Mike,

In your post #12 above, you seem to have missed a very basic concept: having an independent Kosova means not needing permission from Belgrade to join the IMF. But then again, from your point of view I guess you think it should be an honor and privilege to be a part of Serbia! Obviously, there are many nations and individuals who would disagree with you, surprising as it might be for you!!!

"it's actually something Belgrade would have allowed in their sweeping package of autonomy for Kosovo"

Oh well. We have full independence. It's much better than having 95% to beg the 5% .

Actually to those who think this is some major victory for Camp Kosova, it's actually something Belgrade would have allowed in their sweeping package of autonomy for Kosovo. So joining the IMF is, if their application is granted, something that would have been facilitated anyway.

Toni,

I have the same feeling. Things are developing nicely and even better than excepted.
The IMF recognition happened pretty fast. The Serbian camp predicted for a long time that this will never happen.

IMF grants Kosovo's wish gives them a boat load of money, corruptions runs rampant where did the money go? Kosovo ask the IMF to forgive the debt some saps are rich and the poor keep getting poorer. That is going to be the story line and Kosovo is not Hong Kong nor is it Macao. Keep Dreaming folks. So what if the IMF recognizes Kosovo, does that still make them a legitimate state no it does not. The EU does not run the world.

Kosova has no other choice. Maybe IMF will set them straight as well

IMF recognizes Kosovo, begins to weigh membership

Kosovo broke away from Serbia in February in defiance of Belgrade and Moscow, but it has been recognized by 43 mostly Western governments including the United States and many European countries, which have a majority voting power in the

IMF.

"It has been determined that Kosovo has seceded from Serbia as a new independent state and that Serbia is the continuing state," the IMF said in a statement.

Why B92 didn't say any word about the fact that the IMF has recognized Kosovo's indepedence? This is a little bit strange that exactly the decisive sentence is missing.

Here the full text (source: www.imf.org):

"In the context of this application, it has been determined that Kosovo has seceded from Serbia as a new independent state and that Serbia is the continuing state."

Going onto the IMF's "Countries" page, it seems the boys in Legal already did some preemptive CYA work and posted this little note:

"On this site, the term "country" does not in all cases refer to a territorial entity that is a state as understood by international law and practice. As used here, the term also covers some territorial entities that are not states. Dependent territories of member countries are listed alphabetically followed by a description of the constitutional relationships with their member countries."

Looking at the list, Macao and Hong Kong are both IMF members, even though they're not states. This will probably be Pristina's loophole in.

If it's a good day, and they're in a good mood, Serbia's representatives may even allow for Kosovo's ascension, provided it be listed as being part of Serbia, or whatever.

Before accepting any loans from the IMF or others, consider reading the book: "Confessions of an economic hitman." The loans come at a very high price, beyond the monetary value.
