To be honest anyone could see this happening hence why the US and EU kept making the point this is a one off. I do think it was rather short sighted of the west, they had hit a brick wall with the Kosovo-Serb talks, there solution was Kosovo independence, this was also because SERBIA ELECTED A PRO WESTERN GOVERMENT. The west didnt bank on Russia doing what it did either.

I have read many comments on B92 that the US is the only super power and Russia is weak, well reality check guys Russia is back. Both the US and Russia have enough weapons not just Nukes to destroy the world several times over, The US as well as Russia would be completely destroyed there would be NO winners so forget whos the bigger superpower because it doesnt matter.

This situation will spread as well, we are going to regret Kosovo independence. The other point is the war on terror and Iran, The west wanted to focus on stabilising Iraq and defeat the Taliban, they needed to be seen supporting muslims again one reason for Kosovo independence.

From a UK point some Nationalists in Scotland are using Kosovo as there basis for there independence too.

President Vaclav Klaus, Enough double talk and double face.. Please show your "true color" about kosovo and the crisis in the Caucasus. if you say kosovo was the main reason then why the Czechs betrayed Serbia and recognized kosovo UDI.

If you say Russia was not the villain then why you bowed to the US by hosting the missile defense shield against Russia.

WHY THE CZECHS ARE INCONSISTENT?? DOUBLE TALKERS

I don't know what you are trying to teach me about this world, but you sound a little confused yourself. You are saying that "Chechia" is a democratic country. And that the parliament makes the important decisions. Well since the parliament is elected democratically it means that the government represents the majority of the people. The government supports the missile shield system which means that the people want the missile shield. Why? Because they are afraid of the Russians more than are under pressure from the US. What Klaus is doing is showing his fear towards Russia.

@Mark, you really need to learn a lot from this world. You are or american or Albanian. In a real democratic country like Chechia it is NOT the president who deides. It is the parliament. The president is their for honorary tasks. But especially Havel of course is asked many times to give his view on world topics as he was the one who led the peacfull way to get C and S independent. So, pls don't blame our president, blame our parliament

Is it that hard for you to see what kind of game the Czech president is trying to play? It is true that Washington doesn't care about Prague and all the other cities that you mentioned, but the czech president should care. That is why he is accepting the missile shield system. If the czechs don't want it they can say no and nobody will force them, but they remeber very well 1968 when the russian tanks claimed Prague. " Russia is not the villain" means "Russia please do not invade Czech Republic again"
You would have understood my comments better if B92 haven't deleted half of them.

Oh really Mr. President? If Russia is not the villain why does Czech Republic needs a misile shield then?

The Czech Republic doesn't need a missle shield and didn't ask for one. In an example of typical Bush passive aggressiveness towards Russia we suggested it be put there and in Poland to protect America from the super power that is Iran. Or to flex muscle at the Russians and start a cold war we can't win.

Europe is totally dependant on Russia for it's energy, you can see that they won't move against them by how they handled the georgia situation. So in this cold war we are on our on. No Europe, just us against Russia and China (who we dependon for most of our production.) Maybe Bush should stop trying to scare the simple minded into fearing the big Russian Bear and start worrying about improved relations with the east.

The Czechs need the missile shield to protect them from Iran-----right? Thats what the Bush Regime says----and thats what Condi(the Russia expert) says.

Which planet are you from Mark? Not only Prague, but even Washington screamed themselves hoarse countless times that the shield is to protect against Iranian missiles.

Of course Moscow is not buying this storyline.

No, actually and sadly the Czechs do not understand that they are merely canon fodder for American ambitions to dominate the world. At the end of the day, as long as New York or Washington can be "safe", the White House really don't give a damn what happens to Prague, Brno or other parts of the Czech Republic.

Rusia recognised them to anex for itself. Thats the difference. Propably they will do that. But Rusia dreams bigger than really is. With a population a third of US, develloping economy and underfinanced military in no where near to match the strength of USA. THEY WERE SCARED TO DEATH FROM POSSIBLE SANCTIONS WHICH DID NOT HAPPENED.

This gentleman has a brilliant mind.On the other hand it does not take a rocket scientist to understand that the mafia don in Tbilisi is to blame for Russia's reaction.I have the highest respect for the Czechs who have contributed so much to European culture not to even mention that they have the most beautiful women in Prague.
