To Joe:

It is impressing how the times have really changed just in a few years! That having the greatest and most fanatic tools of the ex-Soviet foreign policy (Hungary and Czech Republic) to claim that they are the "NATO contributors" while the oldest and most reliable western and NATO allies like Greece are non-NATO members without contribution!

Probably by saying contribution you mean "saying yes to all the illegal acts without even thinking of it". These are not allies my friend. These are "slaves".

And we reach the point a Hungarian like you, whose country was one of the most fanatic anti-NATO ex soviet tools, whose country was one of the ONLY THREE NARTIONS that fought activally alongside with the Nazi's during WW2 (the Hungarian army fought fanatically with hunderds of thousands of soldiers alongside the Nazi's - especially in the Soviet front) to claim that he is "NATO contributor and "western ally" while the much older NATO members are not!

Could you please tell me with facts what has your Hungary ever offered to NATO and the west in all your history??

1)You were the only nation that fought fanatically with the Nazi's during the WW2 - fighting against the allies.
2)You were one of the most fanatic ex-Soviet "sattelite-states" (a sattelite state you have been in all your history anyway) figthing against the allies again.

And you claim that you are a NATO contributor, while Greece is not?

Greece has been figthing alongside with the western allies in all her modern history, while your country had been fighting AGAINST the allies all your history!

Even after the ww2, Greece fought to the Korean war, having thousands of causalites alongside the americans while your country was one of the most fanatic anti-western states at that time.

So please, decrease your hunger of being "western-ally". Your Hungarian country has been a "puppet-state" all it's history.

First the most fanatic ally of the Nazis during WW2, figthing drastically alongiside with them.
Then, the most fanatic ally of the Soviets during cold war. And now the most fanatic "ally" of the Americans, siding with them even in the most obvious mistakes they do.

Russia has foreign interests just like the US and other countries. She has every right to act on them and defend them. Especially if they are right in front of their front door.

Secondly, lets not fake the facts. Georgia rushed into S. Ossetia first and attacked!! How quickly the pro-US forget what happened not ever 3 weeks ago.

Pavlos,

Even two ultra-nationalist Russians, who like to exaggerate but sometimes correct themselves if somebody present the cold facts to them.
It is already bad enough if somebody's comment is 50-60% polemic and very little fact.
By you seem to beat all records with 100% polemic and zero fact.
I can hardly imagine that it is due to such faulty information in Greece. Or is the Greek media really so one-sided and pro-Russian that it ignores all the facts in Europe?

- The Czech Republic and specially Hungary were the quietest during this latest Russian aggression. The Hungarian government and even far-rightists were so pro-Russian (maybe out of fear to freeze in this coming winter) that I wished they could "enjoy" again the "privilege" of living under the Russian boot to refresh their mind. So much for the "American puppets".
- As for my Hungarian origine where were you Pavlos for the last 2 years??? Everybody knew it and I said it repeatedly. But beside this fact I am first of all an American, who left Hungary as a teenager, never worked there and never shared their mentality (grown out of communism) that the state should take care of every citizen from cradle to grave.
Many still have this mentality, don't work hard, go to early retirement and wonder why they have so little money to live on.
- As for the Western Europeans you really misrepresent the reality. I lived and studied in France and Germany and I am checking several French and German sites several times on a daily basis. I am amazed by the big awakening. The Russians really shot themselves into the foot and even worse. Thank to their brutality and unproportional actions they showd clearly that they did not change in the last 50 years. The Europeans noticed this and realized that there is no way to avoid a new Cold War. The Greeks think of course differently but everybody knows that they don't really belong to NATO and they are nothing but Russia's sixth column within it. Completly unreliable and without any contribution.

All the anti-russian comments by the same people every time.

The hungarian "Joe" who presents himself as a "mighty american" and he is even avoiding to mention his true origins, attacking Russia in a similar way again.

Well, Russia and Europe have more in common and they are not going to put themselves in ANY kind of cold war with Russia.

