Acko: "But how can these Serbian refugees and displaced persons return to their property in Kosovo when all of it have been confiscated by Albanians and theres other people living in their homes now."

Well that is the question. If the Kosovo wants to be treated as a normal country, which at the moment is not, it will have to have the political will to restre the confiscated properties and to provide K. Serbs normal living conditions. If Serbs want to be treated properly, they will have to show minimum of willing to cooperate, and that means nothing less than reconsiliation with Kosovo's independence.
Kosovo can not be reintegrated into Serbia, but without Serbs perticipating, it could never be a normal place to live.
The Situation is as simple as that: Both sides cooperate - both sides win.
One side refuses to cooperate - both sides lose.

One thing to remember is that Mr. Obama is in the same party as Clinton. Same one that fully backed the bombing of Serbia in 1999 because of it's brutal regime in Kosova.

Serbia will eventually join the EU, but first it needs to recognize Kosova.

As for what Obama has said, I'm sure he knows the relations between Serbia and the well, or whoever wrote his script sticks close to him because he's in for a treat.

At the end of the day every vote counts...

Obama is speaking from a vewpoint of accepted post-independence situation. As supporter of dialogue, he will probably push for more talks between the Serbian and Albanian officials, on the grounds of cultural and other rights of the Serbian minority in Kosovo. Hopefully, this will somehow change the situation on the ground in Kosovo, and push local Serbs to go out from their enclaves, and cooperate with Albanians, at least economically. As it stands, Serbian enclaves in Kosovo are a heaven for illegal economy. This is principally the fault of Belgrade, that uses the population as a hostage for its own purposes, and seconarily and thirly, it is the fault of the int. community that over the years preferred status quo more than solution, as well as Kosovo local insitutions, who besides showing symbolic willingness, have to shown creativity of overcoming this situation.
Mr. Obama might be influenced by the Serbian populationi in Illinois, but he will not radically shift the foreign policy to hurt the strategic interests of US in Kosovo, and they are US friendly and independent Kosovo. And as for the comments of inviting Obama to Serbia, that could help, but not change anything significantly.

Once again, you think that the world needs you more than you need them. Ha! Plus, there is no way USA will go back on its word, especially since almost all EU nations have said yes.

Well I envie the fact that you are now becoming pro-american because of these warm word of mr. Obama. I can tell you onw thing though, United States will never change its decision for recognizing the Independence of Kosovo, theefore, he will try to bring US and A closer to Serbia but after Serbia accpets the reality on the ground.
So I do agree that Serbia has to change its attitude and start aknowledging the fact that the kosovo story is just a myth and that Kosovo is free and Independent country.

As we are both American Serbs, I'd like to add another part to your comments that's been on mind mind recently.

The last few days, America released documents pertaining to the Korean War and it's involvement. The deliberate and systematic execution of thousands of prisoners by S. Koreas forces with US support and approval is undoubtedly a part of a Korean genocide.

American was once the envy of the world, founded on the principles of equality, liberty, and fair play. Certainly the founding principles have yet to be fully achieved via civil rights, minorities, women and so on, but it's a work in progress so we hope. I don't know when it happened, perhaps our perception of ourselves morphed into a delusional creation based on power and aggression, backed by trillions of US dollars in military spending. Our behavior is puzzling, motivated by ignorant self righteous attitudes unbecoming of any nation. Our country continues to kill, DAILY, and our sons and daughters fighting for our sacred founding principles continue to bleed and suffer. Our children absorb the impact of nations determined to exact any form of revenge and pain upon our nation. It is shameful that while we prosecute other nationals for their actions, we simply turn a blind eye to our actions and proclaim them just and for the betterment of mankind.

Be warned my America, the world simply won't forget, and when our chips are down, and they will be, expect zero sympathy. I pray that we may find direction, reconnect to the source of our founding principles, and offer the beacon of hope for all. As of now, we're on the wrong path domestically and internationally.

Its nice to see an American politician focusing on Serbia. I do believe that Obama cares about Serbia, seeing as though he has had a HUGE Serbian constituency in Illinois and a long relationship with them. Lets see how it holds up if he becomes president.

OK, I've got to admit, once I got to the "The recent arrest of Stojan Župljanin..." part, he's basically reading from a script. If not, I haven't given the man far enough credit.

Still, it's nice to see that Obama is interested in really engaging Belgrade and solving the Kosovo issue once and for all. I doubt he's going to go as far as revoke recognition (might as well wish for Tito to come back from the dead), but I can see him far more than McCain in pushing for a confederated Kosovo.

I wonder how the US would respond if it's independence was in question by another leader? What if Tadic where to say we hope that Obama's administration will cooperate with NAFTA including Southern Texas? How would the US media react? Sure he threw in some nice words but he undermined Serbia's hold to Kosovo and that to me is the main point. Then he talks about helping the Serbs in Kosovo but what he doesn't get is that serbs can't be refugees in Serbia! Take away the main points guys not the sugar coated words. Serbia holding on to it's land is not the same as the propoganda of the Milosevic era the two can not be compared that is what the west needs to learn. All the six republics of Yugoslavia were given their borders and that is how it should remain. Striping Kosovo from Serbia has and will only further produce tensions in the balkans and all of the world for that matter, please Obama be the true voice of change and be different from McCain and Clinton support Serbia's integrity and I promise if Serbia got it's borders in tact the voting would be 100% pro-EU and Serbia would be a member by 2012. The west is pushing Serbia away and making it question the EU.

As soon as Senator Obama is elected as President of the United States, (and I’m sure he will be) Serbian government should invite him to Serbia. We need to get him and the United States on our side. It’s very important. United States has always been Serbia’s friend. What wife cheating, cigar user Clinton and his buddy war manger Bush did to Serbia and rest of the world is sad story in the United States foreign policy. We should prove to him and rest of the world that we are proud, peace loving people. But that we will stand up for what is rightfully ours.
P.S. You are safe to wear your watch in Serbia.

While the wording is not what we like, the essence of the message is better, than what ever came out of Bush or Clinton administration. Small step, but in the right direction. Much more has to be done, of course from American side. But interesting to know: how far is this message for the Serb/Greek lobby and what will be done if B.O. becomes the president?
