Bganon, only a fool signs somethig without proper clarification. The question put to you was "Where is the harm in clearing this up before we sign?"
You haven't answered that question at all.
I too am curious as to what your answer is.
Please no spin just a clear answer to where is the harm in making it crystal clear that any agreement between Serbia and EU or whoever is an agreement between Serbia WITH Kosovo as part of it's territory.
There are many traps in any contract so the wording must be precise.

Rick they may very well think that the SAA is all about Kosovo but I'm old fashioned in my thinking that Kosovo is all about Kosovo and that the SAA is all about the SAA.

Imagine if a group of people were loudly talking about how something was all about Kosovo, even if it was not. Would we let them dictate societies agenda? I think not. And the Serbian electorate decided that way too.

I dont know why everyone is gettng their knickers in a twist over this one. Further EU expansion into the Balkans has now been blocked thanks to us, the Irish and the Serbia's ratification of the SAA is being blocked by the Dutch so either way I cant see where the fuss is all about.

The way I see it, the Skupstina is ratifing a dead agreement in the hope that some day enlargement process might be reactivated. Besides the new government with the SPS on board wih their K-Serb leader and Jeremic back as FM will not change Serbia's policy towards its southern province.

The only way to kick start the SAA is for the Irish to ratify Lisbon and by God that will be a hard sell.

Bganon- the DSS and Kostunica (and their legal reps) all believe that the SAA is ALL ABOUT Kosovo, and the acceptance, by default, of Kosovo's recognition if the Serbian government signs the SAA without clarification. I'm not getting into the political abuses in the past from both sides in Kosovo- I'm just re-iterating what a sham it would be to have Serbia "unknowingly" recognize Kosovo's unilateral independence due to the West's "unchangeable" and well-thoughtout language in the SAA. There is nothing wrong with "clarification" among individuals and/or goverments. Do the authors of the SAA have something to hide???

“Kosovo, the cradle and heart of the Serbian civilization for the last 1000 years. Sure, economic times are hard now in Serbia, but the SAA is not the quick "fix" that so many people seem to think it is. Allocades should go to Kostunica and the DSS for unmasking the SAA "deception" and trying to protect what is, and has been for centuries, Serbian lands”

The truth is that in the last 1000 years, Kosovo was part of Serbia (or some country governed by or from Serbia, like Yugoslavia) only for around 300, non-consecutive, years.

Rick you are right that this figure (or higher) might be used to describe how many support Kosovo within Serbia.

But this article is about the SAA, not Kosovo.

We cannot use Kosovo as an answer for everything and I think, seeing as we remember how Kosovo was politically abused by Serbian politicians in the past, we must be cautious about using the Kosovo issue.

I think this may not be possible as the incoming goverment is composed of DS and now joining them is SPS. DS is insisting for a european Serbia with or WITHOUT kosovo. Tadic is weak in dealing with kosovo. Serbia should elect somebody like Kostunica or Nikolic who defies the West

Bganon- You state that 85%+ Serbian voters are against annulling the SAA. I think the better comparison is that 85% of Serbian people are against losing Kosovo, the cradle and heart of the Serbian civilization for the last 1000 years. Sure, economic times are hard now in Serbia, but the SAA is not the quick "fix" that so many people seem to think it is. Allocades should go to Kostunica and the DSS for unmasking the SAA "deception" and trying to protect what is, and has been for centuries, Serbian lands. The DSS simply wants the SAA to CLEARLY read that Kosovo is included as an integral part of Serbia- as do most countries in the world. If the SAA is NOT deceptive in it's purpose, then there's no harm in clarification, is there?Kosovo can't gain true and honest independence by "trickery" or misleading language in the SAA. No country ever gained respect from other countries through ambiguous and misleading agreements. And with so many politicians in the world who would sacrifice their own countries' interests, for their own personal gains, the DSS and Kostunica are a breath of fresh air and dignity.

There is one main problem about this stance concerning what the Serbian people should and should not do...

An overwhelming majority of Serbian voters (85%+) rejected the idea of nullifying the SAA at the last election. Whilst only one mainstream political party supports such the move. (Ilic usually does not comment the matter)

I think the Serbian people does not need a small political party to decide what its state interest is.
