For a paltry 50 mil, the US thinks it is still the almighty sugar daddy of the world! That's not even a drop in the bucket compared to what they spent in the current Olympics. Pathetic!

This meagre sum would be better spent bailing out those US banks and those millions of homeless and jobless Americans buffetted by the mortgage crisis .... it might just reverse the Republicans' flagging fortunes in the coming elections!

Let's read again:

"American aid to Serbia is to be spent in programs designed to help the government and civil sector, and promote democracy. Part of the money will also go to the support of the state institutions."

So this is the same money Charles Schumer is talking about. It should promote... what? Oddly, Sen. Schumer and Sen. Clinton do not want that democracy to be promoted.

I think, I was wrong. Indeed, Kovačević case is very serious and this money should not be sent. I fully support Sen. Schumer and Sen. Clinton initiative this time. The opposite is true: as frustrating and "autistic" the entire Serbian government was, the way it resigned, than later had the elections, the over-all quality of possible choices (compared with guys like Mike Huckabee) and the outcome... make me think, Serbia should allocate $50mn for an aid to America to promote democracy and help fund the civil sector.

For instance, Serbia can help to decide: is "waterboarding" constitutional or not.
