How on earth did Milosevic expel anybody? 100,000 Albanians lived in Belgrade throughout the Kosovo troubles, not one was expelled. The group that has been doing the expelling is the KLA/Albanian mafia, who want an "ethnically pure" Kosovo. They're getting ample help from NATO and the West, which has always sided with those who want to commit genocide against the Serbs and Roma peoples.

The ICTY can - by condemning warcrimes - prevent that they happen again. Unfortunately ICTY never seriously investigated the war crime that the US is involved in: the cleansing of the Krajna. They have now Gotovina in The Hague, but as they never took the trouble to prosecute the small fish like they did in Srebrenica they may well end up with knowing too little. Now Kosovo's Serbs may pay a price as Fried seems eager to repeat the Krajna cleansing.

The whole of Kosovo is a Serbian province. The West should stop this nonsense. Kosovo can become indepedent but only if Sebia agrees. See Ethipia and Eritrea!

No double standards.

Serbia (including Albanians): welcome in Europe!

Chris B is correct in what he says, the last thing the west wants is to force the K-Serbs into an uprising or to increase tensions. For the west the bigger picture is getting Serbia into Europe, getting displaced people back to Kosovo. To stabilize Kosovo as a managed independent democratic state.

The west will not want to upset the balance of power in Belgrade, with Tadic going out of his way to suck up to the west it something we can not afford to loose.

We have seen recently many nationalists on the streets and the west will be keeping an eye on the situation. The west knows the balance of power can tip the other way from the pre Europeans.

On a final note did the US expect the Albanian Kosovo government to work as well as the Serbian one? We are dealing with former terrorists and criminals. Its abit like Hamas running all of Palestine.

Well done to the Northern K_Serbs for running there side successfully. Maybe they should run all of Kosovo in the same context the Serbs run parts of Bosnia.

isn´t it ridiculous to write about racism, because this man calls you that way?

what is quite interesting, it´s just the way the Albanians call themselves in their language!

to be clear on this: I call you Albanians, because it is the english term and we are communicating here in english.

otherwise, it would be in no way racism to say Šiptar/Shqiptar , please don´t make mountains out of molehills!

..or is it also an insult to call the citizens of the US of A "Americans"?

The Serbs in northern Mitrovica have no choice but to conform to the will of the state. Whether state-run institutions are functioning better under the Serb or Kosovar Governments is useless debate, as the overall Serb track record with regard to the management of the province can only be compared with the most brutal of occupations.

And yes, "siptar" is a word used to defame Albanians in the Serb language, and it was used specifically for that purpose.

There really is no alternative, the nations recognizing Kosovo make up the bulk of the world's economic, military and diplomatic might. The Serbs should shed their nationalist ambition, as well as their archaic notions of a dominant Russian Federation aiding their intentions, and gravitate towards the EU for their own benefit and security.

The State Department doesn't really care who controls Northern Kosovo as long as it doesn't break off. That's the main goal. This government in Washington is leaving in little over 5 months, and for as dense as some of its officials can be, I highly doubt they honestly think some form of control is going to gained over the north in that time.

They can say all they want about unity, but short of sending NATO across the river in a military campaign (and thus risking a general uprising in Kosovo Province and a collapse of government in BG), they're not going to do anything.

When push comes to shove, for all the rhetoric coming from Rice and Fried, it doesn't make one difference to the United States if Kosovo is ruled by two governments as long as Kosovo's territory remains intact.

sp,

I have never made such comparison with dogs. I however did claim and still claim that Serbs living south of the Ibar River do live in ghettos, isolated and mistreated on the daily basis. They are surrounded by the Albanians. But, that’s the Albanian image and those ghettoes speak only for the Albanians themselves.

"The northern part of Kosovo is under control; it's under control of Serbia"

Well, let`s see: The army is NATO, the police is KPS and the border is controlled by UNMIK. So , what exactly does Belgrade control there?

sidi,

Isn't "shqiptar" pronounced as "shiptar"?

Certainly as a citizen of Serbian Kosovo, you realize that there is no "q" in the Serbian alphabet?

So what's the problem?

Oh. . .if it makes you feel better. . .feel free to call me a chetnik (its a badge of honor for most of us)

"Kosovo Serbs condemn State Dept. views"...

Of course, I find it hard to disagree with you...

However, the end of Belgrade sponsored anarchy in the Republic of Kosovo is immiment, and the citizens of the North Kosovo for FIRST TIME are about to sense how is to live in a newborn democratic and soverign country called Kosova.

I am pretty sure they will enjoy it, however at first they may attempt to push the bar as high as it can get...

There we go, the racist Jaksic trying to win points with disillusioned hardliners by using profane terms such as "Shiptars". The correct term is Shqiptar. "Shiptar" is the term used by Milosevic and his loyalists in their campaign to rid the Balkans from any other nationality besides the Serbs. Grow up please. I can't believe this guy is called a politician. A hate mongerer is more appropriate.

The northern part of Kosovo is under control; it's under control of Serbia, where it belongs. For these US officials to call for the "international community" to take control of northern Kosovo is akin to a call for ethnic cleansing, something they pretend they are interested in preventing.

bmrusila

pre 15 godina

That is the point of all troubles. Everyone must admit that Serbs are doing far better job in the province, thus the USA cannot stand that fact and wants to drag the Serbs into failed Albanian institutions. As we can see, Serbs do not oppose any presence of the international body but they do mind to be forcefully dragged right into disaster that Albanians created. My dear K-Serbs, no one can forcefully establish any control over you as long as you use boycott as a legal mean in defending what is ours. I t is important to stay resolute and not to succumb to any pressure. They can send million UNMIK, EULEX but you can always ignore them and boycott them, do not cooperate with them. They are anyway only for show over there. I don’t think it is in anyone’s interest to react the way it used to be, by using Special Forces and torturing civilians.
