I am so happy about the mess that is being created by the Feb. 17 Declaration; may there be a lot more Ossetias, Abhazias, particularly in places where the US and EU hate them to be, on their home ground.

Abkhazia is much better off if it recognizes Serbia, itself, not Muslim dominated Kosovo and Serbia, in return, recognizes Abkhazia.

Benny

For Russia's leadership, it seemed everything had gone right. In three weeks, the country had invaded Georgia, crushed its military and defied international opinion by recognising the breakaway republics of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Western threats came to nothing. Russia's attack on Georgia went unpunished.

But victory has been undermined by an alarming flight of capital. Analysts estimate that, since the war began on August 8, $19bn (£10.7bn) has been withdrawn from the country.

The Kremlin is also facing other economic problems. They include a rapid drop in the oil price, which has fallen almost 30% from peaks close to $150 a barrel, and a 9.7% increase in inflation since the start of the year.

Analysts believe the war could become a catalyst for a more profound slowdown following at least seven years of unprecedented economic growth.

You know of whom I speak.
Milosevic is history. I'm concerned with today.

Thaci(PM) and the KLA were identified as a a terrorist leader and organization by the US before they got all slobbery and hungry over being able to place an additional base in the Balkans.

The Bush admin. changed their mind in order to place a greater foot hold in the Balkans.

This does not change the fact that Thaci and his cohorts were terrorists - including Sedjui.

"They are 70,000 people there, a village so the 'President' is probably the postman too"

1. I know Kokoiti personally. When elected as a President he already had a prospering business in Moscow with a flat you can only dream of. In his first interview to Georgian RUSTAVI-2 TV he said that the only goal of his presidency was to return our Southern lands back. Like Albanians in Kosovo Georgians are newcomers in South Ossetia. But unlike you they failed to seize the lands that has never belonged to them. Yet your temporary success should not mislead you.

2. Unlike you we know for certain who were our ancestors. Those were a Scythian tribe known as ALANIANS. We are the first nation in Russia to become ORTHODOX CHRISTIANS and so we took part in all wars Russia launched last 200 years. Our special enemy has always been Turks and their back vocals ...

3. There are about 900 000 of Ossetians including some 500 000 in Republica of Northern Ossetia-Alania within Russian Federation. Plus about 100 000 in other Russian regions. Plus about 100 000 in Georgia.Plus abot 150 000 in Turkey ect.

4. Abkhaia is supposed to be formally independent like many European countries are while South Ossetia will soon reunite with Ossetia Mainland.

While this will hardly make world news, it still is a brilliant move by Abkhazia Province. By pushing the idea of mutual recognition of two breakaway regions contesting the sovereignty of a larger state on the pretext of oppression and a desire to be free, the Albanian government in Kosovo Province is now forced to decide between acknowledging their role as a supposed leader of independence of oppressed people, or pleasing their political and financial puppetmasters in Washington and Brussels. Judging from what most analysts think, as well as the immediate scoff on this site by the usual suspects, K Albanians still think they're a "special case". Yet I still find it interesting how any understanding of independence can be reached when the worn out "we're supported by the most powerful countries in the world" argument is always referred to. That's more dependence than independence.

And let's stop using the population amount as an argument against independence too. Some say 70,000 is not enough to qualify as a state when Kosovo has a healthy bloated 2 million.

Liechtenstein, a country three times as small, and ten times as rich as Kosovo will ever be has roughly 35,000 people. Andorra has close to 72,000. Our Albanian colleagues are going to have to do better.

Why would Kosovo recognize these two city states when it hasn't recognized Taiwan, which recognized it as soon as it declared independence.

Furthermore, let's hypothetically say that the "Kosovo precedent" led to the independence of Abkhazia and S. Ossetia - wouldn't it be right then for Russia to recognize Kosovo. Talk about double standards even while using your own arguments.
