BKK, BKK, BKK,

You seem unable to distinguish between fiction and reality.

Many states, large or small, centralise their consular services for efficiency reasons. As the link (graciously supplied by Ataman) to the Canadian embassy in Vienna clearly shows the citizens of some ten countries, including Kosovo, need to apply for visas there. Does this demean their existence? Of course not. The same goes for the US embassy in Scopje.

Kosovo is rapidly building its institutions. It is one thing to debate how effective these institutions are as they are still in their infancy, but is quite another to negate their existence by name calling or out of spite. A more mature debate would be beneficial to you as well.

Agim, agim, agim...

Lets summarize what Ataman said, and what B92 reported, shall we -

Day 1 - Kosovo issues new 'passports'.

Day 2 - UNMIK stops issuing passports.

Day 3 - Macedonia refuses to accept fake passports.

Day 4 - We look at the offical website of American embassy in Pristina -

''The U.S. Embassy Skopje is designated as the venue for U.S. nonimmigrant visa services to citizens of Kosovo.''

These are observations and research. Ataman or myself haven't made any of this up - that IS the situation, weather you like it or not.

Don't be angry at Serbs because your passport is virtually impossible to use. You made your bed, now you have to lay in it.
Not even your biggest friends and most trusted protectors trust you enough to have an office which will issue a measly travel visa to K Albanians in your so called 'country'.

@ # 29

Ataman, my friend...here are some answers to your concerns on # 29.....

1.25 out of the rest of Europe doesn't have their “own money”......They all use Euro...the very common currency in Europe and even in your Country... By the way, Kosovo has the central bank.
2.Kosovo has TMK that will be transformed to FSK and if you think that Kosovo has no border control, try to pass it!!!!!!
3.Thaci is PM, Ceku is ex- PM and they are and will be free ALWAYS.....
4.Kosovo can afford to have their documents printed in Leipzig or elswhere....One country of Shengen zone boycotts the passport....so what??????
5.The biggest US base, build outside of US is: Guantamo, second one is build in Iraq and third one is CBS (Camp Bondsteel).....YOu are right that US did pay rent to Serbia for CBS but they quit paying on February, 17 when Kosovo declared its Independence.
Kosovo is recognized by 43 countries....it is true that for the moment we have to go to Macedonia for visas (except German, Greek and Swiss) but we can go to Macedonia using a KOSOVO PASSPORT.

To ATAMAN;
Kosova is a nation. Thus, its citizens are Kosovars. They may be of different race, religion, ethnicity but they are first Kosovars and then whatever. Kosova declared independence based on the will of its own people, at least 95% of them. Montenegro declared independence based on a 51.6% majority for it. Even the naming of it unilateral is insulting, in the case of Kosova. Actually, Kosova's declaration approval by its population has the highest majority in the region.

Ataman

pre 15 godina

@John Taylor:

If some people believe, shiny new pieces of paper printed in Germany are a sign of their "(in)dependence", maybe let them believe. Celebrating is always better than rioting. Otherwise "have all what an independent state should have" is a joke, right?

1) They have money printed outside and no own national bank.
2) They have no own armed forces or border control.
3) They have high-ranking officials (thaci, ceku) who are protected by UNMIK from Interpol warrant.
4) Their travel documents are printed in Leipzig, Germany. At least one country of Schengen zone boycott these travel documents
5) The biggest military base of USA outside of USA is Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo. AFAIK, the legal basis of it's existence is an agreement between USA and Serbia, USA would pay a rent to Serbian government for the next 100 years. So the biggest supported of independent Kosovo pays the rent for Kosovo territory to Serbia. A bizarre situation, isn't it?

All this is called "diplomatic disaster". Given, the same leaders gjarpëri/snake/thaci are of Marxist-Leninist background I wonder, when they (in Kosovo) will clean-up the political life. This is abnormal. There is no other place in Europe where militant marxist-leninists rule:

http://tinyurl.com/5c3c73

I wonder, did 'snake' ever distantiate himself from his former ideology or not. But probably... once a militant Marxist-Leninist, always a terrorist.

@BKK:

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.

According the link:

http://tinyurl.com/5fudut

"The U.S. Embassy Skopje is designated as the venue for U.S. nonimmigrant visa services to citizens of Kosovo."

For Canada also correct:

http://tinyurl.com/63ju9n

@Roberto:

Creating new borders just makes more trouble, more expensive transport, more difficulties for the people and economy. So far the only good news is, that if Serbia will implement that Internet wire-tap insanity à la "Homeland Security", Kosovars could jump in and ruin these idiotic plans. Coincidently, these plans smell like coming from you-know-where, so they (Kosovars) would act against the "new order".

