The only way Kosovo can ever have independence is if Serbia agrees to it. This is difficult for some Albanians to fathom. So long as Serbia disagrees, there cannot be independence. It's been nearly five months since the decleration of independence and thus far only 43 or so countries have recognized Kosovo as an independent country. Yes, the US is a major global power, but it's not the world's only power. If things stay the way they do, this will remain a frozen conflict for ever. However, I believe the better solution is for Kosovo's Albanian leadership to swallow their pride and go to the negotiating table. I believe a just solution can be found where everyone would be satisfied, if not happy. However, Kosovo's Albanian leadrship has to stop hiding under America's apron like a bunch of little children, "If you don't give us independence, my mommy will get you in trouble." That never works with one's peers.

"ZK is right.. if your truly independent do you have to continue to come to Serbian chat rooms and keep lobbying Kosovo independence.. no your free now go enjoy all the freedom that you don't even have.

True Nikola. I for one as a Serb would never go on an Albanian website and ask for anything, much less independence. Never met a Serb here who would give Kosovo away and so it baffles me that certain Albanians are trying to convince us to let Kosovo go--I would feel ashamed to do that. I believe that they sense that until Serbs collectively agree to independence (not likely) and sign away legal ownership of the land as per international law, they are not really independent at all. Nevertheless how can you continually repeat the same mantra and not get tired of it? Sramota bre.

I will gladly answer your points, number 6.

Abandon means no political, economic, or military support, just like in those countries I mentioned. The us would be the last to withdraw recognition, but the first to redraw "kosova"s borders. What would Serbia do if the us troops went home? Slowly re-take its province, bit by bit, with Russian assistance. Because if the us went home with its money, so would the rest of western europe. You seem to be laboring under the delusion that it is the us + eu vs. Serbia and Russia, but it is really only the us vs. Serbia. The Russians support Serbia as a proxy against the us and the eu just pays lip service (and tribute) to the us. How long can the us hold out? Just ask the Vietnamese.

serbian Parlament should ebate the invitation from President Bush to White House for President Sejdiu and PM Thaqi on 21 of July. I wonder what they would talk about in private session!
(Ahmet Isufi, 11 July 2008 19:06)

they should probably debate on who will be arrested first; bush, sedju or thaci.

"When the us realizes that "kosova" did not win them muslim friends, they will abandon it like they did Cambodia, Iran, Lebanon, Nicaragua and Yugoslavia."

What exactly do you mean by "abandon"? Revert the recognition? Not likely!

Pull those 1500 troops who are in the Albanian areas anyway? So be it, what is Serbia going to do after that!

Stop the aid? Maybe so, but do you think this will give leverage to Serbia to invade Kosova again?

I can't think of anything else what "abandon" means to you.
Can you?

Also could you please provide Serbia's response, according to your opinion, after the "abandonment" takes place?
I would be very curious to know.

Thanks.

Why Serbia talk about Kosova on Parliament level:

1. To keep pressuring Prishtina to give more regional right to Serbs in Kosova (apparent)
2. To pressure the west to UNRECOGNISE Kosova ( I don’t think so)
3. To provide Serbs in Kosova false hopes about their prospect (apparent)
4. Ruling parties to be seen thy are doing something -Pleasing Tabloids in Serbia ( apparent)
Other than those there is nothing that happens in Belgrade can effect Kosova. ;)

I remember them adopting Resolutions against Kosova Independence too.
What happened to those? Are they gone with Kostunica?
Debate is a healthy thing. I wish they did the same 20 years ago.
They should debate Serbian war criminals hand over as there are plenty.

Some people can never learn that the us is not the dictator to the world. Look at Iran today: it is test firing missiles and threatening Israel. Yet, the us cannot launch an air strike against Iran because OPEC announced that if Iran is attacked, the price of oil will rise to unpredictable levels. That rise in oil prices will seriously damage the us economy. So the us is vulnerable and Iran knows it; they will get their nuclear weapons soon. Russia won't help because the us has insulted them with the missile defense pact in eastern europe. American weakness is exposed because of a stupid american foreign policy which included recognition of this illegal UDI. When the us realizes that "kosova" did not win them muslim friends, they will abandon it like they did Cambodia, Iran, Lebanon, Nicaragua and Yugoslavia. Look for that starting next year.

I predict the debate on the gas deal will take 1/2 day and the Kosovo resolution the other half. The EU debate will take a week or more.

So tell me Eagle, why aren't the Serbians here (and there are many of them) stating that "Serbia is an independent state" day in day out?

You see, that is the difference between true independence and a pretend one. When you have a pretend state, you have to continually and endless attempt to convince people of something that isn't so.

If you believe "Kosova" is independent, then by all means, get on and enjoy it! Or is the isolation preventing that?

Silly Goose

Eagle please post objective comments.

Ratify the SAA and continue rejecting the seccession of kosovo. Serbia in Europe will give it much more power to protect kosovo from seccesionists than one thats not in the EU

Eagle

pre 15 godina

It is clearly stated by the US ambassador in Belgrade Mr.Polt " Serbia shall be learned with Kosova indepence". No need for any imminent meeting at the serbian parliament to be hold, Kosova is a state just like Serbia is.
