Is it not now perfectly clear with the gravity of the Russia incursion that the world is constantly in an unstable situation of near world conflict? Indeed unfortunately things will get far more acute as the Earth’s natural resources deplete and especially those we depend upon to preserve human life itself.
Therefore in order to prevent an eventual World War 111 where there will be few survivors this time, world politicians have to now seriously consider the formation of a world government that people like Einstein fully subscribed to whilst he was alive.
In this respect one can predict within reasonable certainty now that during the next two generations a global conflict will occur. Using common sense one can see that with the vast depletion of non-renewable natural resources over the next 50-years meeting head-on with between 9.5 billion and 12.5 billion humans, global conflict is more-or-less guaranteed.
The best thing therefore that Obama or McCain can do after one of them is elected the next president of the United States is to start the vital process of creating such an global overseeing institution. Indeed this is the greatest need in this present century, for if not, we will possibly never enter into the next century, as all human life will be extinct. We are therefore now in the century of either the preservation or elimination of the human experience. In this respect if Obama really does believe in his own words and ‘Let me change the world’, he could not find any better way to do this.

EA, The west can not do anything other than to shake their fingers at Russia in this instance. Moscow is not some tiny Belgrade or Pristina that is run by idiots, also big european business is very happy with all the money that is to be made from dealing with Russia, and there will be no sanctions that would hurt Europe and put its oil supplies in jeopardy.

All Europe will do is threaten some sanctions that will not materialize in the hope of doing a bit of damage to the Russian Stock Market.

The Russian market will rebound far faster than the American markets did after the invasion of Iraq.

Bmrusia,

You must be joking about Russia being "very competent" lead wars. I think Russia attack was reckless and it will not go away without punishment. In the long term Russia's action are self-infliction by misusing its strength. Its action is going to lead in a new Cold War and the main to suffer will be Russia. Just wait and see!

These disgraceful 7 represent the hypocrisy at its best. They say that Russia used excessive force against Georgia and no one even mentions, let alone dares to criticize NATO for its excessive force against Serbia for nearly 80 days. Russia has succeeded to end conflicts in less than one week which makes her very competent to lead wars while NATO fails in every mission. The USA/EU and the entire world can only learn something from Russia and would be truly good to offer hand of compromise and friendship to Russia as that kind of gesture would only contribute to world’s stability. It is only sad to witness clueless and incompetent sheep called Europe in these kinds of situations allowing USA to create European policy which, of course only suits USA’s interests.

Until these very same countries revoke Kosovo's so-called independence and go right back to the negotiating table, I'm afraid their words are more than hollow. If you're going to condemn one illegal act of land grab and sovereign recognition outside the bounds of legality, you've got to condemn them all. Otherwise, you're just engaging in cherry picking diplomacy, which is increasingly seen as hypocritical by those of us who follow this kind of stuff enough to give a damn.

I repeat what Peter and I have been asking: when did the world become more insane?

Nothing new here, Kosovo sponsors have no say in this matter until they start respecting Serbia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. Now is the time for them to lead by good example, the ball is squarely in their court.

So what ? Russia cares less and less of what it's enemies think of us. The West has missed it's chance to establish open and friendly relations with Russia. But they never missed a chance to pin and weaken us. If they prefer to have a hostile Russiawe are at their disposal. Good news for the US military plants and the economy in general. Bad news for the Europeans having little modern weapons. Bad news for everybody on this beatiful planet
