to nik:

a democratic Serbian state will know how to pacify those trouble-makers inside its borders - and it´s not two million troublemakers, and you know that. wishful thinking again...

those who are creating trouble will be isolated, by their own poeple. it´s just a question of time, and Serbia has time.

that´s what the criminal pseudo-politicians in the southern serbian province don´t.

as for Mr. Vucic´s statement:

I wouldn´t take it too serious, since it was taken out of the context, he did not mean it seriously of course.

Kostunica, the opposition nationalist anti-EU politician, is playing exactly in the same tune of his Bosnian friend Dodik ( http://www.b92.net/eng/news/region-article.php?yyyy=2008&mm=08&dd=27&nav_id=53026 )

Both of them talk about the “injustice” of the independence of Kosovo, at the same time alleging “justice” for the supposed right of Serbia to annex territories outside Central Serbia and Vojvodina in the independent nation-states of Bosnia and Croatia… and supporting the the Putin drive to destroy Georgia.

In fact Putin, Dodik and Kostunica don’t defend international law at all. They just say anything in favor of law when it suits them. What they are in favor in fact is the reconstruction of Greater Russia and Greater Serbia.

yes Mr Kostunica, the whole planet evolves around serbia and Kosovo. maybe you feel whole world evolves around you too. if you step back for a moment, you will know that noone cares.

The only reason Russia got away with what it did is because it can. Whether right or wrong is irrelevant. this has nothing to do with serbia or kosovo but rather russia vs west but serbs like to pretend that everything evolves around them.

serbia should be careful about preaching redrawing of borders. whilst currently it would gain RS (although i doubt RS would agree to being controlled by Belgrade) serbia itself would now have to undergo some re-drawing too. I wont even start with what would happen to russian federation. it simply wouldnt exist. maybe a precedent is what west wanted to break up russia...

I don't understand the pleasure of some Serbs here: are you happy that Russia ignored the "territorial integrity" of Georgia? Don't you agree that Russia just made a u-turn on its support for the so-called principle of "territorial integrity"?

I guess that for Serbs the only territorial integrity that matters is that of Serbia.

I think a lot of Serbs should by now understand that they have been used as pawns by Russia in order to create problems for Europe.

Please Mr.Tadic listen to the bright idea of the Radicals.Go ahead and recognize S.O. and Abkhazia. And then go to the ICJ and ask for their opinion on Kosovo's independence. Republika Srpska and South Osetia are so similiar.Only that Serbia cannot do what Russia just did.

If a new Cold War breaks out, wouldn;t it be wise for Serbia to at least stau neutral? Now the Borders of the West are shifted on the Black Sea! Serbia may take the unenviable part of the Russian avantguard, but at what price and for what reward? Kosovo? So it could have two million troublemakers in its borders?
Russia can afford isolation. It has enourmous resourses. Serbia must get integrated with its neighbours.
Once they asked gen. Zhukov, why are they waisting so much efforts to keep the beseiged Sevastopol. He answeard: "As long as Sevastopol is our, the Germans are not marching on the Caucases."
That is why some strategists tryied to keep the Balkans burning. Whatever happened, NATO is now in the Caucase. It may stay there for good!

Kostunica continues to trouble the troubled waters. It is silly of those who compare Kosova with South Ossetia. South Ossetia can be compared with Northern Mitrovica if that make sense. With his latest poor judgement he is making the Kosova a great favour towards UN recognition.

All I can say is that Georgia did not recognize Kosovo even though they can not stand Russia and are USA puppets. Georgia has some guts!!!

"Once they do that, we too will start behaving differently"

Are you being serious Mr. Vucic. Do you really think USA cares what Serbia says!

Although I am supporter of the DSS and I have great respect for Mr. Vucic, I have a hard time being so gleeful for Russian policy in Georgia.

By recognizing the breakaway territories Russia may have finally put Nato in its place http://www.tden.ru/ but it also applied a permanent solution to the very temporary problem of Mr. Saakashvili.

Saakashvili in no way represents the interest or spirit of the Good and Orthodox Georgian people who have never questioned Serbia's sovereignty. Their legal claims may have been diminished by a U.S. puppet president, but that is not justification to abbandon the principles of the U.N..

International law should be propped up as the U.N. appears to be on its death bed with the great powers redrawing borders to suit their fancy.

Its times like this when I'm relieved that Kostunica isn't Prime Minister.

As a matter of principle the only position to take is to call the situation in Osetia regrettable.

Any more positive statements on Russian policy runs a severe risk of weakening the position on Kosovo. The obvious point is the right of a nation state, Georgia, to govern its own territory as Serbia advocates upon Kosovo.

One can easily point out the double standards of the US and to say that Russian action is purely a (great power) response for Kosovo etc, but you should not pick sides from a point of principle.

By that measurement both US and Russia actions on Kosovo and Georgia are wrong and defy the concept of sovereignty. It might really impress (and insipre) some countries if Serbia took this position. But the best position the Serbian government can take is to express regret while pointing out US contradictory policy on Kosovo.

Once again, very well said Koštunica. I do not agree with Vučić and believe it is not in Serbia's interest to recognise South Ossetia and Abkhazia at this stage but to await the decision of the ICJ.

However, I beleive that Serbia is overwhelmingly behind Russia on its stance. Samo napred!

And I think it is great precedent. Independence for every one with a democratic vote I say.
