I am Albanian and I am all for Serbia to join the EU. This anger and animosity is nonsense. I agree with Peter, this stupid conflict, and look down should stop. Romania's GDP per Capita is roughly the same that of Serbia and almost that of Albania but it's foreign debt is 3 times that of Serbia and 50 times that of Albania. Just to give you a more realistic view. So stop all this fingerpointing and lets work together for once, for God's sake.

I was not talking economically Mircea, I was saying that Romania, Serbia and Albania are all countries who were part of a different bloc and are now behind old Europe in many ways and are trying to catch up, whether they are in the EU or not. Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and such countries also fall into this category, so I don't know why you took offense, unless you did not understand my point. Only Slovenia has reached the goal we are all trying to, otherwise Romania are not someone who can really look down on Serbia and Albania (OK, maybe Albania) from a great height and tell them they are not ready for the EU. Romania also has a long way to go before it can be classified as a whole class above those two, so does Poland and the whole of CEE.

For Peter Sudyka:

Romania has a much better economic situation than Serbia. It is wrong to put Romania in the same category as Serbia.

As for Albania, it is an OFFENCE to put Romania in the same category as Albania. I never offended Poland so please do not offend Romania.

Mircea: Serbia will not be ready to join the EU in 2014.

What makes you thik that? Serbia is already in many many ways readier to join the EU than Romania was in 2007! After all it was speared from the isolationist communism of Ceausescu, the land was never colectivised. Even now Serbia looks much more "European" than its Eastern EU neighbours. It could easily had been the FIRST Balkan country to join the EU if it was not that stupid nationalism. The normal way of development: Kosovo becomes a Yugoslav Republic, Yugoslavia turns into a loose confederation and joins the EU (Proposed by then Chairman of EU commission) was regected.
As soon as Serbia understands the logic of the EU it will be admited by the fast track.
As for you opinion about the Albanians, parhaps if Romania had been kept within the borders of the Principality of Walachia (before 1861) you would have more sympathy for them.

"Albanians are causing nothing but trouble in the countries of the Western Balkans. I am very happy that there is no large Albanian community in Romania."

Yeah those trouble making Albanians, who want to live as human beings. If no one had taken our land, or treated us badly this would not have happened.

You do have Hungarians though.

Guys, Serbia is a European country and can join the EU if it wants to and if it meets the criteria. Albanians and Romanians have no moral right to tell them they are not ready when their countries are in the same category as them.

Slovakia did not openly defy the EU by accusing it of behaving illegally at innumerable international meetings and then essentially trying to take it before the ICJ.

Slovakia was not happily preparing to act as a Russian Trojan horse at the time of its application. (Although, to be fair, it's possible the idea of Russian participation wouldn't have bothered anyone until very recently.)

Good luck in convincing the EU that Serbia is the new Slovakia.

2014 is way too early. Maybe MK will to prevent another war, but Serbia no way. They will time them so Bosnia and MK get in first and stable countries last. By 2018 even Turkey will be in.

Delioc, the historic agreement is this: Give us Presevo valley and take the North, otherwise the borders stay where they are with no further partitions in dozens and dozens of cantons. Of course you need to stop the Government funded propaganda against Albanians

Mircea

For all Serbs:

Delic is dreaming again! Serbia will not be ready to join the EU in 2014. Serbia will probably be ready only in 2020.
