The current initiative I see so far is stalling and waiting for the ICJ to get an answer if they can push it through the UN assembly. Once they have an answer, if unsatisfactory to Serbia's interests, should then lead to a border negotiation in the event Tadic bows to the ruling in which the partition would be the only solution left to regain some lost territory and protect the parts of Kosovo where Serbs still compose a majority (north of ibar). With regards to the RS, nothing will happen so long as the money keeps coming in and that there is no threat to the RS government's existence in it's current state. Before RS could declare independence the OHR would have had to leave and to give the declaration weight a referendum would need to be held to give it validity unlike the Kosovo udi which had no referendum to my knowledge.

>>"you don't want to have anything with the Serbs except for their territories,"

you mean the territory that was Illyrian, Bulgarian and byzantine before it was Serbs and that was Turkish and now Albanian after it was Serb ? All that time Albanians have lived there.

Only th poeple that live there OR autochtones can say "It's my territory." Slovenes, Croats, Montenegrins, Fyrom-ans, Bosniaks and now Albanians have chosen freedom. No one owns the land as I said, adjust your thinking, you aren't giving anything because you don't own it. If that was that case the Romans would still own it. No more empires. 1912 is getting undone and Russia is staying out.

Albanians aren't begging for land, you didn't beg in 1912 either, so do what you want to do.

Very interesting Mr. Batic & Mr. St. Protic...I wonder, would you give 3/4 of your home to those who asked for shelter and then turned on you??? I would bet that if asked again in this manner, your answers would contradict your current opinion, considering that it would personally concerns both of you.

@Landi

The only reason Serbia might agree to give you some territory is to get rid of you.
First, doesn't matter if Serbia agrees or not they don't control Kosovo anymore.
Second, thanks for sharing with us the general attitude that serbs have towards the albanians.

But why does the attitude bother you now , your were the ones who had parallel institutions in Pristina, you don't want to have anything with the Serbs except for their territories, This is exacly what you wanted you should thank Peggy for saying this not verbally attack her/

"Niall has the best idea I've heard to date. Likewise, Bosnia-Herzegovina should be partitioned between Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro with perhaps a rump Bosniak state remaining."

It will never happen. Rump state? They are 2 million Bosniaks, they need a viable, not rump state.

And, no N Mitrovica without Presheva. Strpce etc is not even in question. If Montengro wants they can talk about the Albanian territories they have

nik

Peggy: "If Serbia chooses to make you a present of part of Kosovo that is entirely up to Serbia as Kosovo is ENTIRELY Serbian. You should be grateful for whatever you get and not place further demands."

Peggy, remember when the terrible Yugoslavian wars started and why? Sesilj was telling the Croats they will get independent Croatia comprising the land... that could be seen from the top of the Zagreb Cathedral!
I can understand your feeling: You grew up with the idea that the whole of Yugoslvavia was yours! And it could have been! Plus the whole of Europe! All you needed was to agree Kosovo to become a fully fledged Yugoslavian Republic, Yugoslavia to turn into a looser confederation and as such to join the EU!
Mitrovica is yours, because Serbs live there, Presevo is yours, because is in Serbia, Srpska i yours because it is peopled by Serbs, All of Vojvodina is yours because.... In every case you use conflicting arguments! I agree that you need to get rid of the Albanians. This is a sensible thing to do. You lost Montenegro, because you did not want to get rid of the Albanians! But make your mind, whether you want to let Mitrovica, or Presevo go.

dave (UK)

pre 15 godina

This may be the only solution if the Serbs and Albanians can not intergrate. The Presevo valley is part of Serbia. But lets say it was agreed that it became Albanian could then the ethnic Greeks have a slice of land in Sourthen Alabania? Or the Macedonians? Just remember K_ALabnians there are many minorities in Albania which could lead to a situation like Kosovo and Serbia. This is why Kosovo independence is so dangerous.

Vlado

pre 15 godina

Niall has the best idea I've heard to date. Likewise, Bosnia-Herzegovina should be partitioned between Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro with perhaps a rump Bosniak state remaining. Then fast track the whole lot of them into some sort of integration with the EU and we're finally finished with all this madness!

It seems you forget that Kosovo is recognized independent state within its administrative borders. It seems you forget that issue of Kosovo division as you present was never matter of discussion in international decision making forums.
As for avoiding Kosovo and negotiating directly with Albania, it seems you forgot once again that Albania regarding Kosovo issue never had role Serbia had regarding Croatia, BiH, Kosovo issues. All Albanians are very proud of it and it is nonsense what you propose now...

"My preference would be:
- Strpce (and adjacent villages in the Zupa Valley that want to join) to Serbia."

Kosovo will build an airport in Strpce for Belgrade officials to fly to. Strpce will also construct customs points around.

So Wim, please take a map.

