ben,

Long live satire! You said -

''this is pure RACISM so b92 you shoudl censoure this type of postings.

who the hell is BKK to tale me tyhat I Albanian am like that???? ''

Replace B92 with America and BKK with Serbs and the rest is pretty much self explanitary.

The post is in no way 'racist' nor anything of the sort, but a mare truth. Roma persecutions by Albanians during Kosovo war are very well documented.

Also, you have some nerve calling my post racist when not so long ago Albanian camp, including yourself managed to lump a whole continent of Africa into a single group of savages. Ironically numerous countries belonging to the continent are way ahead of Albania, one country being the first world country.

Last, but not least, I do not assume your gender, I would appreciate you do not assume mine, since you assume wrong.

ben

pre 15 godina

Besides, man was probably not Roma. There are barly any Roma left in Kosovo, and Albanians made sure of that.

Dear All,
I just started to read your comments and I was surprised!!! All my ballkan fellows are the same, there is no difference about anything, does not matter if you are albanian, serb or other ballkan country. All you like to show that our people is better than other, but sorry my dear it is not true, all ballkanians have the same problems, all have more or less the same culture. Month ago I did a jurney from Madrid all the way down to France, north Italy, Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and arrived to Kosovo... all the way down was so obvious how much we need to improve in Ballkan countries in everything. Above of this case I just want to mention that does not matter to which comunity such a case happen, is a very bad case and should be fighted, does not matter if it is albanian, serb, whatever, GYPSY, it is needed to improve and to make not to happen again.
Do not hate, because leads to nothing!

massimo,

I persume that KLA terrorists who raped elderly women in Kosovo, then made them serve coffee were also Roma.

Incest, rape and human trafficking are very common in Albanian populated areas (as per official figures).
It is therefore sign of desperation and frankly unfairness to pin this behaviours on Roma.

Besides, man was probably not Roma. There are barly any Roma left in Kosovo, and Albanians made sure of that.

Pera

I expect most Albanians have children whilst they are barely out of thier teens how else do you explain the growth in population. They have the highest birthrate in Europe. What is worrying is that many women in Kosovo don't have the opportunity to choose a different way of life.

massimo

The Kosovo man arrested is a Roma.
Am I wrong if I remember that Roma and Serbian pillaged and ravaged K-Albanian houses side by side in 1999?

Gentlemen, keep cool.

Such situations are present all over Balkans/Eastern Europe. And it has nothing to do with ethnicity, it is just underdevelopment and a sort of overrated traditionalism.

We had such cases last year, in Romania, among Gypsy people, two families who tried to marry a 12 years-old boy with a 10 years-old girl... an old Gypsy custom.
Everything ended-up on Euronews, and Baroness Emma Nicholson of Winterbourne, Member of European Parliament, was so upset that Romanian authorities were ready to arrest all the participants at the wedding [under the accusation of complicity in abusing children's rights]! Finally, only the parents were fined and social workers were tasked to supervise the situation and report periodically to state authority.

Recently, a guy, Romanian, no Gypsy, has abused his 11 years old niece, and she became pregnant. The girl aborted in England, on Saturday (the pregnancy was too advanced, and abortion was not permitted under current Romanian laws).

Two stories, two ethnicities, one bottom line:
such cases are resulting from, (inter alia) lack of education, enforcing traditions which are already contradicting current laws, lack of attention from authorities, ignorance, abusive behavior, stupidity, mental disturbed people...

Nothing in this list may be considered as specific for a certain ethnicity, religion, language or skin color.
Honestly, I can see why Italian TV channels are bringing up this news story (Italy is in a sort of anti-Roma frenzy these days, they plan to take the fingerprints of each and every Gypsy! grotesque!). But for us, in Balkans, this is just another story about how stupid human beings really are, all over the world.
So, let's not spend more time on this, OK?

