“Their aim was to remove Georgia's West- and NATO-oriented democtatically elected government by military means and intimidate the Ukraine. (Joe, 12 August 2008 15:41)”

Joe you’re joking right? Or are you that uninformed on the situation? Saakashvili came to power in a coup that toppled Shevardnadze, you know Shevardnadze? Gorbachev’s good buddy? How is that democratic? Or is it automatically democratic simply because he has the support of the West? Do you even know what the word Democracy means?

"The sixth is the beginning of international discussions on the future status of South Ossetia and Abkhazia and on ways to ensure their security," he added.

The sixth principle is very important my friends. Note that Medvedev and all other Russian officials are bringing up Kosovo at every opportunity, to highlight the crimes and hypocrisy of the US, NATO and the EU towards Serbs.
The Russians have check-mated the Americans. The sixth principle will force all countries to re-examine their views on Kosovo. If the international community decides to throw international law into the garbage bin and recognize Kosovo, then they will have to recognize the Mitrovica pocket, Republika Srpska, as well as Abkhazia and South Ossetia. This is just the beginning, as many other separatist movements all over the world will rise up and demand the same.
The Russians are playing this very smart, and are making cowboy George and company look like complete buffoons, and myopic weaklings.
Well done Russia, and keep up the good work!!

So what has changed / will change?

Saakashvili's attempt to imitate 'Operation Storm' has backfired badly & we will no doubt see his 'resignation' shortly after the georgians start picking themselves up out of the rubble & start looking for someone to blame.

Those images most of us saw of him being protected by his security detail will only 'add fuel' to the bonfire.

NATO & US aspirations for Georgia are like-wise history - both from the point of view of the west, & also the georgians - who have just seen for themselves how empty are the promises of support of the US & NATO.

Russia has shown in no uncertain terms that their words are anything but when it comes to their own back-yard.

The Ukraine will be taking notes.

Georgia's pro-western stance will evaporate.

The provinces of South Ossetia & Abkhazia will become independent in all else but name - no doubt with significant numbers of russian troops present to 'keep the peace'.

Russia will withdraw from 'Georgia proper' - they've made their point & the speculation that has been 'spread around' recently about the 'russian thirst for conquest' is just that - speculation.

The pace of recognition's for the 'pseudo-state' in Kosovo will be adversely affected - only a simpleton/propagandist would deny the parallel's between Kosovo & South Ossetia/Abkhazia.

And the proposed case in the ICJ against the legality of the K-albanian UDI will be positively affected - There is nothing like having your nose rubbed in something to make one sit up & take notice of that something.

Joe:
Go on believing in the 'influence' George W Bush has in Georgia's region. Is on a par with McCains chances of becoming your next president.

But wouldn't go around lauding him in Tbilisi if I were you - might end up at the same bonfire.

Luigi, go and do something useful and run to Bari and start counting the number of Albanians coming to live in your neck of the woods with their shiny new passports.

You may have to hire the Boss soon as your legendary brave soldiers might all be sleeping at the vinyards as usual.

I hope you are right and that there is also a Saakashvilli cookout at the end.

Nick or whatever your Albo name is and the rest of the Albo posters. Do you hear the thunder and boom from behind the mountains. They will be shortly accompanied by the winds of change.

Following Bushs strong-worded warning and a united EU front in face of Russia's aggression Putin and his figure-head Medvedev started to realize that they went to far. Their aim was to remove Georgia's West- and NATO-oriented democtatically elected government by military means and intimidate the Ukraine. They showd their real face discrediting all the apologists in Western countries.
But even the very liberal New York Times pointed out that "no redistribution of Europe", no Yalta anymore.

Bravo Mr. Medvedev, by invading Georgia you have shown the world how useless the strategy of appeasing Russia really is.

Those of us that have lived under the tyrannical rule of Russia or its satellites (like Serbia) know fully well that all you are interested in is bullying people around and showing off.

For better understanding the situation follow the events in Kodori region where the Abkhasians have surrounded the most danderous force i.e. Internal Ministry Special Brigade. Last year this brigade has dived demonstrators in Tbilisi in their own blood. This brigade destroyal will mean the end of Saakashvili because it is the Sonderkommand he is keeping Georgia in fear ! If the Abkhasians succeed there will be a new coup d'etat they will again call a revolution.

Also 1-st Army Brigade is surrounded close to Zugdidi. It is also trained by the US so it will also be destroyed in a couple of days.

Next comes the batallion which has been delievered from Iraq. I hope it is already attacked from the air to let them feel the difference between hunting helpless Iraqies and being hunted yourself.

Geoergians unlike the Ossetians has never been good warriors and the city of Tshinval was almost free even before the 58-th Army troops has entered the town the third morning.

Georgia has united all the nations of Nothern Caucasus and noe thousands of volunteers from Chechnia , Dagestan , Kabarda , Adigea and other regions are now fighting Georgians.

The panic in Gori town of Georgia started when the reatreating Georgian troops has told the civillians of the attrocities they had done in Ossetia. They all convinced local Georgian civillians to run. So now there are about 200 000 Georgian refugees from the two frontline regions.
In any case any new Georgian government will prosecute him and the US will have a very bad choice either to give him up or to loose Georgia forever. By now within Georgian elites there are no pro-Russian forces like Toma.

OSSETIANS are as good warriors as their ALANIAN (same as SARMATIAN ) ancestors and in the begining of the massacre the Georgians created 12 times superiority over the OSSETIANS which helped them enter Tshinvaly. But they failed to control more that 50 % of the town during just one day when they cried "VICTORY" and made fotos in front of the remaining tanks.