Kosovo being multicultural? Fine, but so far it does not work (what are the International forces doing around Decani monastery?) and why were some Western governments so busy to destroy the multicultural Yugo a decade or two ago?

Indeed, rethoric... cutting and slicing Balkans into pieces never worked towards the progress in last 1000 years, won't work now either. You support separatism which on Balkan does not accelerate anything. It slows down the process you want to see. Even worse: you support separatism of forces led by communists (see my link) again democratic, pro-Western Serbia. Doing so, you undermine precisely what you want to see: the Western orientation of Serbia. You help Serbian nationalists, fascists but also bizarre and unholy alliance of mafiosi, wahabbis, terrorists with communist background on the other side.

I think that Serbs are underestimating the albanians' resolve in this matter. Of course albanians knew they will have a lot of problems and their new state will be in a limbo for a while, and that will cause a great deal of inconvenience. But apparently albanians DON'T CARE. From my understanding they are willing to pay any price and go through any hardship as long as they are not under serbian rule. And now that it seems they are so close to their century old goal, there is no hardship that will break their will for an independent state.

BKK

pre 15 godina

Actually Florin,

From Pristina embassy, you cannot get a visa to anywhere. You cannot even get a visitor's visa for USA from Pristina's US embassy - so I am curious how this is all going to work for you ''free travelers''?

For Canada you will have to go to Vienna to ask for a visa, but Austrian Foreign Ministry website does not list Kosovo as a country on their website and neither does Italian Foreign Ministry, therefore I am somewhat confused as to how you'd go about using your ''passport''?

Jevic

pre 15 godina

Hi louie!! your comment is noted. but to tell you frankly it will not convince the serbian people at all. let see what the international court (ICJ)will say on september. Quitting kosovo is never an option!! kosovo is Serbia!!

" Gezuar to all the citizens of Kosova for the new passports. Be proud of the new state, your state. Each and everyone of you deserves to be proud: Freedom has no price!"
(Adrian Gashi)

thank you, adrian, and all of my pro-independence colleagues. whether you spell it with an O or an A, republic of kosovo/a is a reality, and this is a great move forward, symbolically and actually. that talk of mickey mouse doesn't phase me, not before and not now. actually i like disney -- classic disney, not esp. these days, but anyway, better cartoons than war and hate...

even though it may seem a paradox, i do believe that these "new" borders will help eventually foster a more international spirit for the people of the balkans. but all of these countries of ex-yu need to grow as multi-cultural democracies, with successful economies and cooperation both inside and btwn countries. it will not happen with rhetoric but with slow and steady work, if people choose a cooperative direction. and your politicians must lead in a positive way, not in the bad old ways.

Ataman

pre 15 godina

@Burim: did you ever think, why a Hungarian-American guy would be an "anti-kosovar" Besides, what "anti-kosovar" means? There are Serbs, Turks, Gorani, what-not in Kosovo. Kosovar is not equal Albanian. Your comment proves: these five stars in your flag is just a farce.

But some posters here are to a such degree anti-Serb, they put their nose into Vojvodina and try to make the relationship between Hungarians and Serbs worse. It's not appreciated. Isn't it funny: getting Serbian free company shares is kosher. Wishing Serbia break-up further and killing the value of your shares is also kosher. This is bizarre.

@Florin: AFAIK, Russia, China and Cyprus do not have any issues with that travel document. As insignificant as it seems, Slovakia explicitly requires either UNMIK or Serbian passports. Slovakia is part of Schengen zone. One country of the Schengen zone barring these travel documents means a trouble in the entire Schengen. We do not know how will develop, but it's not a success yet.

@Arben1: You just did prove, there were/are Serbs who helped you during Milosevic regn, thanks. I am sceptical, "USA" as it is helped YOU. There was other agenda. Milosevic reign was a reign of fascists. I have no doubt, there was a large scale abuse of human rights. Many K-Albanians were victims. Some were criminals. Currently these criminals are running Kosovo. Kosovo needs to clean-up it's act. I see huge progress in Serbia Proper, Kosovo is still a boiling of nationalist craze.

