How about a documentary about slavery in the US, the genocide of native Americans and their current lives in reservations, the apartheid state that the US was until the 1960's, the war crimes committed in Vietnam, Serbia, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the list goes on and on. Use that money to buy you and your family a ticket out of Serbia. All commentator except "Dashnori i Ceces" I agree with you, but unfortunately this person will not dare to read them for he is a person who does not stand the truth.

Why doesn't the ambassador donate money to fix up the buildings that were destroyed by the 1999 US cruise missile attack on Belgrade that are right down the street from the us embassy? Is it because he has never seen them due to fear of walking on that street?

It is indeed a good gesture, but if the US really wants to play an active part in "understanding the past" in the region, and helping nations understand their own past, I'd say start an initiative in Croatia to educate their young on the horrors of Jasenovac.

You don't need to tell a Serb about how much they collectively suffered in WWII. You need to tell a Croat what their nation did in slavish collaboration with Nazi Germany.

Right after they are done with Srebrenica, Foca, Omarska etc etc etc.

...And use pictures of human organs cut from Serbs alive - at the begin of the movie, just as a prologue. The entire movie can be called: "how low can humans fall".

"a documentary should be done on human rights abuse at Guantanomo"

Right after they are done with Srebrenica, Foca, Omarska etc etc etc.

Classic example of damned if you do damned if you don't it seems. Do some of the posters here feel that the donation is an insult? If he didn't donate would that be an insult?
I say thank you Mr. Munter (If it was a personal donation) for recognizing this tragic part of history.

Nice gesture - and if it was a personal donation - it counts much more than the controversal 50 millions. Less is sometimes more.

And thanks for supporting a good cause.

Thankyou Mr Munter, a nice gesture, victims of fascism need to be remembered - totally agree.

So, in that vein, how about a documentary about the USA's help to the Croat regime's genocide on Krajina in 1995?

I personally don't need to watch it, I was there and lived it (and a child at that), but in the spirit of "facilitate understanding of the past", this is something that needs to happen (and there are so many more documentaries that the USA needs to make and watch).

I wonder how much Munter would give to that one?

It's OK, I already know the answer - ZERO.

a documentary should be done on human rights abuse at Guantanomo where inmates are detained indefinitely at Yankee pleasure without trial. I'm sure there will be no short of willing donors too.
