No Art, I mean the vast majority of Americans and the American government. You're not that important to us. We'll keep you propped up, but we're not interested in really making you develop, because that reduces your dependence on us. Sorry to be such a realist, but I speak this not from any Serbian-nationalist or Serb-American point of view. I'm not a Serb. I just know how my government operates, and unless you're Great Britain or Israel, you're expendable to us. We'll throw money at you like Egypt and Georgia, but we'll just prop up your government. You're deluding yourself if you honestly believe either McCain or Obama give that much of a damn about you beyond the photo ops and the handshakes.

Please do not equate the actions of certain elites in Washington with general American sentiment. The vast majority of Americans don't know who you are, where you are, or what you do. Again, this is not a jibe. This is the overall viewpoint of the American people. No doubt some other Americans on this site will vehemently disagree with me, but Americans on this site, including myself, have some interest in the region, and so we're not a reliable sample of the greater population's apathetic and disengaged sentiment.

we're just not that interested in this parastate enough to risk geopolitical capital with more important issues. I expect Serbia to be treated far better under Obama than McCain.
(Mike, 23 August 2008 14:20)

Mike, I take that "we" means Serb-Americans right? Make sure you do not confuse your own agenda with the public at large.
It took the Bush administration 6 years to even acknowledge Kosovo and now his administration has supplied Kosovo with armament and donations against the pseudo-Soviet-Serbian threat in the middle of Europe. Think of how much more help Kosovo will get from actually sympathetic politicians such as McCain/? and Obama/Biden.

Remember, the Democratic Party was actually "the one" party sympathetic to Albanians but Republicans (whom Serbs tried to penetrate with their despicable Islamist propaganda) have also joined the fold, thus making Kosovo a bipartisan issue.

I would stick to Russia if I was you Mike, and since you adore them so much, I wouldn't mind if you moved there.

greetings, people. yes, i am back from the balkans and we had quite a wonderful time, conducted several really interesting interviews this time, incl. with mrs. kelmendi (justice minister of Kosova) in pristina, but i'll discuss these matters another time since i am still jet-lagged.

i would like to correct just a few teeny-tiny misconceptions. first of all, obama will most certainly win this election, and i am most pleased to see biden together with him on the ticket. biden is no stranger to the balkan situation, and is not the least bit naive to the past, specifically in bosnia and kosovo/a. anyone who thinks that the genocide of the 90s will be conveniently forgotten, i am sorry to say, has not a clue, and is surely full of wishful thinking -- their wishful thinking, not mine. we have not forgotten nor do we intend to, whatever our economy is or is not doing.

as for obama/biden's upcoming victory, i base this primarily on 2 key factors: 1-- 8 years of (horrendous) republican governance, in the form of bush and co.; 2-- our economy, as a few anti-americans here love to point out, is rather in the sh-ts. and that is clearly the perception. so, if you remember clinton's savvy slogan, it's the economy, stupid...

also mc cain has shown himself as much less dynamic than obama. at one time i held some respect for him, even as a republican, but i have long since lost it, and he deserves to lose big-time.

so, good news today, indeed.

and yes, i miss my beloved (ex) yugoslavia on a daily basis, but still every single day i am grateful that the phoney-baloney milosevic-dominated yugoslavia of the late 80s is no more, may it never return in my lifetime and beyond!

Georgia's not worth it! _ Biden was right!

Remember Biden called for full scale invasion of Serbia in 1999. Sponsored a bill to arm KLA. Called for full dissolution not only of montengro, kosovo and vojvodina out of remaining Yugoslavia but also partitioning Serbia into numerous cantons, completely cutting out sandjak and other parts, which I hope it comes to into light.
As a croat who has worked for a long time in the US Congress, Albanians are one of the most powerful lobbyists in the US after Jews. Heck, they forced Obama to pick a Washington insider - one of their own Biden. Obama ceded all foreign policy to Biden. Biden was one of the architects of Kosovo independence!

I recall Obama's frequent meeting with Albright and Clark regularly in the recent weeks. Hoolbrook as well. They will be in his administration!
Albanians are very powerful in the United States - a different kind of people with different thinking you encounter in Kosovo or Albania or even in Croatia. When American's helped Croatian Army, Albanians were their closest pals - a true story I recall!

Biden's a long member of Albanian-American and Jewish American Lobby!

Ask US Ambassador to Montenegro, who called him 2 days ago - an angry call from a powerful senator - Joe Biden of 10 Albanians!

Overall, remember over 7 million dollars went to Bush campaigns. Serbsforbush.com...Artemije and Kostunica met Bush and other leaders numerous times.

