I'm glad that officials from Pristina are finally doing the right thing, and representing their new, independent country in an appropriate international forum. it is something that i have been waiting for, said as much. it is late but it is welcome.

on the opposing team is jeremic, who continues to run round the world like the chicken with its head cut off, BUT that doesn't mean he is not making some headway, scaring some govt's out of recognition... so we have to counter that.

as for the ICJ, in theory it is a very important body; in practice, esp. after their joke of a (political) decision regarding genocide and bosnia, it is hard to take them seriously. in actuality, they never said that serbia was not guilty; they ruled that they had not done enough to prevent genocide at srebrenica. it was a pathetic verdict, and the S-nationalists took it as a "victory" which is an ugly joke.

i still believe serbia will lose their pathetic case at ICJ, and after that i hope and trust they will recognize the republic of kosova.

sounds like Kuqi privately knows very well that he is not representing a STATE at all.

but the poor guy, what else should he say in public?

my dear albanian friends, do you still believe to live in a "kosova republjik" :)

wake up, you´re still being duped.

Funny funny, where are these people going to lobby? In the UN car park? I suspect they'll be handing out leaflets with the Albanian flag on one side and a two for one pizza offer on the other.

"I believe that we’re not alone in this fight and that we’ll win,” Kuqi predicted confidently."
That summarises everything nicely.
Kosova independence came as a result of a painful and long process and disagreements, disputes and international mediations. Serbia and Kosova would never agree when it comes to the politica status of Kosova. It was accepted that Status Quo was untenable. Then here we are Kosova being independent with the blessing of the most powerful countries of the world.

How is Russia an empire? Please explain. It is your patron that travels around the world bombing innocent civilians, using willing ethnic minorities to undermine any country that has resources worth taking.

He can't lobby at the general assembly because KosovO is not a country but rather a province. When are the albanians going to wake-up. They won't even beable to enter the EC. They're in an even worse position than before the UDI.

Recognition from the rest of the UN members excluding few remaining empires like Russia will recognize independent Kosovo in due course ,when each country is ready to do so.

Even if any countries are undecided about supporting independence, they are going to logically want an ICJ ruling before they decide.

I respectfully disagree. The ICJ just like any other institution is biased. If a country supports the Kosovar DOI they will recognize, the countries which are ambiguous and unsure are the ones which will pay extra attention to the ICJ.

Firstly, this is about international law and not just Kosovo. It is imperative in the current climate to have a clear reaffirmation of international laws.

Secondly, Kuqi is right when he says that "I don’t think the UN General Assembly is a place where we’ll have the opportunity to lobby for Kosovo independence".

But it is, however, exactly the right place to request the ICJ's ruling on the UDI and its aftermath. This is a crucial element of international law which affects every UN member.
