Actually, I don't see it as a problem at all.

In fact, I'm sure Kosovo and the neighboring countries as a matter of fact, could use an outside perspective of doing things. Few of the Balkan countries have a strong tradition of democracy and that of a strict following/interpretation of the law. A foreign top judge could help in that direction.

If Kosovo's top judge is a foreigner, my preference would be for the judge to come from one of the Nordic countries.

Some of the Serb posters may find this notion amusing, but there's nothing wrong with being pragmatic. If you have a weakness in one area there's nothing wrong with receiving help. When you're playing catch-up, there's no point re-inventing the wheel. Stupid pride never helped anyone.

"Actually I would love to see Kosovo become the 51 state of the USA."

Aren't Albanians always striving for freedom and being masters of their own destiny? Anyway, I can't think of one reason why America would want to make Kosovo their 51st State.

If the plan is for Kosovo to move directly from supervised independence to EU membership this move makes a lot of sense - it won't be necessary to go back and revise its laws to make them EU-compliant, which should speed the accession process. Also, indications that the legal system is being kept up to international standards can only help the economy to expand - good laws, fairly enforced, are one of the best investments a country can make. And in any case, after the EU's experience with Bulgaria and Romania, it's understandable it intends to be more cautious in the future.

Marko, I will say this again, as long as Kosovo is not under Serbija we don't care if Kosovo becomes a part of USA. Actually I would love to see Kosovo become the 51 state of the USA.

Foreigner means he can be serbian citizen or any other country. It is also true that foreigners have the say on everything on Kosova but in Serbia as well, willingly or not. So instead on accepting the truth and move on some still believe that the powerful states of the World would one day reverse the decision to recognize Kosova and say sorry to Serbia. Nevertheless constitutionally I don’t think it is in interests of Kosova citizens that the highest body of justice be directed by an outsider. Sure there need to be balance checks to make sure the justice stay “blind”.

1. as long as the judge is not a Serb /Russian/ Greek etc, he's not really a foreigner

2. Serbs have had autonomy since early 1800's and a state since 1870's (Thanks to Russia) and they aren't much better. In 20 years we'll catch you and Albania will surpass you in 5 years.

The presence of EULEX and other European missions will only accelerate the integration of Kosova in EU and emancipate the Kosova’s society.

Kosova is independent and all these missions are to strengthen the institutions of this state.

Freeman, you will soon discover that the EU has only replaced Belgrade as your masters.

This is not good news for anyone as it will lead to more Albanian activism and possibly violence As pristina becomes Europe's occupied Kandahar.

Of course it will be a foreigner as the foreigners will have the final say on everything. Albanian leaders only serve as chess figures allowed to play politicians only when Uncle Sam gives permission to play that role. Real “independence” , indeed.
