David Macguire,
I would be very interested to find out where you got that piece of "information".
I think it is more an illinformed opinion.

Mike,

Do you work for the State Department? Unless you do, you should not refer yourself as a representative of United States of America.

David MacGuire

pre 15 godina

Most of the European nations which followed the US lead on Kosovo are now looking to the ICJ for their escape, and Serbia's willingness to abide by the ICJ decision on Kosovo has Washington trapped as well. Despite their usual disdain for ICJ decisions the US is going to have to listen this time. In any event, the US election is still a long time away, and neither candidate is going to have the opportunities for mischiefmaking that they enjoyed as Senators.

Illyrian or not we have been here for quite a while, and even Serb historians will admit that (Arkan is not a historian!) As for churches, Serbs burnt more Christians Churches than all other sides combined, as Croats will tell you. At least Kosova apologized and through EU paid to repair yours. Where are our houses and historical buildings?

roberto, are you drunk?

you are not seriously asking the Serbs " to throw off the hateful nationalism and to strive for a positive direction with their neighbours"?

may I remind you of the little fact that it is YOU, my dear, the Albanians who are fueling hatred, since you are stuck to a dangerous myth ( being illyrians ) that leads you to hate your neighbours, which the whole world is watching while you are burning down serbian culturual heritage in serbian kosovo.

as for Biden, he is the no.2, don´t forget that. that means he is there to gain the votes of older, more conservative democrats, that´s something you should have in mind instead of dreaming of a "strong man against Serbia".

once again, if there is someone fueling hate against neighbours, it´s certainly not Serbia, but very obviously the Albanians. the Macedonians, the Greeks and the Coast-Serbs who are called Montenegrins now, know quite well WHO is fueling hate, my dear.

"...Clearing the path for Serbia's future can be considered ONLY positive, and thus I DONT agree with analyst's comments that "Biden bad choice for Serbia". On the contrary Mr. Biden is the BEST choice for Serbia and the Balkans at the moment."
(PRN, 25 August 2008 11:54)

thank you, PRN, this is exactly what i have been saying. these people -- in fact we americans -- are NOT enemies of serbs and serbia -- we want serbia to move forwards, out of the hell of the 90s and into future of mutual cooperation and respect.

and thank you, afrim, for the link. biden really understands and has articulated one of the basic problems -- serbia's lingering sense of victimization and how their politicians and other leaders use it, play it, manipulate with it... no matter what was happening in the 90s, serbia's leaders (and i mean the diaspora leaders here, as well) tried to make a non-stop case that they were the REAL victims. you still see this in these pages, on these postings, and it is sad, it is a true shame.

i ask our serbian colleagues to throw off their hateful nationalism, and strive to work with their neighbors in a positive direction. and that includes recognizing the republic of kosova, recognizing the crimes of the past, and having belgrade make at least an effort to pay reparations to their many victims.

until this happens, we are left stuck and mired in anger, fear and bitterness.

this week is the democratic convention, and soon the election will be upon us. today as i returned to work, we have already made plans to celebrate the morning after.
congratulations to freedom-loving people around the globe! all people.

If Obama is elected, Kosovo will be the last item on his agenda.In his pre-inaguration announcements Obama committed himself to deal with all the pressing domestic issues in order to better the lives of the ordinary Americans.

On foreign policy he committed in withdrawing from
Iraq and re-enforcing NATO in
Afganistan -the graveyard of many foreign armies.

I also think the US relations with Russia and how to deal with Iran will be the top items on his foreign policy.

Finally,i think the analyst on this article exxagerates the importance of Biden as far as Serbia is concerned.Before any new pressure is applied to Serbia
Obama & Biden will have to take into consideration Russia which obviously is not the ransacked country that was in 1999 with a drunkard as a president but a reborn country with increased standing in the world.

Marios Vassiliou

pre 15 godina

Now with the political and strategical changes in Georgia, Nato and the oil crisis is the best chance for Serbia to exploit the Russian power building in the region. The west must get a clear message from Belgrade that if you dont play ball with us then we go and play somewhere else.
But the Russians should not be giving only political support to Serbia but proceed with real moves. Make Serbia an energy centre in Europe,built military bases, invest large sums of money into the economy. This is the only mean to shook up the dogs in the west.
Revenge is something that is eaten cold.
As far for Biden and his Albanian love afffair he reminds me Kissinger, what you expect from the democrats, 1974 Turkish invasion in Cyprus, 1999 Bombing of Yugoslavia. These dudes are bad.There a bunch of cowboys and who trusts them always is left betrayed in the end.

