Eagle, you speak of Croatia, Bosnia etc becoming independent despite Serbia not wanting it.
Well, Serbia recognized them as they were republics in the first place.
Kosovo has NEVER been a republic, but is a part of Serbia so they don't have any right to break away and Serbia will not recognize you.
Don't you get it by now? Kosovo was not a republic so how can you compare yourself with the former republics of Yugoslavia?
What exactly entitles you to break away and become a country? Don't start with the ethnic cleansing rubbish again. You have done plenty of that to the Serbs.
Bottom line. Without UNSC approval you DON'T have a country. It is irrelevant that 43 countries recognze you. What about the rest of the world, or is the rest of the world insignificant?

What is going to force Serbia to recognize you? Your sarcasm and threats? You don't have the might and don't depent of the US too much for more bombing. They will not be allowed to do that ever again.

That is called democracy, and dont worry albanians are not affraid from serbian flags, as the serbs were, that they tried to stop from flying million of times.
We in Kosova, allow every citizen to feel as he want, we are way to different from our northern naighbour, where not only the human rights are violated, but the human lives are endangered too. Slowly but secure, Kosova will be the place to lead those countries ( like yours ) in a way of democracy, in a way of prossper and good life, that small part of serb minority in Kosova, they can raise the flag as high as they want , they have the right for it, but they know, their homeland is Kosova, and their capital is Prishtina.

It is good to see Belgrade supporting the Kosovo Serbs. Prishtina has never been against that. However, it should only be just that, support and not interference.

Kosovo serbs will understand that Kosovo is their country too.

The donors conference in Brussels just delivered 1.2 billion euros to Kosovo. This is what makes the difference. I wonder whether Russia or Belgrade can match that. Serb media seems to have chosen to ignore this, but you cannot cover the sun with a sieve says an Albanian proverb.

So wake up Kosovo Serbs, stay where you are and start contributing to a new and prosperous Kosovo. Look to the future.

All that's missing from this scenario, in my opinion, is that nightmare of a Milosevic to stand before "his" people shouting: You will never again have to be so oppressed... in other words, i am terribly hard-pressed to see the difference between those nightmare days and the (supposedly) new and democratic serbia. where parliamentarians scream out against "criminal" djindjic, and everyone sits on their hands except a few Liberal politicians... is this the same serbia that all of the minorities of the former YU are still supposed to be so happy and grateful to belong to??

and, while we're at it, what was the point of dumping that wretched Kostunica, only to be replaced with same old, same old?

Our Albanians friends on this site today appear to collectively miss the point of the article and the statement of not allowing "...for any symbols of Albanian statehood to be present in the province."

As far as the K Serbs are concerned, the Albanians can fly the biggest reddest flag and erect the largest, gaudiest monument in their sectors. Serbs just don't that stuff in their own sectors. This has little to do with reversing internationally proppsed up sovereignty as it does with Serbs simply taking matters into their own hands irrespective of what anyone in Pristina directly mandates.

Keep your stuff out of my backyard and I'll kep my stuff out of yours.

Dave,
Kosovo will never be a truly indpendent state it is or will be another frozen conflict, as long as Serbs and Albanians lay claim to the land,

Let me tell you something, it took a while for some other ex-YU countries ( Croatia, Bosnia etc ) to be recognized, so it may take a while for Kosova as well, but all 193 countries will recognize it, just need some time and we will get it. God bless USA, they are here to bring peace, but they are also here to protect Kosova citizens, USA respects human rights, i don t know why you think that it is losing credibility. Kosova will be a truly indepedent state, Kosova albanians will stay and die on their land of Kosova.

I have seen the support sent earlier. Support really stays inside the Serbian Parliament hall. You can ask any ordinary K-Serb from North of Kosova/Little Columbia about the support they get form Serbia. The only support they got so far is the few Serbian mafia moved form Serbia proper into their neighborhood, that’s it.

43 arm-twisted recognitions is coming to nothing; the Palestinians have over 100 and still don't have a sovereign state or a UN seat. Wait until Serbia gets 120+ votes for the UN General Assembly resolution condemning the unilateral declaration; then we'll see what will come of your fake "Kosova".

I have two things to say to the above comment.
First, it is drenched in racism, and it shows the true mentality of the Serbian population in Kosovo, which has always seen itself as a privileged constituency, there to rule over the majority Albanians. That time, my friend, is over!

Second, I am not sure Mr. Jaksic understands the reality on the ground very well. Over 90% of Kosovar territory is full of symbols ok Albanian statehood. Albanian and Kosovar flags, as well as many memorials to KLA heroes dot the landscape in most of Kosova. Northern Mitrovica is only a small pocket of the territory where Mr. Jaksic gets to "deny" Albanian symbols. Let us choose our words more carefully next time.

in the same context the UN does not recognise Kosovo either as a state and not all EU nations do either. Only 43 out oF 193 countries recognise Kosovo as a state. It doesnt really matter what the USA says they are losing credability world wide. Kosovo will be divided up because the EU will see it as the best possible solution for stability.

Soil of Kosovo: one of the reasons Kosovo was granted independence by some countries was because the majority are Albanian, a split along ethnic lines. In an attempt to avoid other ethnic peopes doing the same they dubbed Kosovo a special case when in reality its no different to any other contry which has had civil war.

Kosovo will never be a truly indpendent state it is or will be another frozen conflict, as long as Serbs and Albanians lay claim to the land, KFOR will be there for a long time to come. The other key player is Russia they are getting strong again not just in a military capacity but economically as well. They have what Europe needs, Gas and Oil. The only possible solution to Kosovo is division split it like Korea. The EU or UN has made no attempt to stop the K-Serb assemblies and will deal with them to keep the peace.
