Brilliant points, I agree with all three of them.

1) I have also questioned by Poland and the Czech Republic are necessary to station the US shield if Iran and North Korea would not be interested in hitting Europe. It's almost like they are trying to aim these against Russian missiles but are not allowed to say so.

2) Condi is by far the worst foreign minister of the USA in their history. No doubt she will be remembered as an abysmal failure. The whole Bush administration will be.

3) One has to just look at Cuba in 1962 to get an idea.

Sergei

"Problem is a weak response emboldens the imperialists, while a strong, measured response (as in Georgia) allows them to spin the Russian “threat” as a cause for NATO expansion and empowerment. What is left but an overwhelming response?"

So basically what you are saying is that Russia should do to Poland what they did to Georgia? Do you realize that an all-out war between Russia and NATO would do to Europe what WW2 did ie. destruction of cities, deaths of millions and millions of refugees? All this over a DEFENSIVE missile shield that cannot possibly hit targets in Russia (unless they launch it in the air over Russia and it runs out of fuel and falls down, then OK)? This was an agreement between two stupid politicians, why do innocent people have to be drawn into such nonsense?

Also true, though I do wish it was another country.

I think it's clear the reason why USA made the agreement with Poland, to be covered from any Russian attack but I cannot blame neither USA nor Poland after what is going on in Georgia. If I was a Polish I would find hard to sleep at night thinking about Russians at the gate like in the 1945.

. Of course, even the “missile shield” itself is very possibly no more than a provocation since it does not and likely never will function.

Iam on the same waves with you on this one.The Georgian
fiasco was aimed at the NATO
countries that resisted US pressure to accept Ukraine and Georgia as members.
The proposed missile shield is
totally unreliable-to say the least. All the trials run so far, have been rigged. The target and its destination are known before the test begins.Only one missile is used at time since the system
hasn't got the capability of
knocking down two or more.
Decoy missiles can cause havoc to the "missile shield".Decoy technologies are very cheap to develop. If
Russia develops those technologies it would force the US to spend trllions of dollars in countermeasures.
A total of $300 billion has
been spent so far and a further $110 billion budgeted
to be spent by 2013.With a full blown economic recession
in US it's very unlikely the
incomimg US administration will stich with the programme.

Just a quick ponder:

My government has been telling the world that these missles in Poland are meant to deter "rogue" states such as Iran.

Now let's think here for a minute:

1. If Iran is ever going to lob missles at anyone, it's going to be Israel. Wouldn't it be better to place these missles then in, oh I don't know, Israel? I mean Iran's sphere of interest is the Middle East. Aside from wanting to "wipe Israel off the map", Iraq is also a potential target, should some mullahs really wish to start a holy war. Place your "missile shield" within the target of threat. Last I looked, The Iranian Guardian Council isn't really that offended by the Black Madonna of Czestochowa.

2. Deliberately irking Russia has seemed to become a standard operating procedure with this current administration. And with Condi, our so-called "Russian expert" not understanding why Russia is upset at this, it really makes me wonder how she got her alleged academic credentials. I mean at this point, I'm convinced this administration has lied about everything under the sun. But if they're going to lie about their reasons for the missile shield in Poland, could they at least lie convincingly, instead of assuming the rest of us are all mentally retarded?

3. I wonder how hawkish our government would get if Russia decided to place missiles in Venezuela. Well, McCain would add Caracas to his hit list of countries to go to war with.

A weak, tepid and Yeltsin like response. A clear, red line must be established; the placement of missiles constituting an act of war. As opposed to knocking down Saakashvili, this would require real guts. If intelligent people like Kissinger were still running US foreign policy, I would be wondering if the Georgian attack was an intentional provocation to facilitate the “missile shield” agreement with Poland, particularly the Patriots the Polaks demand in exchange for hosting the interceptors, and further to position Ukraine for NATO membership. Of course, even the “missile shield” itself is very possibly no more than a provocation since it does not and likely never will function. Problem is a weak response emboldens the imperialists, while a strong, measured response (as in Georgia) allows them to spin the Russian “threat” as a cause for NATO expansion and empowerment. What is left but an overwhelming response?

This decision by our blood brothers is a tragedy.

The only country which has used nuclear weapons in the past is the same US war mongers who pretend to be 'friends' today. Not because it was a life or death struggle for them or their nation but simply to fight a land war in Japan was too difficult.

These madmen plan for all scenarios including where they strike first. There will be a retaliatory smaller reply from Russia in such a scenario and these 'defenses' are a second phase defense system following a first strike. Not for Poland’s defense but the good ol' USSRA, as part of a global umbrella

Polish politicians are fooling themselves if they think that both Russia and Poland are not the losers in this deal.

Unlike the Warsaw pact which guaranteed mutual destruction with these madmen the possibility that Poland and Russia would fare much worse in this new scenario is very real.

Why would your citizens want strategic weapons aimed at them with flight times of less than a minute that ABMs and Patriot systems cannot even begin to defend them from?
The Slavic countries are gone in this scenario. Unprecedented and unbelievable to watch all this evolve as Condi is smiling away.

Europe can look forward to its past life of living under the trigger, Spend big in this race as your economies go broke. “Rogue states” will ride in on horseback into what’s left.

Good night and sleep tight as China begins to watch you from outer space.
