Newsflash: (sorry for the cliched intro but sometimes it fits) -- the balkans is absolutely swimming in corruption. this is reported to me by balkan frnds all of the time, especially throughout bosnia, serbia, and yes, sad to say, kosova. there is a pattern of deep corruption there esp in certain spheres, and i know this to be the case, because it is reported to me not by the usual enemies of kosova, but by some of their deepest proponents. the "why" and "wherefore" is another question.

the whole point is not how much corruption the balkans has, but what is being done about it? in each of the states. things need to improve in kosova, and the intl. community structures need to be part of the answer, not the problem!

I do not think a single finger is enough. It sounds more like the whole hand and all 5 fingers are needed:

Seems to me like a lot of people in your corner of the world has a serious attitude problem wrt. taking bribes. And I doubt that the attitude suddenly changes at the Serbian border.

At least we don't commit ethnic cleansing on our neighbouring countries, and then brand it as serbian land for political gains, and in the end have the decency to not recognise the country and create unrest in the balkans

No, no, our colleagues from Camp Kosova are right: corruption is not just in Kosovo Province, but everywhere in the Balkans, Serbia included. The difference however is that while corruption may be present in cases such as customs police, traffic police and various heads of political parties in Serbia Proper (I talking about you Mr. Ilic, even though Cacak is spotless), the corruption in Kosovo Province goes right up the food chain to the offices of Thaci, Sejdiu, and I wouldn't be surprised, Sipahi Feith. Here, the corruption is directly supported by international powers and backers, all in the name of multiethnic democracy. So yes, all countries may be corrupt to a degree, but some countries (or in the case of Kosovo, international mandates) are more corrupt than others.

"How much is bribery of a policeman in Kosovo?

It took me 5,- EUR for a customs policeman in Serbia."

you are free to make presents to serbian officials, but to call it bribery,... I mean, hey, wake up, you gave him just five euro´s! lol.

I´ll give you a hint: you don´t have to pay it, if you don´t want! :)

Corruption in Pristina is not news to anyone. And of course the biggest thieves are the ones associated with K_Albanian ruling clans, Haradinaj, and so on. I'm curious how the EULUX plans to deal with these crime families. Will they just cut deals with them, i.e., become accomplices, or actually try and eradicate the mafiosos. Anyway, with all the moola that will be pouring in from Western donors, there will be plenty for local chieftans and EU officials to share. I guess the US/EU thinking is, easier to join them, than to fight them.

How much is bribery of a policeman in Kosovo?

It took me 5,- EUR for a customs policeman in Serbia. Hungarian-Serbian border, near Subotica. Honestly, he ordered (sorry for my poor Serbian): "Neshto za kahfu i pasosh." He was a stocky man, whith grey curl, I guess still working there.

No that can't be true!
Kosova as many would say is a free democratic country. Corruption is non-existent. Tolerance and justice is provided for all Ablanians and lets not forget its minority populations.

It will be a thriving economy, a beaken to the rest of the world of how corruption, intolerance and injustice will not be tolerated. A pillar of success. A utopia above all.

Then I woke up!
