Extraction operation of U.S. airmen remembered

500 allied pilots were rescued by the Serbian Chetnik movement which organised their evacuation together with the Allied Powers.

After the war the Communist Partisans were installed as the new rulers of Yugoslavia and then spent the next 50 years lying to the Serbian public about the Chetniks. The Communists told everyone that the Chetniks were “collaborating with the occupying Nazis” and that the committed “atrocities.”

The rescue and evacuation of 500 Allied pilots by General Draza Mihailovic’s Chetniks was but one many acts of heroism of the Chetniks.

The current leaderships of the Democratic Party and its allies in government are all the grandchildren of the Communist Partisans. They will not allow the truth to be told about the Chetniks and General Mihailovic.

All Serbian TV, radio and the printed media is also in the hands of the old Communist elite, or their offspring; and this clearly includes B92. Why else would you report this story with no mention of the Chetniks?

Why did B92 choose to omit that General Dragoljub Mihailovic and the Yugoslav Army was responsible for the evacuation of Allied airmen from Yugoslavia???

Mike Thomas's comments are bang on. Mihailovich's Chetniks represent the one shining light in Serbian history which the very Serbs have suppressed for 60 years. Thomas is right that Communist Serbs continue to supress this amazing patriotic story.

The scrifice of the Serb Chetniks resonates with all freedom-loving Americans and is their story of rescuing hundreds of American airmen is one of the greatest stories from World War II. Yet Tito lies in state in Belgrade while the true Serb hero, Mihailovich remains forgotten. What a shame!

Just little addition. Cetniks and D. Mihailovic saved USA pilots. You did not mentioned that.

Through the undaunted efforts of his troops, many United States airmen were rescued and returned safely to friendly control. General Mihailovich and his forces, although lacking adequate supplies, and fighting under extreme hardships, contributed materially to the Allied cause, and were instrumental in obtaining a final Allied victory." Where were you, your dad, or your Grandfather in 1974 when Autonomy was granted?
What did they say or do?
Why didn't anybody hang Tito for giving away Kosovo???

They are were LIBERATING Serbia from the Nazis as Serbs and others were fighting each other so don't brag about saving them. They were saving you!

The truth is: the real Serbs are direct descendants of Pelazgians. These heroes were serving in Skanderbeu SS and Handschar SS divisions. They tried to liberate Serbia from communists, chetniks, partizans and other scum. Their capital city, Jasenovac was the sunshine of freedom on the dark skies. Unfortunately the entire world did not believe the obvious truth and great injustice happened - until 1999, when humanitarian bombs fell.
