so why not cancel the visas? It's the only logical thing to do.

THERE WERE NO VISAS SINCE YEARS. Now the Russians wanted to get more tight on controlling Montenegrins traveling to Russia - and demand the ORIGINAL instead the electronic confirmation. Who want, still can go around because there is no passport control between Belarus and Russia and there is no visa regime between Serbia, Crna Gora and Belarus. Once in Belarus, Serbs and Montenegrins can legally travel to Russia since they do not need the visa and the vaucher/invitation is just a bogus cr@p need at the Russian border only.

Since there is a Budapest-Bratislava-Katowice-Minsk-Moscow direct car, not just Beograd-Budapest-Kiev-Moscow (obviously a no-go for Serbs or Montenegrins without real hotel vaucher or invitation), this is zero problem, just cost a bit more.

In any case: this is a complete bogus event, abused for a purpose to sound good for average Montenegrin, Serbian and Russian citizens WHO DO NOT TRAVEL. The ones who travel just swear at an other idiotism and avoid direct Russian/Ukrainian border.

BTW: avoiding the "democratic" Ukraine and go via "despotic Belarus" is a good idea if you have a better laptop or camera equipment anyway. (Get the idea, why). This was suggested by Ukrainian rail enthusiasts. :(

What a better world is now than it used to be! It was a time, for Hungarians or Jugoslavs presenting a simple through ticket to China (sold for $50 equivalent in Hungary) was good enough to get into Soviet Union without any formality or visa. On the other hand, I had a free-issued Jugoslavia-visa for life in my Soviet passport at their Budapest consulate. But that was obviously too simple to live with. So we have all this "improvement" now.

Russian diplomacy at it's best: dropping humanitarian bombs and doing rapine in Kavkaz and dropping BS on Serbia and Montenegro.

Montenegro does not requires visas from Russians since several years. Russians did not require visas from Montenegrins if they present an invitation letter/vaucher copy.

Most likely - like this is with Serbia - the situation got worse. Now Russians will demand THE ORIGINAL of the vaucher or invitation. Very hard to get electronically from sites like www.waytorussia.com

This is not a good news at all.