Peggy,

I can see clearly where you are coming from when you state

"The only reason Serbia might even agree to give you some territory would be so that they will get rid of you"

The FACT IS that the Kosovar Albanians got RID of Serbian rule once and for all and thanks to NATO their future is sealed as independent and sovereign newborn country.

Wim Roffel

My preference would be:
- north of the Ibar to Serbia
- Strpce (and adjacent villages in the Zupa Valley that want to join) to Serbia.
- Presevo to Kosovo
- A judicial reform in Kosovo so that property reform go much faster

Niall O'Doherty

pre 15 godina

Partition should be the last option but it should be as the result of a final compromise.

I said it before, split it 3 ways between Montenegro, Serbia and Albania. Kosovo in its present form just cannot sustain itself as an 'independent state'.

The outcome should be as follows:

Monetenegro - Pec & Decani
Serbia - Mitrovica (all of) and Strpce
Albania - Pristina, Prizren & the rest.
Preshevo to remain in Serbia.

That leaves the holy sites which should come under international supervision with Belgrade and Tirana entering into bilateral agreements.

I think there is a great opportunity for Belgrade to bypass Thaci & co. and taking the initiative by talking to Berisha.

There will be no bargaining on Presevo, I'm afraid. The international community will want that to remain part of Serbia, just as they will want as many Serbs as possible to remain in southern Kosovo, in order to show that both are multi-ethnic and that they have only engaged in a bit of border redefinition (in line with international law), and not full scale ethnic partition.

The deal will be that Serbia gets the north and the rest of Kosovo gets international recognition and a clear path to eventual EU membership.

Denis

I think that is a good idea. I think that would pave the way for all Serbs south of Ibar settle in Serbia, and have Presevo valley back to Kosovo. That would also pave the way for national states, meaning Kosovo joining Albania.

To all the Albanians out there who think that they might be able to bargain with Serbia about partition.
If Serbia chooses to make you a present of part of Kosovo that is entirely up to Serbia as Kosovo is ENTIRELY Serbian. You should be grateful for whatever you get and not place further demands.

The only reason Serbia might even agree to give you some territory would be so that they will get rid of you. What is left in Serbia will not be enough to make waves.

I lived in Albania under communism and we had thousands and thousands of Kosovars who had moved there during the Hoxha regime.
If there was a move of population during the Cold War it was from Kosovo to Albania, not the opposite.

Clarica

I think Serbia should recognize Kosovo as IS at present in order to avoid any possible conflict, then start new negociation with regards to the new border.

Wim Roffel

My preference would be:
- north of the Ibar to Serbia
- Strpce (and adjacent villages in the Zupa Valley that want to join) to Serbia.
- Presevo to Kosovo
- A judicial reform in Kosovo so that property reform go much faster

Niall has the best idea I've heard to date. Likewise, Bosnia-Herzegovina should be partitioned between Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro with perhaps a rump Bosniak state remaining. Then fast track the whole lot of them into some sort of integration with the EU and we're finally finished with all this madness!

Denis

To Wim
"My preference would be:
- Strpce (and adjacent villages in the Zupa Valley that want to join) to Serbia."

Kosovo will build an airport in Strpce for Belgrade officials to fly to. Strpce will also construct customs points around.

So Wim, please take a map.

@Landi

Very interesting Mr. Batic & Mr. St. Protic...I wonder, would you give 3/4 of your home to those who asked for shelter and then turned on you??? I would bet that if asked again in this manner, your answers would contradict your current opinion, considering that it would personally concerns both of you.

Albanians aren't begging for land, you didn't beg in 1912 either, so do what you want to do.

aa

pre 15 godina

The current initiative I see so far is stalling and waiting for the ICJ to get an answer if they can push it through the UN assembly. Once they have an answer, if unsatisfactory to Serbia's interests, should then lead to a border negotiation in the event Tadic bows to the ruling in which the partition would be the only solution left to regain some lost territory and protect the parts of Kosovo where Serbs still compose a majority (north of ibar). With regards to the RS, nothing will happen so long as the money keeps coming in and that there is no threat to the RS government's existence in it's current state. Before RS could declare independence the OHR would have had to leave and to give the declaration weight a referendum would need to be held to give it validity unlike the Kosovo udi which had no referendum to my knowledge.

alban

N Mitrovica should have the same status as Presheva, unless Serbs want to exchange them. Anything else will only makes things worse.

pleurat

pre 15 godina

partition Kosovo by all means but don't forget Presevo valley.the Albanians living there might also like the idea of partition from Serbia.it has to be a just future for all in the Ballkans or no future at all. and that means respecting the borders of the former Yugoslav Administrativ units.changing borders can only be reciprocal for all parties, and for Serbia to partition Kosovo it has to give back Presevo valley.

