The Serbs will have to suffer a little longer to fufill their territorial rights with regard to Kosovo but they are better at that than anyone else. As for the alliance with Russia (i'm no friend of the Russian govt past/present/future) and China is a major plus for Serbia. This is an inherited foreign policy practice of the great J.B.Tito that we admired so much in our youth when we studied eastern europe. Although the US and most of the EU are not friends of Serbia, the US in my opinion is going down the gurgler. The Lehman Brothers Investment Bank has just gone into bankruptcy and some serious Wall St analysts are telling investors to sell everything they have in US stocks. This is not good and combined with the US military which is stretched to thin and treasury notes owned by the Chinese its looking really grim. ANd then there is this McCain-Pallin idiocy

The motto of my rant- Serbs stay strong a you always have. K-ALbanians- you bet on the wrong horse.

> do you fear something, my friend? you don´t have to fear Serbia, it´s your country too!

No we don't fear much, since Serbia is NOT our country and we're armed this time (and Bondsteel.)

But thanks for the reassurances, it means a lot, especially given the history.

"If China oposes openly to Kosova's independence then I do not see any reason why Kosova can not recognise Taiwan as independent country. Bear in mind all these circumstances China should abstain when it comes to Kosova.

EA,

If most people in Kosovo think as you do, I can assure you that the more determined will be the Chinese NOT to allow Kosovo into the UN!

Tadić said that he appreciated China’s consistent support to Serbia when it came to the protection and preservation of Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

I am not sure about Tadic's comment regarding China's stance on Kosova. I think I would say that China is for solution that satisfies both parties Serbia and Kosova but that is not possible....I have strong doubts about Tadic's statements. I also would like to say that Albania has got very good relations with China and recognises one China and Kosova has not recognised Taiwan yet as an independent country. If China oposes openly to Kosova's independence then I do not see any reason why Kosova can not recognise Taiwan as independent country. Bear in mind all these circumstances China should abstain when it comes to Kosova.

This is the first visit of a Chinese Army Chief-of-Staff to Serbia in 20 years.

what a fantastic friendship, when you only care for each other, when it is strategically favourable for yourself. Serbia has a lot of such strange friends: China and Russia at first.

in the end, Serbia will have some strategical friends all over the world - while it has ignored the principle of "good neighbourhood".

remember the recent floods catastrophes in Serbia. it did'nt see there any Russian or Chinese citizens or organisations providing aid or giving monetary support. I was there and I only saw European supporters.

since Serbia thinks, Kosovo is more important than good neighbourhood relations - as Serbia does now - Serbia should ask Russia and China next time, when it needs urgently support. then Serbia can exchange the bonus flight miles collected by Jeremic for to transport goods from China and ask Gazprom oligarchs for water, clothes and shoes for flood victims.

ask your key partners then, and don't bother your neighbours only then, when you are in need, Serbia.

This guy goes in Brussels and says: Brussels key alley!

Than goes in Moscow and says: Moscow our historical key alley!

Than goes in China and says Chine is our key alley!

I bet tomorrow he will visit Washngton... ;)
(ben, 12 September 2008 19:04)

Very possible Ben. What are you going to do if that happens?
It's true, Serbia, Russia and China are very tight. Whatever the reason behind this Chinese/Serbian friendship is is irrelevant. I know some of you say that the only reason China is supporting Serbia is because of Tibet etc. but who cares. The important fact is that they ARE supporting Serbia and they have power of veto. That's two permanent members Serbs have on board.

In time Washington will see that they will have to lock horns with too many important countries in order to keep Kosovo. It just may not be worth it.

my dear, you are mistakenly mixed up friendship with blind deference...

Serbia and China have traditonally good relations already from the early yugoslav times... you don´t have to understand that.

but mixing up your own submissiveness ( towards the US-americans ) with international relations between Serbia and China ( two real states ) is just naive.

Serbia has found a new master. If you think any country gives free money than you are ill advised. China is doing to Serbia what it did to Albania in the 20th century.

another key partner?the only reason China sides with Serbia is becouse it does not want to lose its ethnically diverse provinces namely Tibet,Sixuan, inner Mongolia,.....and Tibet was stripped of its independence from the communists. just like Kosovo of its constitutional rights in 1989. so good luck mr Tadic with your new partner.

At last, some good news on cementing ties with reliable, trustworthy and profoundly strong partners.

Now fix up the damage your usual suspects (read US cronies) are doing to Serbian/Russian economic and military ties.

that alone is impressive, but let aside the chinese cultural achievements, I must compliment them on their wise approach towards the serbian issue.

China is a vital partner as they hold one of the five permanent seats in the UN.

China's veto power is important to prevent the legalization of the kosovo UDI.