@Gezim: I am not part of the Albanian-Serb conflict and there is nothing I can "capitulate". AFAIK, Kosova eshtë Serbia, so Serbs don't need to wait to claim, where Kosovo belongs to. Since there are 2 million of Albanians in Kosovo, to do it by force would be a fascist act. Looking at commetns on B92 and other news Serbs have the fascist regime behind of them, but not the Kosovo-Albanians.
Cheney being a parasite is indeed, primarily my problem: I am paying taxes, not you. It also likely your problem indirectly to worry because these American "friends" of Hungary and Czechoslovakia did drop both like a hot cake in 1956 and 1968. Other "western" powers had also terrific record: Hong Kong and Macau was literally fed to communists and well, the entire "civilized" world did abandon Taiwan.

As you wrote:
"Thanks, but no thanks. We Albanians have won our joy without you!"

I fully agree with the first one. "Thanks, but no thanks". My government was spreading your lands with depleted Uranium and killed many innocent Albanians. The second is wrong:
number one, you did not win the war and so far, the peace is not won either.
number two: indirectly, I did participate in the NATO actions of 1999 because guess who is paying the taxes?
number three: I am citizen of two NATO countries, but not Serbia.

@Joe:

1) "smile" just confused you with "Freedom". I don't think, "Freedom" lives in Vojvodina either. Unless he proves, I am wrong.

2) Only in communism was expected, all citizens would support certain politic agendas of ruling elite and applaud things they otherwise believe are comical, abnormal or immoral. USA is not a communist country. I paid all my taxes in USA from the day#1 like everyone else and never received any aid. I want to see my taxes being put to the good cause. From that perspective IMO so far Kosovo was a complete failure.

What is interesting and it maybe answers your question. I barely have/had connection to immigrant communities. We neither asked, nor received any help. Some first-generation immigrants may indeed feel, my views are "unpatriotic". They rarely give that impression to many similar-minded American peers, I would be "a US citizen on paper only". I allow critics because I want to see things running much better than they are. I feel, I am more American than probably the majority of the immigrants and I don't feel having a need to reinforce my loyalty on every occasion by supporting things which seem to be "politically correct".

Matthew had some good points. I do agree with him mostly, but not on everything.

Kosovo is the newest country in the World!!!
To own a Kosovan Passport will be an honour that so many of you don't understand!!!
We don't have nothing against Serbia,personally I want them to be Top of Europe!
Same time I want them to give us a chance to manage our lives without their help!
I want them to think about their future and support Serbs in Kosovo indirectly!
Kosovan Serbs are citizens of Kosovo,they will be treated equally like any other nation in Kosovo!
I can feel a very positive energy coming from new Government of Serbia,after all the most important thing for Serbia now is to make sure the future is bright,the future for Serbia is in Europe!!!

Ataman,

Few observations:
- If US citizens live/work in a foreign country they enjoy a tax free exclusion (something like 60,000 to 80,000 dollars depending the cost of living in that country). SoSec is most likely different and you need it for accumulated credit.
- Cost of Camp Bondsteel: drop in the bucket compared to other costs. In Germany we payed considerable billions (supporting rich communities there by providing work to the locals), we payed most of the stationing costs when rich Germany should have payed much, much more.
- and those "neo-cons" of yours...I think you overrate their infuence. You seem to see them everywhere like communists suspected "imperialist saboteurs" at every corner.
- our legal system: I hope you read Matthew's excellent comment yesterday.
- your comments always give the impression that you are a US citizen on paper only, your hart is somewhere else. This seems to be harsh but this is the impression people get. We all have the right to be critical with our elected officials, we all do it rebublicans and democrates but in your case it seems to go far beyond normal criticism (without giving alternative solutions). I can just speculate for the reasons of it.

Are you confused? I never lived in Vojvodina and that comment is not from me. You seem to see me everywhere.
But if I read your question...what the K-Albanians can show for it the answer is afully simple: first of all they are all alive, 2 millions of them. Without NATO's humanitarian intervention in 1999 that number today would be terribly reduced. I am sure you would agreee with it.
Shame that I have to go..otherwise I would have given you many more reasons.

(Joe, 30 July 2008 19:54)

Joe,
please say quickly "Camp Bondsteel". BTW: the entire "Kosova" issue is high on neo-con agenda and they are sucking everyone's blood.

"you don't pay US taxes anymore"
(Joe, 30 July 2008 19:54)

Joe,

American citizens pay taxes regardless of their location from their income worldwide. What some may consider not to pay are State taxes. Some still consider to pay taxes to the State of last residence - for whatever reason. Not paying Federal taxes and social security at all is bad for the health: the food in American prisons is probably not organic and I don't think, they serve Punjena Paprika/Töltöttpaprika there.

Since I pay social security and Federal taxes and probably even State tax: they (and you) have to listen to my political ramblings in exchange for that. Fair enough?