Jovan

pre 15 godina

there are no presents to make, Mr.Protic. all of it is Serbia, and anyone who is even thinking of the partition of serbian territory, should rather think twice before he puts himself in a pretty bad situation.

prison should be an adequate answer to all those activities aimed to hurt the serbian constitution. a former minister of that branch should be aware of that.

Landi

Peggy, you said: The only reason Serbia might agree to give you some territory is to get rid of you.
First, doesn't matter if Serbia agrees or not they don't control Kosovo anymore.
Second, thanks for sharing with us the general attitude that serbs have towards the albanians.
Then you wrote: You cannot steal someone's property and than say we will give you this bit back if you give us something back.
If you read a history book you will learn that the serbs did the robbing in 1912.
As for the saying that you cannot bargain with something that you don't own I agree with you on that one but you should tell that to those polititians in Belgrade that advocate partitioning of Kosovo.

Peggy

pre 15 godina

To all the Albanians out there who think that they might be able to bargain with Serbia about partition.
If Serbia chooses to make you a present of part of Kosovo that is entirely up to Serbia as Kosovo is ENTIRELY Serbian. You should be grateful for whatever you get and not place further demands.

The only reason Serbia might even agree to give you some territory would be so that they will get rid of you. What is left in Serbia will not be enough to make waves.

You cannot expect to steal someone's property and then say we will give you this bit back but if you give us something else. You cannot bargain with what is not yours.

Partition is the best you can hope for but don't hold your breath.

Clarica

pre 15 godina

I think Serbia should recognize Kosovo as IS at present in order to avoid any possible conflict, then start new negociation with regards to the new border.

Denis

I think that is a good idea. I think that would pave the way for all Serbs south of Ibar settle in Serbia, and have Presevo valley back to Kosovo. That would also pave the way for national states, meaning Kosovo joining Albania.

I totally agree. Partition Kosovo. We don’t need 2 million dependents. Let Uncle Sam and UE support them. It’s like cancer. Some times you have to give up part of your body to save the rest.

albano

pre 15 godina

To late Mr.Protic, everything is done there.
here for example:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Flag_of_Kosovo.svg,
and this can't be changed as some politicans in Serbia dream during the night and speak during the day of that whatthey have dreamed .

EA

pre 15 godina

Dane

To Niall O'Doherty:

It seems you forget that Kosovo is recognized independent state within its administrative borders. It seems you forget that issue of Kosovo division as you present was never matter of discussion in international decision making forums.
As for avoiding Kosovo and negotiating directly with Albania, it seems you forgot once again that Albania regarding Kosovo issue never had role Serbia had regarding Croatia, BiH, Kosovo issues. All Albanians are very proud of it and it is nonsense what you propose now...

Kosovo is independent state recognized by:

23,96% of UN
60% of UNSC
77,78% of EU
80,77% of NATO
63,83% of COE
57,14% of OSCE
100% of G7
87,50% 0f G8

and all peacefull people of good will can only wish prosperious future for Kosovo...

Good luck Kosovo on your own way...

@ usaserb

where is it written that 2 million hoxa-refugees from albania MUST live in south-serbia ? not wanting to live in albania is pretty understandable, really, everyone of the 6 billion people on earth feel that way, but there is no automatism for living in a civilized country .....

Jim

pre 15 godina

There will be no bargaining on Presevo, I'm afraid. The international community will want that to remain part of Serbia, just as they will want as many Serbs as possible to remain in southern Kosovo, in order to show that both are multi-ethnic and that they have only engaged in a bit of border redefinition (in line with international law), and not full scale ethnic partition.

The deal will be that Serbia gets the north and the rest of Kosovo gets international recognition and a clear path to eventual EU membership.

"ooks like serbs are dreaming to much.kosovo borders are very clear and these can not be changed.
(dan, 11 September 2008 20:31)"

dan, my dear, it rather looks like our k-albanian friends are dreaming too much. remember, they dream of being "illyrians", they dream of a illusional "natural" Albania, they dream of being 15 billion in 2020, they even dream to be a STATE!

no, keep kool. there is nothing to divide at all. just let us wait a little, time works for Serbia, and it´s becoming clearer and clearer.

let´s just see what future brings.

To Wim
"My preference would be:
- Strpce (and adjacent villages in the Zupa Valley that want to join) to Serbia."

Kosovo will build an airport in Strpce for Belgrade officials to fly to. Strpce will also construct customs points around.

So Wim, please take a map.

It will never happen. Rump state? They are 2 million Bosniaks, they need a viable, not rump state.

And, no N Mitrovica without Presheva. Strpce etc is not even in question. If Montengro wants they can talk about the Albanian territories they have

@Landi

Very interesting Mr. Batic & Mr. St. Protic...I wonder, would you give 3/4 of your home to those who asked for shelter and then turned on you??? I would bet that if asked again in this manner, your answers would contradict your current opinion, considering that it would personally concerns both of you.