No matter if the american leadership with the new "puppet-states" like Hungary or Chech Republic wish to escalate the tension between Russia and Europe, simply this will not happen.

All the big European states wish to establish a stable relationship with Russia, and they are not going to be dragged to a cold war by the americans or their new "puppet-states" in the EU like Chech Republic or Hungary, which nobody really cares what they say or do.

Russia was right in that conflict. She protected her citizens and her peace-keeping force that were brutally attacked, in a disputed area (S. Ossetia has been living with autonomy almost continuously - she was never a georgian part trully - only considered so by some...). Russia never started the war - like Gerogia did, she never killed 2000 innocent civilians - like Georgia did, and she never totally destroyed a capital city - like Georgia did.

The Europeans know those things clearly. And they wish to establish a good relationship with Russia.

The problem is that the EU and the NATO should consider VERY carefully, if they will keep accepting ex-eastern countries in the EU that they only care how to cause trouble to Russia - even if they have to include Europe in that.

Georgia is the most recent example of that. And the behaviour of the ex-eastern european states like Hungary, Poland or Chech Republic who are the first to escalate tensions with Russia are also an example.

If the Americans with their ex-eastern european "puppets" want a cold war, they can have it. But they should never expect that a european country will follow them. Not even take their blind animosity against Russia seriously I would say...

Joe says.."Your joy is maybe premature."

There is no expression of joy in my comment. I made a statement based on the information I provided in the attachment.

There is no joy in the thought that human beings lack heat in the winter and nowhere did I imply that.

That you think the possibility of this as you say,"…very cold days and nights in the coming years. But that will be very beneficial" is a perverse thought.

Cold War my foot!
You can try to use the Russia/Georgia issue for fodder to promote ill will between nations and continue to repeat your negative rants, but I believe the Europeans are too smart to fall for this.

I know no one who lives in Russia therefore I have no friends there. Once again, you are incorrect.

Roger7,

I am not surprised that you as a Serbian American you take great joy at Europe's energy dependence. Your joy is maybe premature. I was reading on many European sites, including French that the EU is multiplying steps to devenir less dependant of the unreliable energy supplies of your friends. All the latest actions of your friends are wake up calls for the Europeans. It is fort possible that they will have very cold days and nights in the coming years. But that will be very beneficial. They will do something about their energy dependency and your dear friends will lose the Cold War for a second time.

I am surprised by the quick change of mind of the Germans in face of the Russian aggression and bullying of a small neighbor. The following comment of a German on the site of "Spiegel" is pretty representative of the general feeling:

Rough translation: "The new Cold War exists already for some time. It is the result of the victory marsh of the KGB-FSB in Russia in the last years. The West will win this new Cold War just like it won the first. Russia is not in the situation to withstand a new protracted confrontation with the West, she will collapse through it.
Perhaps the new direction of events is preferable because I lost any believe that Russia can be reformed. As an empire Russia will be increasingly autoritative and will remain a menace to the world".

Apparently the EU's energy alternative is in question.

As the article states..."The Russo-Georgian conflict is the latest in a series of setbacks for Europe's planned Nabucco pipeline – its best hope of weaning itself off Gazprom, which set off alarm bells by cutting crucial gas supplies to the continent in the winters of 2006 and 2008."

The French and Germans were considered in the EU until now as great appeasers in face of aggressive Russia. Finally they start to wake up. They start to realize that they are in presence of a very dangereus imperialistic country, which did not change in the last 50 years. Bye, bye dreams of a democratic Russia, who can live peacefully with her democratic neighbors without bullying, treatening them.
The ideas of John McCain - no WTO or G8 membership as starting steps - are taken over by more and more politicians. A much more poverful Russia lost the first Cold War wersus the West. Russia will loose this new one too.

Has Russia found an alternative, more profitable market for selling its crude oil and gas than EU this winter? After all that's all Russia has!!