Don't fool yourselves.

Some of our Albanien frends are so exited about Biden. Don't be. His vision of the world is not black and white like it used to be. Good example is when he went to Georgia. I guess, he told Shakashivilly to shot up with his lying propaganda knowing that US retired generals steared the trouble in Georgia to start unwinable war w/Russia. Good people of Georgia were its victims.

For anybody who would rather have McKaine better think again. That guy as soon as he loses his temper(which is very often-he is trying to controll it now in order to win) he will promote going to war, but remembers it is American chilldren and grandchilldren that will get killed fighting that war. He uses war instead negotiation. Recent example is Georgia.

I know that American politics will alway be blind when it comes to Serbia because of our interest and not justice ofcourse, but still it is better to have Obama in White house then anybody else that was trying to run in this election. I believe that he won't be sticking fingers in everyone's eyes like Bush and some extent Clinton administration did.

Obama had his foreign policy baptism with the pilgrimage-as every US presidential candidate-to the whailing wall in Israel. He looked as a new actor on the same old stage talking about Israel's security requirements and he also made some vague references about Jewish settlements not being helpful
to peace. And the Israelis showed of what they thought of him by announcing more settlements within 24hrs of Obama's departure.
If we look at Obama's chosen foreign policy advisers we see no other than Madeleine Albright-who said that the death of half a million Iraqi children due to UN sanctions was worth it.She is joined by Dennis Ross a member of Aipac, the most powerful Israeli lobby in US.
Therefore,if Obama is elected he will be forced to take sides and we can forsee whose sides he is going to take.
On Iraq, Obama's policy is to gradually withdraw but also to increase US presence in Afganistan-the graveyard of foreign armies.
In conclusion i think Obama & Biden or any other candidate will be a better choice than the discredited Bush administration.I don't think that there is anybody in the world that believes a word of what Bush and his mandra are ushering about.

If the VP choice has any effect on a candidate's electability then Obama just threw his chances into the toilet by picking Biden. The Democratic Party can only win the White House if they have a SOUTHERN Democrat on their ticket.Senator Evan Bayh or even the Virginia Governor would have made much more sense.I hope Obama does not live to regret this nonsensical choice.

Biden is a known plagiarizer. He also had a brain aneurysm in 1988 and almost died. I don't think his health will be too good as he approaches age 70.

Mike

Biden's a smart choice as the man knows his foreign policy. But I wouldn't put much faith in an Obama/Biden ticket coming to the aid of Kosovo.

Washington will probably keep it from completely tanking and/or officially becoming a narco-state, but other than that, we're just not that interested in this parastate enough to risk geopolitical capital with more important issues. I expect Serbia to be treated far better under Obama than McCain.

Should anyone care tuppence who eventually succeeds Bush as president of the world's biggest DEBTOR?

Should the world care so much about a regime that is currently reeling from the folly of its cowboy adventures in Iraq and Afghanistan? So much so that Ms Rice had to hastily conclude an "agreement" on troop withdrawal with her lackeys in Baghdad and 10 French soldiers had to return home from Kabul in coffins. Not to mention blowing a lot of hot air over Georgia but little concrete else, to the utter horror of Bush's lackey president in Tblisi.

Whoever wants to win in November had better start addressing the bread and butter issues of all those Americans who were axed from their jobs and whose homes were foreclosed. There's a limit to how many US banks that foreigners like the Chinese communists (Horrors! The irony of it!) are willing to bail out, even if only for a song.

I dunno if Serbs want to know this, but certainly Obama/Biden, McCain/ *who ever"
it's the worst case scenario.

Both Biden and McCain are honorary members of Albanian-American Caucus in the United States Congress. Long time supporters of Kosovo Independence, Albanian rights in Montengro, South Serbia, Macedonia, Greece and so on!

Folks, this is a great news.

Biden, McCain sponsored a bill together in the Senate to arm KLA in 1999.

The world continues to have a very negative view of Serbian politics. I believe that politics has somewhat exceeded the importance of humanity. I think that it is time for the world to recognise that Serbia and it’s people beyond politics deserve recognition and respect within the world.
Yes, I acknowledge that Serbia has had a hard time in its quest for identity but they are mirroring the same desire of other Balkan nations. It’s time for less discussion and more action to include Serbia as a nation of Europe.

Good choice even though I am registered Republican.
Obama said the othr day that I will choose a running mate that does not hesitate to tell me : " Mr. President you are wrong on this issue or another". Well definetaly Mr. Biden is a stunch suporter of Kosova.
But , anyway Obama has no chance against McCain.
