It is so funny to see all these "loving" comments about the US bankruptcy. .....
(Joe, 4 October 2008 04:18)"

Joe,

So you are tickled pink. Too bad those ex-bankers and homeless mortgagors your country don't share your merriment!

Peggy

Asked about the possibility of a partition of the province if all else fails, he said that Kosovo’s status had been resolved and that the U.S. opposed any partition.

Really!! I must've missed that memo from the UN.

Can you please quote the date when status was resolved and in whose favour? Who had the final say on this?
So many questions to ask you but you only hit and run. You don't stick around to clarify anything.

It is so funny to see all these "loving" comments about the US bankruptcy. Well we are not there yet. I find those people, who write them kind of suicidal because all our problems already affect them greatly in Europe but they want more of it. Well they will get more!
I think this bailout will hardly help and the situation will get worse for a while. Consequence for Europe: deeper recession, more misery. Checking many sites in UK, Germany and France on a daily basis I see how thinks deteriorate and very fast. Spain's unemployment just went up like a rocket. Some US companies are leaving Irland for Poland (good for Poland). The euro, which by the ardent wishes of most Europeans was supposed to conquer the world dropped today again. On Bloomberg it closed at 1.3772 USD. In June-July it used to be around 1.60. Is it because Europe will continue to share our pain? Most likely.
In 2 weeks I am going to visite Europe again. It will be interesting to see how the US haters are doing.

Brian, how dare they?? they are Serbian citizens like all Kosovo is. What the US is trying to do is bribe Serbia trouble is Tadic is so hell bent on being in the EU he just may give up Kosovo. What the Serbs need is a strong leader, one party to lead the country instead of this coalition political rubbish.

Brian

Someone should tell the Serbs of Kosovo that Kosovo status in settled. They are acting like they are citizens of Serbia. How dare they!!

Felix

Not really worth any comment but difficult to abstain on this one: "the U.S. would _continue_to_support_ both _Serbia_ and Kosovo".

Really?

Have you seen the news my good man. The USA is bankrupt.

Mr. Munter, EULEX is illegal. Kosovo independence is illegal. Further, your own orders come from an almost bankrupt nation, who is in the worst financial turmoil since the great depression. Solve the problems in your own backyard first before you stick your nose in others.

It is amazing... I guess in USA exist a school of hipocrisy! The same retoric with the same accent. US will help Serbia!??? They did it for two decades! The result? Kosovo and 78 days of killing civilians, backing albanian criminals... More help? Let's serbia to decide if they will accept.I wish that serbs will have enugh strength to refuse even a single american cent! Do your businessonly with europeans.Courage ,US never wanted a strong Serbia.Their only policy is :DEVIDE AND DOMINATE. Kick em of and never accept their help.

Munter, I suggest you use that $50 million to help your friend in California - Mr Arnold Schwarzenegger. http://www.latimes.com/media/acrobat/2008-10/42718750.pdf

Serbia will do just fine without you and your bankrupt country.

Dragan

pre 15 godina

Like I have always said, whatever Munter says, Serbia should do the exact opposite. That would be best for Serbia's national interests.
As for the measly 50 million dollars in aid he is talking about, most of it is going to anti-Serb NGO's to pay people who effectively spit on Serbia and try to cause internal divisions and instability. Thank God that the US is bankrupt and soon won't be able to prop up these fifth columns any more.
Better days are ahead.
Cheers!!

"The U.S. government program for Serbia is worth over USD 50mn"

1) That means, the glorious program is "worth" several dozen Silicon Valley homes. Very generous help and never abused for blackmail (see Kovacevic case).

2) What does it means "worth"? We have a cute hedgehog like these

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJcDmxhmTDQ

in our garden, hedgehogs are not native to America. I think, that hedgehog is worth over USD 70mn. I propose a generous trade: you give me your USD 50mn, I give you the hedgehog we observed being busy in the garden.

It is not even a fair deal: hedgehogs could be more useful than your USD 50mn "help" because they eat snakes. I know a particular snake which shouldn't be around. If it disappears forever, that would be better for Serbia + Kosovo than the lousy 50mn.

3) (snip) "said that the U.S. would continue to support both Serbia and Kosovo." Supporting Serbia Proper was already discussed. Now about Kosovo. Any number please? How much of that is "pork money", how much of that is bogus, how much of that goes to the population and in what form? How much does the toilet paper cost at Camp Bondsteel?

"The U.S. government program for Serbia is worth over USD 50mn, and Munter believes that foreign investors, who have seen there is political stability in place, will begin investing in the Serbian provinces in ever greater numbers."

Firstly, why should Belgrade help EULEX when it opposes Serbian sovereignty over Kosovo?

Secondly, the US is making such a big deal out of its miserly $50mn. Anyway how typical of the Americsns. Still throwing money around even when they can't afford the $700bn desperately needed by their domestic banks! Still trying to impress others and living the high life when their pockets are really quite empty!
