Wow, I did not read yet anywhere that Serbia has become the "World Advocate" to protect so eager the international laws?
And don't worry, even without ICJ Kosova is being recognised, so Serbia should mind their own business, they are not so powerfull that they can advocate the whole international law, it is a big bite for Serbia.

A few simple facts for you.

1) Kosovo is NOT an independent state, and NEVER will be.
It has not been accepted into ANY international organization.
That is a FACT!

2) Kosovo is currently run by terrorists. Therefore nobody cares about the opinions of the K-albanians.
Serbians, (like all other nations) refuse to negotiate with terrorists.

3) Thou the status of the ICJ is non binding, it will never the less be a legal and moral victory for Serbia.
It will in effect, freeze the already slow and failing recognition process of Kosovo.
It will give countries who are already deciding the issue a clear path to take.
It will show the world that illegal actions will not be tolerated, and cause great embarrass to the US.

ICJ will only be the first step.
kosovo independence is doomed.

Miri: "Serbia would not respect ICJ decision if the outcome is against Serbia's wishes. Haven't Tadic and Jeremic already said that Serbia will never recognize Kosova's independence?..."

You miss the point. Firstly this is not just about Kosovo but about international law. Many countries need reassuring that provinces can't just be annexed on the basis of ethnicity and recognised as states by a few big players in the world.

This is an issue about international law. If Serbia were to win, the UN would continue. If it loses, then there will have to be a rethink about the entire structure of international law and the UN. There could be a complete collapse and change, as with the League of Nations and the emergence of the UN.

If Serbia wins the case at the ICJ, some countries may well revoke recognition, while certainly others will not then recognise. This will create a frozen situation where there could never be international or legal recognition of Kosovo as a state.

Rather than lose more and more funding with no end in sight, even the US may eventually back proper (as opposed to staged predetermined) talks to be opened. Of course Kosovo will not lose its autonomy, but it will ultimately be either partitioned or awarded some sort of special status.

Either way, Serbia will have to be in agreement with the outcome in order for things to move forward. You wait and see, if the US wishes for talks to begin then the Kosovo Albanian leadership will have to agree.

If Serbia did lose, then even if they still refused to recognise Kosovo it would open the way for other countries to recognise the province as a state. However, even if they did get a seat at the UN, it is clear that the entire recognition is based on illegality which will trigger more problems, instability and insecurity as opposed to a solution.

The truth of the matter is:

1. Serbia would not respect ICJ decision if the outcome is against Serbia's wishes. Haven't Tadic and Jeremic already said that Serbia will never recognize Kosova's independence?

2. (Replace Serbia with Kosova in the point number 1)
Kosova would not respect ICJ decision if the outcome is against Kosova's wishes. Haven't Sejdiu and Thaci already said that Kosova will never be part of Serbia again?

So again, we come to where we are today except more wasted time and money and opportunities for both states.

However in the case number 1. Serbia has much more to lose since it is the one that initiated all the "commotion", while in case number 2, Kosova simply says: We don't care!

You should encourage the ICJ initiative, EA. If the court decides that the K_Albanians' declaration is legitimate, then that will be the end of the story, and Serbia will have to acquiesce. How can the initiative then be a waste of time? Large world powers must not have the right to do as they please. Laws must be respected by all. Let's get this resolved once and for all.

"absolutely unacceptable" for Serbia.

The world is really tired with "absolutely unacceptable" Serbia stance. I am trying to figure out the Serbian logic when something is "absolitely unacceptable" for Serbia should be absoutely acceptable for Kosova and other independent countries. What a waste of time that ICJ initiative.
