Zastava sold weapons to Azerbaijan, not to Georgia, when workers of Zastava protested. You can check the news from that period.

Don't know if he told this to BBC because of a bad knowledge or something else?

The problem is that Serbs have hug the bear, and now the bear is going to bite them, and afterwards, will let them go.

From the World Policy Institute...

The last seven times the United States has sent troops into conflict in substantial numbers including Iraq and Afghanistan; they faced adversaries with weapons or military technology "Made in the USA."

Between 1992 and 2003, the United States sold $177.5 billion in arms to foreign nations of which 18 of the 25 countries were involved in active conflicts and governed by undemocratic regimes with poor human rights records. In 2003 alone, the Pentagon and State Department delivered or licensed the delivery of $5.7 billion in weaponry to countries that can ill afford advanced weaponry—nations in the developing world saddled with debt and struggling with poverty.

The U.S. State Department’s Human Rights Report deemed these governments to be undemocratic while another $97.4 million worth of weapons went to governments who were categorized as having "poor" human rights records in the same report.

The United States transfers more weapons and military services than any other country in the world.

This mention of the weapons along with the "thank you for understanding Russia's position regarding Georgia" comment by the Russian ambassador in Belgrade is a not-so-subtle little reminder that Russia "owns" you. In other words, you're expected to tow the Russian line or...

I love seeing how the Albanians are so concerned with Serbian/Russian relations. So concerned or so worried??

Great... including Serbia and Greece in their 'blacklist' is only damaging the relationship with some of the best russian 'friends'... and there are people that think that Putin is a great dirigent.

Wait one minute here . . .

Why *wouldn't* Serbia be supporting Georgia. The Georgian position *is* the Serbian position. So what if Russia, for whatever reason, supported Serbia. Russia is now defending the principle that was used to take Kosovo away.

This business is ridiculous. If Serbia supports Russia's position here then they have to support Kosovo independence.

When international policies become so blatantly self-serving and where principle are sacrificed for expedience, expect disasters.

Serbia, shame for not supporting your own principles.

Saying that Serbia sold weapons to Georgia, by the Russian MoD, is something serious, because there are some numbers in the weapons that tell about the series and year of production...

"
. Russian intelligence in Geoprgia is so strong that we know the news there long before they reach their idiot. So if such a deal would take place Russia would have warned any Serbian government long ago/ None of the Serbian government in the decade could do such things. So the best thing Serbs can do now is to follow better the destination points of such supplies.

OK, here comes the warning and surely Russian intellegence are not stupid.

Big deal...war, like politics, is dirty. Someone from the Serbian defense ministry should question the sale of arms by Russia to Croatia in the early 90s. Russia has long stopped being the "protectorate" of Serbia. It is no longer, "..from Russia with love."

I don't think those infantry weapons can influence our relations with Serbia because :

1. Kalashnikovs ,grenade launchers ect. are usually sold on the black market where the seller may have no idea of the final destination of the weapons.

2. When it came to selling tanks and other heavy wepons Serbia refused to and a Serbian Minister whose name escaped my memory sayd very good words for a Russian ear " Serbia would sooner go bankrupt than it will sell weapons to Russia's enemies."

3. Russian intelligence in Geoprgia is so strong that we know the news there long before they reach their idiot. Albanians will protect you from the Russians

Serbia better hope that NATO protects them :-) This may be the pretext to dump Serbian support and to take those two areas in Georgia, Russia was not at war with Georgia.

Obviously this is the fault of the workers at the factory, all the russian/ossetian blood spilled because of them.

Serbia, wake up Russia will bully you just as the west has done, there can be no reliance on either sides.

Zastava won a contract a while ago from an american company (as reported here on b92) to produce bullets for it as american bullet companies cannot cope with the demands of US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

It could be quite possible that bullets and arms bought by the US were then transferred by the US to Georgia.

As with Israel, the US has a very strong hand in which companies could sell weapons to the Ukraine. They certainly would have been aware of all arms shipments, such as SA-5 SAMs and T-72 tanks by the Ukraine to Georgia.

It's all part of politics. The United States advised the Georgian troops to use Serbian ammo to show the Russians that maybe supporting Serbia is a bad idea. Those bullets could have been stock piled for decades. I believe the Russian minister of defense asked Serbia a year or so ago not to sell Georgia arms.

If this is true is see nothing wrong with this, business knows no boundaries except that Russia might get angry with Serbia and review it’s support for Serbia. If this happens than Serbian posters in here are going to blame NATO and US for this

I agree with your idea, plus there were no intl restrictions on weapons procurement towards Georgia, so if they have the cash ...

I think Glock is austrian made though.
