Even without the Kosovo-stamp, the Serbs send us back to Kosovo. They wouldn't tell why... Maybe because we where Dutch tourists from Holland and a week earlier Karadiz was transported to Holland. But when we did get angry to the Serb borderpatrol, because they wouldn't let us drive into Serbia, they did become agressive. So after an hour we did go back to Kosovo.

Not a real good promotion of Serbia...

Danilo

The story here is that you can now travel from Kosovo to the rest of Serbia without having to go to Macedonia.

Previously, if you flew to Pristina, you couldn't travel to the rest of Serbia without going to a third country because you didn't have a Serbian stamp in your passport and were therefore in the country illegally. Canada has this warning on their foreign affairs website.

So, this is really a story about how you can cross into central Serbia if you flew to Pristina and of the border authorities' tacit recognition of Kosovo

"Sounds like a contradiction of ideas. If Kosovo is Serbia why is there a separate border checkpoint entering into Serbia?
(sp, 17 July 2008 23:29)"

that´s a placebo, to make the extremist Albanians believe they got what they wanted...

but don´t worry, many Albanians are not that stupid!
and as soon as the US leave the scene...and that WILL happen... Serbia WILL be there.

by the way: did you speak about the albanian hatred against everything non-albanian? otherwise your comment makes no sense...

For once I agree with Peggy, if it bothers you don't go to Serbia. I doubt that there are that many people other than Serbians maybe taking a cheaper flight into Pristina that this would affect anyway.
As an American I would not feel safe crossing the border after reading the hate expressed in here anyway.

My passaport is not 'a prpeety of teh Serbian Gov.t' so Serbia cannot cancell nothing in my paasaport- it will be teh authorities of my country that will or will not cancell a stamp or withdrow my poassaport for missuse.

Something similar to Israel refusing you entry because you have Syrian, Saudi visa/stamp. Similar to US not giving you visa because of Cuban stamp on your passport. Similar to China refusing a visa because you have been to Taiwan. It all comes down to dialogue between the countries, but they are making a political point, so they don't care. Good luck to all of us working in Serbia/Kosovo.

Looks like a lot of people seem to be upset about this so the mocking started.

If you don't like it, don't go to Serbia. Simple.

"exhibited by the Greece and Turkey border authorities 20 years ago"
Make that 35 years ago and we were and then again 24 years ago and both times for a very short period. If you are familiar with the facts of the times, in both occasions there was a virtual "casus belli" ongoing. And yes, of course it was childish :)

Jovan

pre 15 godina

it´s quite logic, with that move every individual is reminded that the "documents" of the stillborn puppet-entity aren´t woth the paper.. and that their stamp has no meaning at all.

as for the international reaction: it´s the best way to keep this issue in mind of many people who see or hear about it, so just go on laughing about it! I laugh too, but more about your naivety...

since there is no kosovo-"republjik", their toy-stamps can be crossed out freely, of course!

It smells of the same childish behaviour that was(?) exhibited by the Greece and Turkey border authorities 20 years ago. If you had a Greece stamp in your passport you could not enter Turkey and vice versa. It was a common problem for teenagers taking an Interrail tour to Greece and wanting to spend a few days in Turkey too.

"comon give MUP some credit-they have evolved from commiting mass murder, rape and deportation to crossing stamps-all within a decade-thats what I called progress..."

Really, i have to ask: is someone putting us on? Are those "nice" people at the border really planning on defacing my pretty american passport as we (re)enter serbia from Kosova, to visit our frnd in sandjak? it is so silly, so crazy, so immature. and i do protest!! another border incident, just what i need...

i will really have to learn to watch my (big) mouth at the border. i really prefer not to end up in one of your democratic jails...

i am so glad that serbia is now democratic and pro-western, pardon the expression.

now in this case, i think even most of our usual opponents will see the utter bizarreness of this decision.

roberto/frisco

ps now that i think about it, even when i traveled thru those "nice" communist countries in the late 80s, like E. germany and Poland, even those stalinist regimes did not cross out the stamps from the "decadent" west.

Once they were sending ppls to jail because thay have said or written KOSOVA REPUBLIK. Huge investigations would have been done, people arretsed and of course what was written would've been cancelled immediately- as they do write now.

My uncle got 5 years prison for saying Albanains should be equal with other nations in Yugo. Ok it was official meeting- but where he should have said that in WC? ;)

(CoscoVo, 17 July 2008 15:19)

CoscoVo you don't have regions in YOUR country that have names that differ form the name of your country? like e.g. ITALY and TOSCANY? Or ENGLAND and WELS or... ;))

This ritual need to be followed by a chicken plucking exercise and the complete submerge in feathers of every passport that has Kosova stamp on them. After this, the same MUP members can also do a voodoo dance, just to make sure that nothing of Kosova remains on the same passport.

veki

Brilliant Idea and fun to do too.
I know many people in Europe and N.America who are extremely anti-Kosovo UDI.They will make this trip just for fun and preserve the invalidated Kosovo stamp in their passports as a fact and souvenir.

CoscoVo

pre 15 godina

How can I get one of these Kosovo passports? It can't be a resident requirement. Because most people living there are from Albania. So what are the prerequisites? These things may be worth money on E-Bay one day, for there novelty like 3 dollar bills. I empathize with Albanians though. You have such a desperation to have a place to call your own, that you ignore the illegality of your IUDI, while floating in your euphoria. Reality will be a bad headache, but you already have your own country. Where do Albanians come from, that's right, Albania.

Olf

Cross the stamps, I don’t believe it!?
If I was MUP official I would consider this action before I become object of fun.
Next time I go to Belgrade I will see this happen and I will make sure I ask MUP official why is he/she doing this, why are they ruining my passport with this backwardly action and smile in the end.

This action I think that it will only add to the already bad image of Serbia in the world. Imagine what will foreigners say when asked about the scribbling in their passports. I will make sure that I describe it as worst as possible.
