"5-6 years is realistic, but not an agreement on Kosovo status. It is already settled.
(rekon, 8 August 2008 19:14)"

rekon, nothing is settled, unless Serbia agrees.

I don´t think 5-6 years to be realistic, but sooner or later it will be on the table again.

let´s just give the criminals time to prove that they are not capable of creating some kind of well-being in the albanian community of serbian kosovo.

that will come, only a question of time.

"Wishful thinking is those who blindly rant international law by not knowing an ounce about it and those who think Serbia will somehow regain Kosovo by waiting."

Art,my dear, I am afraid I must tell you that I know the law quite well, I´ve studied it for several years until graduation...

so, that "ounce" is probably just more than you can handle... ;)

and keep kool, Serbia won´t just sit there and wait...

Kosova is not in need of any deal with Serbia, we gave you plenty of chances but you wanted to play the "INAT" game, now plz mind your own business.

Mr. Ivanovic is in the rank of Dindic and Cedomir Jovanovic. An agreement would be reached last year if Ivanovic was a member of the serbian delegation in Wienna. He speaks a perfect albanian, has no prejudices etc. However he is still a politician and now as an official he must be carefull not to upset his bosses. I have often seen him in Prishtina having coffe by himself. 5-6 years is realistic, but not an agreement on Kosovo status. It is already settled.

International law: Sovereign states have the exclusive right to recognize other states as sovereign, while taking into account their well defined borders and governments.

Custom is considered as the prime source of international law thus something is accepted as international law if it is consistently practiced, be it regionally or globally.

Point being, Kosovo's neighborhood has overwhelmingly recognized it as an independent state. Wishful thinking is those who blindly rant international law by not knowing an ounce about it and those who think Serbia will somehow regain Kosovo by waiting.

maybe you are a radical, I don´t know it, but if you do not change your way of thinking, don´t worry, others will. and you will be marginalized within your own community.

as for the other albanian who talked about Albanians being treated as equals - hey buddy, that´s what is meant with substantial autonomy as a citizen of Serbia.

but as the article is reminding us - that will take time.

but in the end, there is still international law...

Agreement between Serbs and Albanians WILL NOT be reached NOT EVEN for another 5 to 6 centuries (...snip...) So now the GAME IS OVER, once and for all. (....snip....) Wishfull thinking (....snip....)

Those were tough words. I know, many of you are tough boys, but within a mere single century Kosovo-Albanians may greet Serbs with the words somewhat like "你好" = "Ni Hao". Hope, you like jasmine rice, time get used to it's taste. I know the reality after living in the States for a while.

Anyway, "zai dian!" for now.

Another 5 to 6 years? That's being quite optimistic. But Ivanovic is right. Even though neither Belgrade nor Pristina is likely to budge from their positions now, no one in Belgrade is going to have any dealings with any KLA warlord-turned-MP. In 5-6 years we'll probably see the lines of administration settle along the borders of ethnic sectors in Kosovo. I personally would like to see northern Kosovo consolidate into a viable working entity, able enough to work with and speak on behalf of the other Serb enclaves, particularly Novo Brdo and Strpce. But in reality, it probably won't be until a new generation of Serbs and Albanians take the reigns of political administration before any definitive settlement is finally reached.

I disagree, however a new generation of rational leaders will have to take place. Serbs and Albanians work and live together in many places, while they may joke of have some disagreements, it isn't war. Most Serbs know that they cannot rule Albanians and if 95% were Serb in a province they would separate.

Some extreme element in Albanian side or Serb Radicals will be ignored by the new leaders. Serbs can come and visit their shrines as often as they want and when people get along no one will touch them. Of course that means treating Albanians as equals

Albanians reached the agreement with the international community and Serbs didn't want to play a constructuve role in it. So now the GAME IS OVER, once and for all.

Wishfull thinking are those thoughts that maybe one day things may change in Serbia's favour vis-a-vis Kosovo.

This is one of the most sensible statements on Kosovo I have read from either side in a long time. The fact of the matter is that the current situation is transitional. Belgrade and Pristina are going to have to sit down and discuss things at some point. Everyone recognises this. In fact, last year Albert Rohan stated that he too believed that a deal would probably emerge in about 5-6 years, and that this would in all likelihood be based on some form of partition. This now seems to be increasingly seen as the logical compromise. If Albanians in Kosovo can't live under Serb rule, the they should also recognise that the Serbs in Kosovo can't live under theirs. Better to let each side go its own way and then get on with the future.

You'd be surprised at how fast Albania can come up with ridiculous amounts of money for any project.

Just look at the costly highway that's making Kosovo a coastal country by 2009.

PS. Serbia's approval is not needed for a Kosovo resolution. Russia's approval is needed, and it's not like Russia hasn't pulled the plug on you before.

Jovan

any "deal" with taci, still a simple criminal, would be scandalous.

so, as I have expected... we will have to wait for a certain time, until those radicals leave and reason prevails.

until that time, UNSC 1244 is there to protect serbian territorial integrity.

so now our dear albanian kids can boast about "no negotiations" and "never again" and similar bla bla...but reality is different, and what is even better WILL BE different.

let the children write down their wishful thinking... they will face reality sooner or later, anyway.