"You s/b a happy camper in BG and not be obsessed with anything American. It is not good for your blood pressure."
(Joe, 30 July 2008 19:54)

Nothing wrong with most things "American". I am sure, if Founding Fathers would be alive, first what they would do is to put the entire neo-con gang in prison. The second would they do is to reform the judical system where people can get 20 years in prison for a pub brawl, life term for stealing a chocolate bar (under 3-strike law in California) and mass murderers can get away with few years under plea bargain or nothing (like Clintons). The third is probably look at the foreign policy of their country and pull their hair out one-by-one.

Otherwise, God bless America (and many other places, including countries and territories mentioned before by me or others)

Kosova is a nation. Thus, its citizens are Kosovars. They may be of different race, religion, ethnicity but they are first Kosovars and then whatever. Kosova declared independence based on the will of its own people, at least 95% of them. Montenegro declared independence based on a 51.6% majority for it. Even the naming of it unilateral is insulting, in the case of Kosova. Actually, Kosova's declaration approval by its population has the highest majority in the region.

even though it may seem a paradox, i do believe that these "new" borders will help eventually foster a more international spirit for the people of the balkans. but all of these countries of ex-yu need to grow as multi-cultural democracies, with successful economies and cooperation both inside and btwn countries. it will not happen with rhetoric but with slow and steady work, if people choose a cooperative direction. and your politicians must lead in a positive way, not in the bad old ways.

I fully agree with the first one. "Thanks, but no thanks". My government was spreading your lands with depleted Uranium and killed many innocent Albanians. The second is wrong:

number two: indirectly, I did participate in the NATO actions of 1999 because guess who is paying the taxes?

USA is not a communist country. I paid all my taxes in USA from the day#1 like everyone else and never received any aid. I want to see my taxes being put to the good cause. From that perspective IMO so far Kosovo was a complete failure.

What is interesting and it maybe answers your question. I barely have/had connection to immigrant communities. We neither asked, nor received any help. Some first-generation immigrants may indeed feel, my views are "unpatriotic". They rarely give that impression to many similar-minded American peers, I would be "a US citizen on paper only".

@John Taylor:

@BKK:

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.

According the link:

http://tinyurl.com/5fudut

"The U.S. Embassy Skopje is designated as the venue for U.S. nonimmigrant visa services to citizens of Kosovo."

For Canada also correct:

http://tinyurl.com/63ju9n

@Roberto:

My friend: Those passports newly issued by the Republic of Kosova, will be accepted by the major industrialized world powers. They will be valid for travel to the United States, Canada, more than 20 EU countries including Germany, Grance, Britain, and Italy, as well as Australia, and Japan. I do not know what part of the world you live in at present, but to most people in the Balkans, being able to travel to such countries is their idea of "emigration".

So for us there is no joy. There is no joy for Albanians whom we work with either.

On the street you don't see much of the trouble - it's all under the hood.

That is, if the situation is "normal", like between Serbia and Montenegro.

If it's abnormal, there is much more to complain about.

'Very good to hear, hopefully sooner rather than later we will be doing the same thing up here in Vojvodina.'

joe about that
what thing do you mean exactly? if you look at the road our albanians have traveled, lets say it aint worth it. what do they have to show for it, a make believe passport and nato, eu, un, osce you name it ruled piece of land, and then not even all of it. fed by donor money, not even able to have round the clock electricity. i do believe it's called collapse. and then seeing mup all the time everywhere and forever afraid who might form the next government in belgrade.. passport thats fine, but where do you go when you're in a dead end blind alley.

Hi louie!! your comment is noted. but to tell you frankly it will not convince the serbian people at all. let see what the international court (ICJ)will say on september. Quitting kosovo is never an option!! kosovo is Serbia!!

I think that Serbs are underestimating the albanians' resolve in this matter. Of course albanians knew they will have a lot of problems and their new state will be in a limbo for a while, and that will cause a great deal of inconvenience. But apparently albanians DON'T CARE. From my understanding they are willing to pay any price and go through any hardship as long as they are not under serbian rule. And now that it seems they are so close to their century old goal, there is no hardship that will break their will for an independent state.

Ataman

@John Taylor:

@BKK:

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.

According the link:

http://tinyurl.com/5fudut

"The U.S. Embassy Skopje is designated as the venue for U.S. nonimmigrant visa services to citizens of Kosovo."

For Canada also correct:

@Roberto:

Freedom you really must be living in a dream. Passports in Vojvodina?

Vojvodina is majority Serbian. Its not Kosovo where there are 90 percent albanians.
