipping boys.

We need a Serbian government that demands its own concessions of Europe. They will not like it, but if we keep it legal and honest they will have to deal with it. So much more so if Serbia is able to establish itself as a bridge between Europe, Asia and Russia. The Tadic Dinkic doctrine of Serbian submission and Russian betrayal is not going to bring us the respect of Europe. We need a new government that does not look to Brussels for all the answers.
We do not need employee of the month awards from the Germans. We do not need their friendship, we only need their business and respect.

As far as that Palin, she will do as her subordinates tell her to do just like Dubya has. The US under Palin can not be worse than the US under Du(m)bya.

Either way I have enjoyed reading your comments.

bring down Solana's boys

That cannot be to goal, Marko. Otherwise you will land up like Viktor Orbán whose only goal to bring down Gyurcsány - no matter what. His party changed political direction few times since 1989, but the naive crowd does not see the forest because the trees are blocking the view.

If I would be even the most radical Serb, I would sit in some silent corner, speak very softly and smile friendly at Solana - till Nov. 4, 2008. Who needs more tension and why spend more energy on things what can be potentially solved much cheaper after Nov. 4 than make big noise and blow the things before that. Imagine palin as VP, potentially as a president and imagine how the world will look like with her being in control.

This is precisely why putin - as much as I don't like him - is 100% correct. saakashvili had to help the failing campaign of McCain, even if few thousand Georgians/Ossetians/Russians would die. (Un)fortunately, everything they planed collapsed because of the Wall Street problems.

Hopefully we will be at "square one" regarding KosMet in January after bush is out of the game and it's what as you called them "Solana boys" do gamble about. Obama still favors UDI, but unlike bush, he is not focused on conflict-politics. "Solana boys" did the correct thing with ICJ, thank them (and impotent Kosovo-UCK-in-charge) the expected "recognition tsunami" did not happen. Good crisis management - and if they would bet on strong Russian support, that would not happen. Like everyone else, Russians, too, look forward for Nov. 4, 2008 and conflict is not in their interest.

In other words, would SRS win counting on broad Russian support, they would probably be much worse off now than the "Solana boys".

What will happen even after a possible positive outcome on Nov. 4 is impossible to predict - imagine hollbrooke or hillary as Secretary of State. Just cross your fingers, it won't happen. With negative outcome: it will be a disaster for everyone, current crooks in Pristina included.

He said that he had called on the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and New Serbia to cooperate with the new party, but that no response had yet been forthcoming.

If Nikolic wants to be part of a moderate conservative movement, he should join the NS or the DSS. At some point we will have to unite the right and I thing the Radicals would work with a DSS/NS coalition before they worked with the SNS.

Lets not forget that the Radical party is not going to disapear anytime soon, we all need to find ways to work with each other to bring down Solana's boys
