Duro your feelings for Kostunica are very touching but personalising the 'success' of the Kosovo policy to one man, however much you like him, isn't true.

And its another thing entirely if you think that the policy on Kosovo has been a success. As far as I can see international troops are still there and most Serbs have not returned to their homes.

For the record I am never assured of the competancy of DS, its just in comparison with SRS / DSS they always appear more competant.

Still I admire your uncanny ability to predict the future. Unlike you I have no idea if DSS will remain an unsuccesful party or if it will remove the cult of personality around their leader and becoming a more democratic party.

Still, I know that some of their voters like the cult of personality thing. You know, relic from communism and all that?

marko I don't know if you aware but in Serbia it is the government that makes all the decisions, whilst the presidency is largely a ceremonial role.

It is the DSS party that has spent most years in government in Serbia since 2000. Try to spin it how you like but that is a fact.

You mention that DS is a large party. I wish the same could be said for DSS. A small party which constantly seeks the office of Prime Minister for its vain and pompous leader. Its quite obvious which party exists to be in power. Its also quite obvious which party and their supporters have the most sour grapes about being two time losers at the ballot box.

What bores me marko is the endless political speeches of parties that use all opportunities to market themselves. All bluster and hot air. What also bores me is debating with those who have plenty of opinions but little factual information.

I still can't believe that you thought government and parliament were the same thing. And even if you know the difference it begs belief that you are so out of touch with such simple events such as noticing that ministers are giving statements these days, not on holiday.

Bagnon,

The fact that you neglect is that the D.S. has held the Presidency and dominated parliamentary coalitions since October 2000. In Serbia, the D.S. is large and in charge and it has been since October 2000, to deny this and to try to level all the blame on former coalition partners is much less than the truth.

Despite how the functions of democracy bore you, one of the main functions of parliament is so that the government and opposition may discuss and debate the policies of the Government.

I assure you if Dr. Djindjic was alive, he would not cower behind a SPS speaker to avoid a parliamentary debate on the implementation of Hague Policy.

Alas, Your D.S. party has had no focus or vision since Dr. Djindjic was murdered. Gone are its idealists and patriots. The D.S. exists to remain in power.

And look what DSS has achieved bganon, nearly a decade long delay in Kosovo's deceleration of dependence on the EU/US because of Kostunica's knowledge of the law being a professor of law.

It was DSS that forced the US and EU to break international law because they didn't allow themselves to be fooled in sighing some scrap of paper promising some fantastic offering of good faith in easing up on Kosovo which I am sure DS would have done because of their constant whoring to the EU god. It was however your DS that held majority of ministries in the last government one that was rightfully criticized for its lack of work wasn't it?

Don't fool yourself in believing it was the decisive work of DS that lead to the capture of Karadzic that process takes months of work and surveillance not some over the weekend job.

DS has achieved nothing and will not achieve anything.

Marko sorry but I can't spoonfeed you when you are quite capable of finding out yourself. If you want to say that DSS have not been in power more than any other party in Serbia since 2000 then good luck to you, but it isn't true. The chief responsiblity for the state of the country is DSS who have been in government longer. After this government the pendulum will turn and you will be right about DS bearing most responsiblity. With any luck we will have some positive results before then.

Parliament and Government are not the same thing. Parliament is on holiday. The government took a joint holiday of 7 days last week. As far as I know they are doing their jobs, you might have noticed that yourself.

Oh yeah, I'm also so sorry to miss the opportunity of endless debate in the wake of the Karadzic arrest! Poor Serbian people having to miss those educational political speeches that go on for hours.

You are hoping that Serbia does well over the next few years aren't you? It would be sad to think that you put personal feelings above the interests of people of this country.

Thank you for refreshing my memory on so many points, however I require further clarification.

You stated that the DS has not been in power for the last 4 or 5 years. Please remind me who the Serbian Heads of State have been since October of 2000.

Now that you have explained to me that the Government of Serbia can not be expected to do anything about the various catastrophes that the nation is facing, because they are on holidays, I want to say how glad I am.

When our people are in a crisis, they need a parliament that is well rested.

I also think it nice that the speaker suspended parliament a day before the public learned that Karadzic had been abducted; that way pesky debates could be avoided and the Coalition for a European Serbia could start a long summer season of Cevap cook-outs.

As far as the Coalition for a European Belgrade is concerned, they may well reach a deal before the deadline, but the fact that they have not yet reached a deal despite taking so much time and having willing partners is indicative of their effectiveness. Perhaps they also require a nap and a sun tan.

""If these projects are not carried out, we’ll call to account those who made the promises, and we’ll demand new elections,” underlined Ilić. "

Unless you stop trying to undermine EU /US in Kosova there will be no 'building' as they control the funds Serbia needs, underlined Dashnori i Satam :-)

Serbs must choose: prosperity or war (and still lose.) By electing Tadic they choose EU and that means eventually recognizing Kosovo

It's been awhile but finally Ilic is talking some sense.

Perhaps I shouldn't reply on what Marco said, but it's another typical comment often read here. Typical tactics of the radicals also, first they block the work of the parlement, then they complain that this goverment, who just had been installed is doing nothing. When the parlement speaker is coming up with some plans to make the parlement work faster, and to prevent parties (all parties) from blocking it's work, the Radicals again scream fire and murder. I never thought I said this but Ilic is right, no-one is waiting for more protests.

Its not surprising that DS have done nothing in 8 years when in the last 4-5 years, except for a period of 10 months (led again by PM Kostunica), DS was not even in power! On the contrary DSS were in power all this time so your question should be posed to them.

There is no surge of activity in parliament because parliament is actually on holiday. Some basic knowledge of the subject is necessary marko.

As for Belgrade government, wait and see. If you think DS won't form a local government at Belgrade level with partners you are a brave man. Besides I don't suppose you will have heard of the supposed sixth principal. The much lauded sixth priniple was a similarly childish argument to the one DS used. DSS claimed that according to this principle the Prime Minister could not be from the same party as the President of the country.

Ever heard of this principle in the rest of the world? No, I thought not.

"The government has not even begun its work yet, so there is nothing to oppose"

That is entirely the point, the DS have done nothing in eight years. Their coalition does not share any goals or visions and will accomplish nothing. The Socialist speaker is promising tough new measures to curb the opposition (because the Socialists never did like opposition) yet there is no push or surge of activity in parliament. Nothing.
Another example of this DS Nothing was seen when we remember the DS G17+ assertion that the formation of a Belgrade Government is tied to the success of the Federal Government; yet they have not formed a coalition with willing partners.
Every backwater in KLA terrorist controlled Kosovo has a mayor, and the snake has a functioning parliament, a united foreign policy and clear political objectives while the experts of western finance and democracy in Belgrade move at the speed of Krkobabic in a triathlon.

Well to be clear these protests are (were) pretty pointless.

I'm afraid what it really is all about a tiny percentage of the electorate that cannot accept that they lost elections (assisted by the hooligan element). They need to get over their defeat and realise that in a democracy this is not the way to go.

At least when Milosevic was in power protests were held for legitimate reasons - ie stolen elections etc. The government has not even begun its work yet, so there is nothing to oppose.