Best from Bucharest,

Sunny - 14 is the Italian standard...now that you know how to read, it's time to work on understanding what you read.
(James VII, 6 July 2008 19:33)
i understand what i read, im just not sure you do. everybody on this site is critisizing the man from kosovo for marrying an 11yo even tho in italy 14 is the age of consent which is still too young by western standards for someone over 18 but no body said anything which must mean 14 is just as acceptable in serbia as in italy but not england, USA, australia

Guys these comments, especially comments from my Serb friends really make me laugh…
- it is the HIGH moment for Serbia to define its borders and to define the rules to whom it gives its citizenship (italy) – We are not anymore Serbian citizens good boy/girl…!
- Only thing that can happen from now on is that you loose something, but we'll see how much will that be (veki) – Do you really think that this is such an easy task??
- Don't blame B92 for reporting news that CNN isn't aloud to report about how a lot of your people really are (Nikola) – Can you tell me please which media is independent in these days??? This comment made me silly
- You speak of thousands missing and yet don't mention anything about the missing Serbians (also in the UN report) (Kate) – what about the crimes that you did before UN was existing? What about the crimes that you did during Cold War? Do I have to mention 99’s war (if we call it WAR)??

This article is absurde becasue the whole truth has not been printed. The suspect from Kosova with albanian name is a Roma(GYPSY), so is the victim the poor girl from Serbia. Romas/gypsies have albanian and serbian names, and other names of different countries depending where are they have been living.Stop the dirty propagnada guys, is not going to change anything as far as kosova's Independence.
(Ahmet Isufi, 6 July 2008 08:53)

This not about independence this is about a human being who was sold for 17,000 Euro. Why or should say Ahmet why try to put a political spin on this story if you are so sure about this crime then you should have placed a link OPPS you did not have link to place so you are going off you own intelligence. My friend don't blame it on a Roma or a Gypsy last names have nothing to do with it. Currently Kosovo is considered to be like the old west, lawless and if you have money you can do as you please. If there is no order then you will never have a legit goverment when the PM can fire someone because he spoke up. Well there you have a Circus Sans the big top.

pre 15 godina

Mirsad, first B92 does not make the news but merely reports the news so don't shoot the messenger.

Second, if Albanians did not live by such outdated laws there would be no news to report so tell your fellow Albanians to clean up their act as it is them who are ruining your squeaky clean image.

And last, but not least, this guys was probably just doing what the good book says to do as Mohamed's wife was less than 10 years old too herself. I'm sure he thought that if it's good enough for the prophet, it's good enough for him. There are and will be many more instances like this, so brace yourself.

Kate

pre 15 godina

Mirsad - By 'Kosovars' and the context that you use, I take it you mean Kosovo Albanians. You speak of thousands missing and yet don't mention anything about the missing Serbians (also in the UN report).

The Kosovo population is 90% Albanian, so it is a pretty safe bet that these people (the man and the girl) were Albanian. It isn't necessarily the case, but it's likely. I'm sure that details will emerge and it will make the crime no less horrendous either way.

I am amazed that you seem to be insinuating that B92 has a pro-Serb bias! They are a Serbian media channel for goodness sake so their areas or interest are bound to be more Serbian orientated but that doesn't mean biased.

Can you tell me of any Albanian or Kosovan media outlet which would invite anywhere near the same level of balance, open debate or criticism the other way round?

A UN translator was shot for telling someone the time in Serbian in 'peace time' Pristina. Yet there have been Albanians living in Belgrade even during the 1999 Nato attack.

Kate

pre 15 godina

mft - It makes absolutely no difference. The man is a rapist and the girl is a victim twice over: sold like an object by her parents and then raped and having to go through a pregnancy at 11 years old.

The point is that Mirsad was criticising B92 for carrying the story because s/he saw it as a personal attack against Albanians.

As I said, whatever the ethnicity, the girl deserves to have her case highlighted and so does the man. Although judging from reports, the fact that he thinks this is normal in his world is extremely worrying.

What you failed to understand in my comment is not the source of information that I put into question, but the proverbial stance that this media has on Kosovo as strongly biased. You forgot the mad laughter, hand rubbing and shrill peals of "and then we will rule the world..."!! Or did you?!

