Interesting - are the Europeans beginning to realize that Russia is planning to use Serbia as a Trojan horse? The only real power the West has over Russia is economic - keeping it out of the World Trade Organization, for example. But the Russians have been planning to use Serbian companies to evade such restrictions, according to what I've read here about the NIS project. After Russia's moves against Georgia, hurrying Serbia into the EU may no longer seem like a priority. The problems it can cause, surrounded by other EU/Nato countries and applicants, is minor compared to what letting it into the EU together with Russia might mean.

Louie,
Is it so difficult for you to allow for a moment the comparison between Milosevic in Kosovo an Sjaakasvili in South Ossetië? Both wanted to restore their national order in a secessionist Province, where a majority population was armed by foreign powers.
Sjakaasvili unfortunately seems to have killed much more more people than Milosevic at the time. In my view both Milosevic and Sjaakasvili were in their right to exercise sovereign power in their territory, but I am an old fashioned fan of classic international right. Nato in 1999 did'nt respect that, so Putin says: why should I now? I am conducting a humanitarian war to protect poor Ossetians and he was. Of course he doesnt really mean it he is trying to get closer to the gaz-pipelines. But is does prove how short sighted and silly the Kosovo-policies were. Just because the Albanians funded the democratic campaign through Holbrooke & Clark the west is
in problems. May be Mc Cain should take his chances blaming holbrooke & Clark(in the Obama service now) for this misery. Had the west respected Serbia's souvereignty(not a crazy idea because Serbia was an allied partner in two world Wars!) we could now defend Georgia much better. Kouchner did'nt come because he must be thinking things over. His partizanships of humanitarian wars proved a disaster.

I don't understand why people compare Georgia's case with Serbia!
In Serbia's case intervened NATO and in Georgia's case Russia attacked them!
If Albania attacked Serbia to save their brothers in Kosovo, then you could say it is the same scenario!!!
Otherwise I would like all this nonsense on Georgia to stop as ordinary people are suffering, after all they are Russians!
Do you remember Staljin,I think he was from Georgia!!!

Perhaps kouchner and rehn are worried they might be arrested to answer for war crimes againt serbia or to answer for missing Serbs in kosovo.

It would be hard to dissuade Belgrade from seeing an opinion from ICJ when Georgia is wanting to do the same thing.

I suppose he wants to be sure of what Georgia is going to do before he puts his foot in it.
They have to get their story straight before any more threats are directed at Belgrade.

Excellent news!
Keep Alia Izetbegovic sympathisers OUT of Serbia.

What does he recon will happen? He'll come to Serbia and tell Serbs not to shame Europe in fron of the world, and Serbia will then give up all the work and effort and obay.

He is sort of saying - well we violated your country, the international law, bombed your civlians and run a constant smear camaign against whole Serbian population for well over a decade and now we're coming over to threaten and blackmail because you dared challange that.

He should be refused entry to Serbia.

How interesting, are you trying to cover up something stinky. Most probably you will officially warn Serbia against negative consequences should they dare to ask a legal advice! You are a good example of politicians that the world do not need.
