Even if US military spending would go down, it would have to drop to about 20% of what it is now, and it will still be more than Russia and China combined. That is why I consider the Russian and Chinese armies to be a complete joke compared to NATO. With the US spending $580 million and the EU $310 million on its military and Russia only $40 million and China only $60 million, it is clear who is the real superpower in the world.

"Will be interesting to see how long they can keep this up with their economy going 'belly-up'. "

With all the credit problems, it's still not in reccession beleive it or not. The military spending will go down to $450-$500 billion but now they are two wars and a lot of equipment needs to be replaced fast.

As for Sukhoi beating US planes: No way. They'll improve it :)

The NATO alliance is not in decline, they are only in disagreement about Georgia.

While I highly doubt Russia claimed it would attack Georgia even if it were a part of NATO, indeed NATO would probably not go to war over a useless partner like Georgia even if by some miracle it were a part of NATO, the same would apply if NATO took South Ossetia and Abkhazia back, Russia would also not risk all out war with NATO, that's the truth.

If Serbia were to "side" with Russia and China, it would be surrounded by NATO members, which would be a stupid mistake. While China and Russia are untouchable in their own spheres of influence, so is NATO (which all the Balkans states are aspiring to join). Russia and China would not risk open war with NATO over Serbia, because Russia stands 0.0% chance against the combined strength of the USA, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Poland and China is not someone that really can be considered a Russian ally, because China relies on trade with the West and would not jeapordize this over someone like Russia. The SCO is definitely no counterweight to NATO and would also not consider all out war with us.

Neither side wants all out war with each other and it will not happen (60 years of Cold War proved it), this is why there are some areas which the "sides" feel they are more free to act in.

You sure you're on the correct site? Appear to have mistaken this for an albanian propaganda page.

And seeing as we're talking about the US military, read an interesting story yesterday about a series of simulation runs pitting F-35's against Su-35's. Here are a few choice quotes:

"The F-35 is a bad deal that shows every sign of turning into a disaster,"they said.

"It is too fast to see the tactical targets it is shooting at, too delicate and flammable to withstand ground fire and it lacks the payload and especially the endurance to loiter usefully over US forces for sustained periods as they manoeuvre on the ground."

"The West Australian last week reported the F-35 was comprehensively beaten by the Russian Sukhois in a simulated computer test during war games in Hawaii last month."

Bad news for Australia as it's planning to buy 100 of these turkeys. Other option looked at a couple of years ago was the Eurofighter Typhoon, but our prime minister at the time was a US toadie so elected to make Bush happy - against the judgement of defence experts at the time.

And even worse, our neighbours are looking at buying the Sukhoi's ;(

The China of today is so much more modernized, richer and economically productive than the one which was allied to Albania during its dictator days.

The U.S. buys a lot of Chinese goods these days and U.S. consumers would have problems without them.

Serbia is a big customer of Chinese goods and it helped Serbia during the sanctions.

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come with both Russia and China pushing their sphere's of influence into the Balkans. Serbia should be a more than willing partner now with the Euro/Atlantic alliance in decline.

Russia recently mentioned it would have attacked Georgia even if it has already been in NATO. That would have been a good test to prove that NATO is the organisation of the unwilling.

Both China and Russia are untouchable and the US/EU know that very well.

BTW, this site seems to be overrun by Albanians. We seem to be getting 5 Albanian posts to 1 non-Albanian. I think it's time for B92 to move to Tirana.

They also had a lot of respect for Albania when our dictator approached them in the 1970's. It wasn't a good move. The Chinese will throw some old junk at states to get satellites.

If Serbia thinks that if wars breaks and that China will help them they are sorely mistaken. China nor Russia will not be allowed anywhere near by USA, England, France, Germany, Poland and another 20 or so NATO states.

Look how Russia is surrounded by NATO members. With Albania joining NATO soon, Italy and Albania can close the Adriatic sea as well, cutting off access to all if needed. NATO is pretty smart and with the US Army backed by $700 Billion a year, no Chinese would dare to even touch. Serbia is pariah state, just like Albania was under Hoxha and how North Korea is today.
