Mike:
Fully agree - the less specific, the better.

Also in this vein, people from both sides have commented on the ineffectiveness of 'advisory opinions'issued by the ICJ, because they are considered 'non-binding'.

Personally think Serbia made the correct decision by opting not to go the 'contentious route', instead seeking an advisory opinion through the auspices of the GA as this also 'generalises' Serbia's case coming as it does through the 'filter' of the GA.

Will soon know if those 'frequent-flyer miles' were well spent.

This can't be happening!

The K-Albanian uniqueness, ego, and arrogance will be compromised. They alone are "special".

George "The Decider" Bush told them so.
And also told the EU that the illegal UDI wouldn't affect the rest of the world(meaning Western Europe).

This begins to question the individual integrity, apathy, lack of foresight, and greed of lap dog MP's in European countries and the EU.

Perhaps their citizens will call them on their apathy and disrespect for international law and standards and vote them out(hmm..). I'm sure there are other potential MP candidates that would love the opportunity to take their places - now they have a sturdy platform - if they have the intestinal fortitude to speak up.

The only problem is that the damage is done. The EU countries have cut their own Achilles' Heel. The domino effect is starting.

Once again (Neo)Colonial powers have lit the Balkan and global powder keg fuse - Lessons learned and lessons forgotten.

Germany's drive for access to the Adriatic and the US power structure's maniacal desire for military bases in the Balkans have discarded historical lessons yet again.

The ancient and disproven philosphy of Empires is still being exercised - The US is still practicing this theory of "Expand or Die".

Perhaps one day soon, the Neo Colonialist's will play that old pregnant tune - "The World Turned Upside Down" once more.

Pandora's Box has been opened.

I hope my Greek friends appreciate the references to Greek Lit. and history.

I'm sure the K-Albanians and Albanians will claim this Greek literary history as there own though. Just like they claimed they were first to walk on the Moon and have polar bears romping around Albanian occupied hills and mountains.

Blinded by this ersatz support for their formulated history and their "wag the dog" oppression theories, the K-Albanians will still consider their case for
(in)Dependence and Interdependence as Sui Generis.

I just hope that Serbia has the fortitude to stick with the ideals of Truth, Liberty, and Sovereignty.

Actually Peter, if Serbia really wants to hammer away its position at the UN GA, it should present its case not just as a matter between Serbia and Albanian separatists, but a broader case of separatism in dozens of states throughout the world, including Georgia, Spain, and Moldova. That ought to get a number of fence sitters into their corner. This isn't just an issue particular to Serbia, though the Serbian case is the most egregious. It's a global issue which needs to be globally addressed.

From a serb perspective, the timing on this is pretty good coming as it does right before the UN GA session which starts next week. And reinforces the message sent from Georgia nicely.

Like everyone else, Basques have a very special, unique case. Everyone can see, Barcelona is not Pristina and not Tsinkhvali. Barcelona is Barcelona, Pristina is Pristina, Tsinkhvali is Tsinkhvali. But I have a feeling, if there would be Spanish visas available without limitation, there would be no Pristina and no Tsinkhvali, only a Greater Barcelona.

Hear, hear! Well, I must admit that this came rather sooner than I expected. Honestly speaking, I thought that some more troubled regions will come first, but surprisingly Basques want to speed up their cause. Wonder who is next to follow??? I recommend EU, especially Mr Solana to accept reality and urge Spain to give freedom to the Basques. After all, it is just one more sui generis case with its own unique complexity.

Interesting, indeed. I am looking forward to seeing further development of the situation.
