“the Serb dominated Yugoslavia is gone.”

Serb dominated? I’d love some of what you’re smoking! Makes for a great sound byte, but the facts simply don’t support it.

If it were so “Serb dominated” why did Kosovo and Vojvodina get autonomy and Krajina and parts of Bosnia did not?

Remember “Weak Serbia, Strong Yugoslavia”?

The reality is if the Albanian population has fully participated in the democratic institutions in Yugoslavia, Milosevic would not have been able to come to power.

A Croatian dominated Yugoslavia run by a dictator was just fine with you.

However, a democracy where the Serbs were in the majority is somehow very evil to you. You only want to live in a democracy where your people are in the majority and in control, yet you expect Serbs to want to live in the minority in these regions you created.

Why one standard for yourself and another for the Serbs?

What exactly did we want that was so wrong? We only wanted what you wanted. Not to be dominated by other ethnicities that have a tradition of abusing us when they are in the majority.

Wow, not so Black & White is it?

"Only Unity Saves the Serbs and we are our own worst enemies."

Unity to do the wrong thing got you where you are now. Face it, you're an average country with 7 million people now, and you no longer really count. Peace is the only option: the Serb dominated Yugoslavia is gone.

Peter, in all honesty it sounds very much like what the far right does in the US when speaking about Abortion doctors or gays. I do not believe those statements could be prosecuted in the US. It certainly does not rise to the level of a “death threat” that’s actionable under California law. In California, I can even say, “I’m going to kill you someday” and its not a crime.

A painfull reminder of the 90's and a comformation that the radicals hasn't changed one bit.
How anyone can support these comments and even justify them is beyond me.

It's dificult to see the Serbian socciety getting split up in two camps, while unity is what we need. No-one is a traitor here, there are only different thoughts on how to move forwards.

"Here in the USA people insinuate all the time that the president or future presidents (Obama in particular) could end up like "assassinated" presidents.
(Thufir, 26 July 2008 21:34)"

Thufir, it may be true that people are discussing the real risk in Obama and others ending up assassinated. But it is still illegal to make such threats, and the Freedom of Speech Act does not allow such statements (in any democracy I know of). Here in the USA, her threatening words would probably lead to prosecution, or at least a very serious investigation. You would never hear one politician make such statements against an opponent. Not that USA is a role model, but let's get at least these facts straight.

While I don’t agree with many of Tadic’s policies, these statements coming from SRS are an embarrassment to all true Serbs. It just makes us and our cause look stupid, uneducated and extreme.

This is a time for unity, not in-fighting.

Only Unity Saves the Serbs and we are our own worst enemies.

While I am a Euro-Skeptic, linking the SAA to Kosovo so closely will only be shooting ourselves in the foot.

Signing the SAA is unfortunately a reality and it will go through (much as I’m strongly against that without a clause guaranteeing our territory) now the International community has the ammunition to also claim that it’s an acceptance of the UDI.

That was one of the stupidest and short sited arguments I’ve ever seen.

We need an intelligent and educated response to the EU, not chest thumping and threats. That’s the kind of crap that got us stuck in our current situation. Have we learned nothing from the public relations disasters of the 90’s?

Tadic deserves our support, he is our President. While I don’t agree with the way in which he’s fighting to save Kosovo, he is still fighting for that cause and he’s what we got right now.

Stupid, stupid stupid…

Bganon, mob violence appears to be a Serbian past time to me. I was in Belgrade when Serbia won a World basketball championship, the town center was basically destroyed (I admit it was a lot of fun). I saw lines of Policemen standing there doing basically nothing. We need to take those sorts of events seriously as well, then we can move on to tackle other kinds of violence that are more difficult to contain.

Thufir

“It’s disgraceful that eight years after the democratic changes in Serbia that anyone should be making such death threats to the president."

I guess freedom of speech was not one of those "democratic changes". Here in the USA people insinuate all the time that the president or future presidents (Obama in particular) could end up like "assassinated" presidents.

ZK, yet another of your DSS excuses and projections. I don't recall of Tadic ever threatening another politician with assassination.

He certainly threaten to liquidate Markićević from the DSS/NS coalition - same thing as assassination I think.

Here are some links to refresh those with selective memory. I can't seem to find bganon or any other "protector of democracy" protesting. It's also quite interesting to see B92 use the word "allegedly" in this instance.

I have to agree with bganon here. There's no place in any civilized country for the calling for the assassination of any political leader, not the least in referencing such action in the shadow of a previous assassination. MPs can hurl insults, they can trade barbs, but no one has the right, nor the authority, to tell anyone to watch their back in case of unforeseen accidents. If this is the mentality the SRS is hiding behind the more legitimate populist mantle, they haven't progressed much since the 1990s.

Keep up with your excuses, you're painting yourself with your true colors.

Marko, here's to hoping that Tadic and his government follow through with action and start criminally prosecuting people who condone hate speech and violence. Aleksandar Vucic, Tomislav Nikolic.

This opportunity should be used to clamp down on hate speech and public threats, particularly from politicians.

The prosecution should react and whilst we are there, reform to the parliamentary rule book should be pushed through and those who break it should face proper sanctions.
Its time for certain parties and their supporters in Serbia to tidy up their act.

Is it any wonder that some SRS supporters think that violence at demonstrations if their leaders are encouraging it?

Imaric Vezic

Any political leader who can comment like that shouold be arrested and punished imprisonment or thrown out of country for at least a couple of decaded as it is nothing less than threat to National Security and of giving birth to Terrorism.