Sergei

pre 15 godina

It is not so simple. Dismemberment of Yugoslavia was a US foreign policy consensus. Republicans generally opposed Clinton’s war in Kosovo for political reasons, but used the precedent in Iraq and uniformly supported Kosovo’s independence. Basically, any foreign policy oriented VP would have held the position. Many here would have preferred a domestic policy oriented VP, but that would have put the spot light on Secretary of State which is were it should be anyway – 99% VP choices in the US are strictly political and have no bearing on policy (although that is not as absolute as it used to be.) The S of S nomination will be much more important, and Holbrook is a danger. Hopefully, Obama will be too averse to such Clintonites and go his own way.
As far as Biden, he does have some Albanian issues, but they should be seen within the context of a Wilsonian perspective on self determination – he was pretty much the only foreign policy leader to champion “autonomy” (read dismemberment) in Iraq. He is generally rather open minded and iconoclastic on such issues. Could he be open to self determination in Bosnia? Overall, I will be surprise if he has much pull.
McCain is a greater thereat – he is still fighting Charley and sees Communism everywhere, but even he would be a monumental improvement over Clinton/Bush.

Interesting to see how many Albaniens read Serbian news.
However, don't get too exited. Serbs know that the only way for you to fight for Kosovo is illegal way by buying US kongress, but Serbs fight for it legal way and although you may think you are winning with your dirty ways, Serbs will win because they will never recognize you imaginary state.

bmrusila

Serbia should never join this violent organisation led by the USA’s aggressive policy and attitude to spread democracy world wide by dropping the bombs. Every week there are hundreds of dead civilians in Afghanistan and Iraq and no one seems to care for that. Europe became true disappointment since turned to be blind follower of the USA’s aggressive journey.

This analyst claims that if Barack Obama wins the November presidential race with Biden as his vice-president, Serbia can expect further conditions and blackmails, that it will especially reflect on the Kosovo issue.

So, what all of this has to do with us. Serbia should not care who runs the USA’s administration. If Albanians have to tremble, Serbia does not have to since there is nothing to blackmails us with any longer. Unless of course this analyst mean that 5 millions$ makes some sort of blackmails. Who ever runs the USA’s administration is same to me since they do not think to stop their aggressive policy worldwide yet which suits us all since the bankruptcy will reach them faster.

If Obama wants some respect and true change in USA’s policy, he should then distance himself from the character such as Biden, Holbrook, Albright …

Nemanja, Connecticut

Look. . .unless Illinois Governor Blagojevich or a handful of other Midwest politicians were picked to run as VP for either party, the vast majority of U.S. politicians - democrat or republican - have a negative opinion of Serbia that is in-line with the current foreign policy of the U.S. government.

Whether it is Biden or Lieberman or some other yahoo bent on furthering U.S. colonialism into Eastern Europe until Russia is completely encircled by U.S. satellite states, little more can be done to put pressure on Serbia to tow the U.S. line.

What more could they possibly do to such a small but proud nation? In the past, they've already:

* isolated Serbia
* put it under sanctions
* bombed it mercilessly
* meddled in its internal affairs
* supported its enemies
* stolen its land

The result? Not only have we survived but we've grown stronger, a little wealthier and more determined than ever to ward off the new colonialists.

So as one poster noted:

"Serbia should recognize Kosovo under Ahtisaari Plan before it is too late!"

I'll simply ask: Too late for what?

In fact, the concern should really be that a resurgent, rich and influential Russia has 10 million belligerent allies in the heart of Europe.

Mike

pre 15 godina

I have a strong feeling that beating up on Serbia was not the main reason Obama chose Biden to be his VP candidate, much to the dismay of our Albanian colleagues here. They really shouldn't expect Washington to fight their comic book battles. The status quo is going to contine whether it's Obama or McCain. No additional pressures are going to be applied. Focus has shifted away from Kosovo towards Russia and Iran in US foreign policy. Kosovo's is Europe's problem, and short of an outright attack on Bondsteel, we've pretty much placed this on the back burner.

