ZK then you can't have been more than a a few hundred metres away from me - as I was inside the stadium watching my first derby for years.

The best moment was when the grobari unfurled a huge banner at the beginning of the match of a peasant boy heading walking down a path signposted to Belgrade with carrying a knapsack. The grobari were infuring that most of us Zvezda fans are actually not from Belgrade at all but from the sticks. A bit rich coming from that lot...

But more seriously the game was pretty poor and had a couple of red cards. As you noticed the police were absolutely everywhere - the only way they belive they can control the situation.

But football needs radical change. However, when you think about it the supporters / hooligans are only obeying the laws they believe apply in this society. In other words this is a serious social problem that needs to be solved at a deeper level. One of the big problems is lack of respect for the law.

bganon, I live very close to the stadium and could hear all of the chanting. It was quite amazing to tell you the truth and the first time I experienced it here.

I was surprise at the number of police and the riot gear they were wearing. Personally, I think it was a bit over the top and they really need to start targeting those trouble makers so that people can enjoy the game without fear.

I don't see this as any different to other parts of the world except the approach of the police needs to be revised.

I drove past the stadium yesterday and saw all of the police getting prepared for the game in what seemed to be full riot gear.

Why not follow the system of identifying the trouble makers and banning them from future matches? It is a slow process but it seems to have worked in the UK.

This provides us another example of the Governments failure to lead. They are afraid of making an unpopular decision to suspend a few future matches, if soccer hooligans create anarchy in the streets.

Hello,

This is getting too be shameful. People need to understand this is only a game. GROW UP! I believe if people are involved in this kind of behavior they should be jailed for a long time. Is it really worth losing your life over a soccer game.