This is a news story. What does it matter if this 'man' is Serbian, Croatian, Roma or Albanian? He is more likely to be uneducated and from a certain type of background if he thinks there's nothing wrong with buying a child, raping and impregnating her.

I hope that the girl's parents have also been charged and I'm glad that mother and child are being cared for. I hope that their future is easier than their past.

It's actually you who are turning this into some sort of attack against one ethnicity. We should all agree that the story is newsworthy and that it highlights a major problem in Europe of human trafficking.

I suppose the reports of Kosovo being used as a hub for these activities is also just some sort of 'personal attack'.

Let's not forget that this girl is quite likely to be Albanian herself. She deserves her case to be highlighted, more than he deserves it to be hushed up rather than offend others of his nationality.

One thing has nothing to do with the other.
Kosovo deserved and got independence. This guy deserved and got arrest and hopefully jail time.
B92 is a great source of info and did well to include this story in the news. It represents a social phenomenon and it sheds light on how the women rights do falter seriously in Kosovo.
Now that they got independence it is about time for the Kosovars to improve their society starting from the rights of those who are less protected and respected: women, gays, minorities both national and religious.
This will need time, just like it took time in the West. It makes no sense to blame B92 about it.
I am an Albanian too and I hate seeing this news on the top of many others, but let me tell you something. Corriere della Sera, La Repubblica and the rest of the Italian media all had it on cover pages and main news edition.

I wrote about this yesterday in one comment here, I was thoroughly shocked when the Italian ancorman at RAI telegiornale at 8pm announced how "the Albanian had bought a 12-year old Serbian girl for 17.000 euros from her family", and she got pregnant from him, and then the allarmed doctors called the police. The man told in the police that "it was a normal habit in the family to buy a wife", and only later - obviously after telephone protests in Italy - the RAI changed the news that it was an Albaninan who bought an Albanian girl from Kosovo who holds Serbian passport. I said yesterday, and repeat here again, that it is the HIGH moment for Serbia to define its borders and to define the rules to whom it gives its citizenship. Thank you again.

Mirsad, an 11-year-old child being sold and smuggled abroad for purposes of paedophilia would be newsworthy wherever it happened, especially ince in this case she's a Serbian citizen. What's not to report? It's a pity that during your time in the UK you haven't managed to grasp that human trafficking and child molestation are rightly frowned upon in civilised societies. It's the smallest things that you anticipate and attack on; to make it seem OK what you did in the last century (officially last three decades).

Why does b92 post such articles? Why do you continue to endeavour to elude the general public and personify kosovans as such people? Such as the case with the complete lie about the organ trafficking, serbs onwards tend to think all kosovans are organ traffickers!

It's the smallest things that you anticipate and attack on; to make it seem OK what you did in the last century (officially last three decades).

Face it, no one wants to be with you, none of the former yugoslav republics. Soon we will have presevo and bujanovac. And then you will go on television and preach us on international law bla bla.. no one cares..

- You speak of thousands missing and yet don't mention anything about the missing Serbians (also in the UN report) (Kate) – what about the crimes that you did before UN was existing? What about the crimes that you did during Cold War? Do I have to mention 99’s war (if we call it WAR)??

Kate

Ahmet - what propaganda? It's a straightforward news report which doesn't even say the ethnicity of the 'man' or the victim.

You don't try to hide your reality from the media. That was what Milosevic did. Instead you work to change it and make sure the change is real and permanent.

Kate

pre 15 godina

Peggy

pre 15 godina

Mirsad, first B92 does not make the news but merely reports the news so don't shoot the messenger.

Second, if Albanians did not live by such outdated laws there would be no news to report so tell your fellow Albanians to clean up their act as it is them who are ruining your squeaky clean image.

And last, but not least, this guys was probably just doing what the good book says to do as Mohamed's wife was less than 10 years old too herself. I'm sure he thought that if it's good enough for the prophet, it's good enough for him. There are and will be many more instances like this, so brace yourself.

Mirsad, an 11-year-old child being sold and smuggled abroad for purposes of paedophilia would be newsworthy wherever it happened, especially ince in this case she's a Serbian citizen.