Some Serbs, and they know very well who they are, need to quit pretending that Americans and Solana's boys are our friends. Everything they do and say are against Serbia's interests.
The best path for Serbia is to get closer and closer to Russia, who really ARE defending our national interests. They not only talk the talk, they walk the walk.
Just think what would have happened had Croatia tried Operation Storm now instead of in 95? With a strong Russia behind us, we are in a much better situation to defend ourselves. The Serbian army should be prepared to intervene if the albanians attempt what that war criminal Saakashvili attempted in South Ossetia. If Biden has his way, I am sure he will tell his beloved albanians to try it.

Serbia has it's future firmly in it's own hands and the most important thing for the Serbs in the Balkans at the moment is to unite and to act with the morals which have preserved our pride for centuaries, we will never stop fighting for our rights be it in Kosovo and Metohija,Bosnia or Croatia.

Don't believe? Then ask yourselves why the US is so desperate for EULEX to take over. So that they can get those EU suckers to foot most of the bill for propping up Kosovo .... and Nato's upkeep. You get the picture now?

Biden has sponsored over 40 resolutions for Kosovo in the Senate.

Every year, he attends the celebration of the Albanian Flag Day on November 28. McCain as well!

Dear all,

I think this is the triumph for Serbia. Mr. Biden would clear the skies for Serbia (and the region) once and for all. He would make it clear that Kosovo is history, and warn Serbia unless it changes the course and respect human rights, Vojvodina, Sanjak and Presevo valley would follow Kosovo example to gain independence.

Clearing the path for Serbia's future can be considered ONLY positive, and thus I DONT agree with analyst's comments that "Biden bad choice for Serbia". On the contrary Mr. Biden is the BEST choice for Serbia and the Balkans at the moment.

whether Biden or McCain, they both have an anti-Serb bias. So what? Its not as if the US of today is still the financial stud of the 1990s who can throw money away. (Actually they never really had the money but were spending on credit. That's why they are the biggest debtor on earth today)

Don't believe? Then ask yourselves why the US is so desperate for EULEX to take over. So that they can get those EU suckers to foot most of the bill for propping up Kosovo .... and Nato's upkeep. You get the picture now?

"we will never stop fighting for our rights be it in Kosovo and Metohija,Bosnia or Croatia."

given that Serbs are in these regions it's clear that you're advocating another set of wars (is that what 'unite' mean?) The good news is that Serbs are tired of starting and losing wars for no reason.

With regards to Albanians and their underhand tactics in claiming the province of Kosovo and Metohija I say current imperialist goals of the US and the inability of Russia to adverse them hands left you with the current situation. Our time will come and we will shape our own destiny without our hands being tied.

Look. . .unless Illinois Governor Blagojevich or a handful of other Midwest politicians were picked to run as VP for either party, the vast majority of U.S. politicians - democrat or republican - have a negative opinion of Serbia that is in-line with the current foreign policy of the U.S.

* isolated Serbia
* put it under sanctions
* bombed it mercilessly
* meddled in its internal affairs
* supported its enemies
* stolen its land

These dudes are bad.There a bunch of cowboys and who trusts them always is left betrayed in the end.

roberto, are you drunk?

you are not seriously asking the Serbs " to throw off the hateful nationalism and to strive for a positive direction with their neighbours"?

may I remind you of the little fact that it is YOU, my dear, the Albanians who are fueling hatred, since you are stuck to a dangerous myth ( being illyrians ) that leads you to hate your neighbours, which the whole world is watching while you are burning down serbian culturual heritage in serbian kosovo.

as for Biden, he is the no.2, don´t forget that. that means he is there to gain the votes of older, more conservative democrats, that´s something you should have in mind instead of dreaming of a "strong man against Serbia".

once again, if there is someone fueling hate against neighbours, it´s certainly not Serbia, but very obviously the Albanians. the Macedonians, the Greeks and the Coast-Serbs who are called Montenegrins now, know quite well WHO is fueling hate, my dear.

Most of the European nations which followed the US lead on Kosovo are now looking to the ICJ for their escape, and Serbia's willingness to abide by the ICJ decision on Kosovo has Washington trapped as well. Despite their usual disdain for ICJ decisions the US is going to have to listen this time. In any event, the US election is still a long time away, and neither candidate is going to have the opportunities for mischiefmaking that they enjoyed as Senators.

I would be very interested to find out where you got that piece of "information".
I think it is more an illinformed opinion.

Mike,

Do you work for the State Department? Unless you do, you should not refer yourself as a representative of United States of America.
