It is not some kind of Ethno-recreational park that Serbia needs. We do not need to pretty or clean, anything, up.
We need more shanty-towns, houses made in locations that defines any logic, more wild garbage disposal next to the roads…
So, the next time some (unfortunate) visitor stumbles across this region – let them see the real face of Serbia.
After all, let’s face it : that IS the reason that country looks the way it does – and, Germany (just an example) doesn’t.
But : “ Eh, nismo mi Svabe”!
Of course you are not – and with this approach you will NEVER be.

I would point out that people live in shantytowns because the leadership in Belgrade (before and after 2000) has failed them. People do not throw garbage about willy nilly because they are lousy provincials; they do this because they have not been offered or informed of an alternative.
Often uncompassionate elitists from the west, or uniformed Balkan sycophants, offer advice such as yours but I am reminded that there is no virtue in assigning behaviours to nations (be they Serbs or Germans for that matter) as it is completely unscientific and horribly offensive.
