What exactly does international law have anything to do with how countries grant citizenship?

In this planet it is individual countries that decide who gets to become a naturalized citizen of that country, not the UN.

If that sounds bizarre to you, look at your friend Russia, who gave Russian citizenship to South Ossetians and Abkhazians..even though they're Georgian citizens.

Get it now?

"Even if most countries do not recognize Kosovo passports, so what? What is to stop Albania from granting dual citizenship to all Kosovar Albanians in the future?"

interesting, some really do not get it, it seems.

the answer is: international law.

Nice, Tadic.

Now, go to Moscow and say to President Medvedev or maybe Premier Putin: “we defend the territorial integrity of Georgia”.

Maybe it's just me, but I have the impression that the more Serbia pushes for creating obstacles for Kosovo, the more remote its chances of ever getting Kosovo back become (if that's even possible anymore). After all how do you expect to negotiate anything with another party when all you do is throw more wood to the fire?

If Serbia's strategy is to "coerce" Kosovo into starting talks again, it simply won't work. The main countries that sponsored Kosovo's independence will not turn back no matter what the ICJ comes up with. The IMF is already considering Kosovo's application...and it probably will allow Kosovo as a member. It is also very unlikely that the EU heavyweights will allow Serbia to hold Kosovo hostage in the EU accession process.

Even if most countries do not recognize Kosovo passports, so what? What is to stop Albania from granting dual citizenship to all Kosovar Albanians in the future?

While UN membership does open some doors, it is certainly not a vital factor for the success of a country. Some foreign companies have already set up shop in Kosovo and probably more will once the legal climate improves. So much for the "isolation" argument...

I find it ironic that Tadic and Jeremic will criss-cross the globe, expend that much energy, time, money, and become diplomatically indebted to all sorts of countries, solid and shady, yet, when it comes to dealing with the party that they actually need to negotiate with...they're fresh out of creativity.

Good luck!

"As far as UN Assembly in Septmeber, Don't you worry becasue Kosova President sejdiu and FM Hyseni will attend the same session. I am wondering if you guys will walk out as usual.
(Ahmet Isufi, 13 August 2008 17:43)"

well, since they will be guests, they can of course attend the UN assembly in that function. but they will know their place, as followers of Mr. Zannier.

I can see that "top" news that Tadic is travelling around world to persuade some leaders to object the undisputable FACT that Kosova is independent and nothing can stop it.

Reading most of your posts make me think that your hatery for the serbs is without borders. With such a representative attitude I have no doubts that your so call "coutry" will never succeed!

Ahmet Isufi - Messrs Tadic and Jeremic have never walked out when the provincial Kosovan government had a right to be at any event in a certain capacity.

As for the UN Assembly, I am sure that there will be no problem with members of the Kosovo govt. being there in their capacity as an interested party. As long as the UN sticks to its resolution and stays neutral on the issue of independence.

Not bad really, he's talking the talk, but lets wait and see if any real progress will come about.

That Chinese visit would be a boon. He would not come to Serbia for nothing, unless it meant that some investment was coming also. It won't be easy to avoid making comment about Kosovo in Serbia though. 'If the Chinese largely support Serbia's stand, is the Chinese government prepared to assert its authority on the issue?'

Ahmet you sound a bit keen to change the subject, are you feeling nervous about something?

I have yet to hear a coment on Georgian crises from Mr. Tadic and Jeremic. I wonder what is their stand on this issue. As far as UN Assembly in Septmeber, Don't you worry becasue Kosova President sejdiu and FM Hyseni will attend the same session. I am wondering if you guys will walk out as usual.
