This is not the first time Kosovar authorities have closed Gora schools for not following the Kosovo curriculum. problem is that there isn't an approved curriculum in their language. Until now the internationals answered by reopening the schools and B92 didn't even bother to report.
According to the Ahtisaari Plan the international community decides in the case a minority cannot find agreement with the Kosovo government about the curriculum. It it clear that the Gorani need a curriculum that is close enough to the Serb one so that they can enter its higher education system.

This looks like the next step. didn't th euniverities pretty much kick out all the Serbian professors and change the language of instruction there?

VUK, do you think that if you wanted to learn in a English, German, American, even Russian school you could keep your Srbijan school program??? I DON'T THINK SO. Kosovo has laws and regulations that one must follow. Just like in every country around the world.

I am sorry Kicma but the fatal flaw in your logic is more than obvious; "kosova" is not a country; Kosovo and Metohija is a province of Serbia, just because there is a big US base there and a handfull of US controlled states from across the world have recognised gives you no moral or legal legs to stand on in the greater international stage I.e UN or anyother instituation which isn't control by the US.

This story isn't about the Serbs, it's about the Gorani minority. They're the ones that want the Serbian syllabus, because it caters for their culture.

You are confusing a collective bargaining agreement with the political mess in Kosovo. In Kosovo you have two thick headed political entities which no longer can shoot at each other so they use children’s education and medical care to continue their idiotic war. If you believe that political impasse would bar children from getting an education in the US you have not been listening to your Social Studies and History teachers in California very well. The simple problem with Serbs and Albanians is that they are too much alike but neither wants to admit it. As soon as one side has the upper edge they take it out on the other. For the moment we’ve made the Albanians bosses. But it sounds like they are treating the Serbs the same way you and your father were treated when you lived there. I doubt very much this is what we had in mind when we bombed Belgrade on your behalf. Bottom line is both groups have a long way to go to evolve to what both profess being – civilized Europeans.

Nowhere does the article mention the fact that residents of Gora are not able to continue their education in Serbian or other language. The article only emphasizes the need for a contract between the government and instructors. If they want to get paid by the government then they should respect the law in effect.
Jamestown, I live in California and quite frankly, the Hispanic instructors have signed a contract with the state. They follow the laws and the government follows the contracts. That is exactly what the Kosovo government is trying to accomplish. A mutual contract respected by both parties.
I have spent 8 difficult years of elementary school in Kosovo. Hiding my backpack, afraid that cops will stop me and take my father and my teachers to prison. Despite all of that, the government of Kosovo is only trying to agree on-paper, with peoples who 10 years ago denied my education. I have no problem with that, as long as they respect the constitution.

How about if children of the Presheva would insist on following the schoolprogram of the Republic of Kosova would that be Ok for you!?!
The program of Kosova is fair and it is projected to stimulate minorities and it is composed that way that they have enough of the stuff which should satisfy their minority needs. But it is Belgrades hostile policy which is doing everything to split everybody in Kosova which is criating also this kind of propaganda.

Ben,
Your own Kosovo constitution guarantees the rights of minorities. At least that's what was reported here in the media. Here in the US Hispanics have the right to teach their children as they wish. There are even Muslim schools in areas of large Muslim populations. You people know naothing about personal freedom and for that reason have no right to claim independence. Independece is not a license to bash minorities you moron. Most Americans, myself included, were in favor of Kosovo pursiong independence. But it's becoming very clear that the move was far too premature. Blocking medicine deliveries and locking schools is not what we had in mind when we gave you your independece. Just remember he who giveth can also taketh away.

"Only the Serbian curriculum is appropriate and provides real education to the children, and this is the stand of most parents," Abdi said.

It is exactly in this the problem.

Kosova cannot allow foreigners to tale here what is good for her. That's what independece is.

Not even one day passes that we do not see what these Albanians living in the province of Kosovo and Metohija are trying to do; they are trying to destroy the lives of Serbs in Kosovo in every possible way they can. They will happily beat Serbs who are seen on the street they will destroy their religious sites and distrub our dead, they wont even let our young study.

This article among many many others demostrates the true face of Albanians in Kosovo.
