Let's see...Kosovo has made more progress since it declared independence than since 1981 when their basic rights were revoked. But that's OK. Albanians proved to be peaceful and patient people and it paid off.

On the other hand, Serbia has regressed since 1981...in territory, human rights, public opinion, and economy.
Who is living in reality?

bmrusila and srboslav... don't for a second try to compare Kosovo to Palestine. There is no grounds for such comparison. As far as Kosovo's birth rate...don't you worry. They will manage just fine. They certainly will not come to Serbia for help.

=============================
"Serbia has had many offensives so far, including the one when it covered Kosovo in blood, then setting fire to the embassies of the countries that had recognized Kosovo, while the last one has the goal of placing Kosovo and the countries that recognized it in the dock, however, it is all in vain," he believes.
=============================

If Serbia was trying to achieve integration, then the current approach is definitely the wrong way to go about it. It really is a waste of effort that can only come to bite Serbia back.

Also, many Serbian posters here are delusional in their insistence that UN membership is all that meaningful. Again, Taiwan is still doing just fine and Switzerland also did just fine for a long time outside of the UN. Taiwan especially is the case in point what it means to have powerful backers.

With regard to Sejdiu's comment, I'd say, please stop talking like a blogger and starting talking like a diplomat and a statesman. Cheap shots from a president aren't charming...just lame and worse, counterproductive.

"The Greek" :

Your your comments are flawed for a number of reasons:

1)Kosova will eventually become a UN member state. This may take time, but righteousness is on our side, and Kosova will eventually secure a majority in the UN.

2) Russia isn't a part of the World Trade Organization, so how can it prevent Kosova from joining? Membership int the organization requires approval from those that hold the most wealth in the organization (US + EU), and does not require UN membership. Kosova already applied for IMF and World Bank membership, and hopefully by Christmastime they will have a positive answer.

3) Does Palestine (or any other breakaway area) have the support and recognition of 45 countries, including the United States, the EU, and those which make up roughly 70% of global GDP? I don't think so.

Keep doing what you're doing, Fatmir Sejdiu! Stand up to Serbia and show the world that the Republic of Kosova is here to stay!

You have a very warped sense of "RIGHTEOUS"

Sejdiu is right. He has no need to fear Serbia - no sense of threat emanates from Serbia to cause Sejdiu fear, though I suspect the feelings and emotions Sejdiu is trying to explore and define is actually a sense of bubbling and growing despair.
He seems to be reaching for some sense of hope to cover this despair - "Elite army..." and so forth.

Was it the sidewalks of Pristina that were going to be paved with US/EU gold or the streets? Or perhaps just the sky scrapers were going to be gold plated.
Perhaps the toxic waste the EU wants to dump in Pristina will be sealed up in gold?

anyway, keep counting the world gdp, but none of that gdp is rubbing off albanians. all albanians can count on is a donor conference now and again.
why? because kosovo albanians have a pseudo state based on attempted theft of another nation's ancient heartland and that de facto pseudo is economic failure, moral abomination, and illegal under national and international law. former terrorists and current organized crime lords run it in a clan system more like afghanistan than any european society.

A country - in order to be recognised and function properly - needs the recognition of the UN security council - followed by the recognition of the UN assembly.

This simply will never happen, because Russia will not agree. That means that your country will NEVER be a part of the UN, will NEVER be a part the world trade organization (WTO) will NEVER be a member of ANY international organization (like NATO and the EU).

So, sorry to tell you, but the a recognition in ONLY bilateral relations by individual countries is simply... not enough for you! No matter if the countries that recognise you give you passport to visit their lands or open consulates.

Your country is illegal, is a part of Serbia, is against any international law and it has no future. No matter how much you count your illegal existance on the american "pimp". You need more than that to ever be a country...

“Kosovo will have "an elite army", functional police, successful diplomacy and functional government, that will secure economic development”.

-Sejdiu gave me a good laugh, especially when mentioned elite army and diplomacy. Diplomacy to where? Oh, yes applied diplomacy in relations with Albania and back to Kosovo (without northern part) will be very fruitful. The best diplomacy Albanians applied so far was in kissing the hand of Uncle Sam. But such diplomat can be anyone. As for futility of pressure by Serbia that Sejdiu speaks, the only one using pressure in regard to Kosovo is the USA and not Serbia. Serbia is just using the diplomatic measures that any country in the world would use when the territorial integrity is jeopardised. How futile or fruitful these steps are going to be, it is to be seen. Besides, Serbia has all the rights never recognising Kosovo despite of the constant pressure and threats coming from the USA and the EU. Serbia will never recognise Kosovo even if the entire world does so.
