This guy is basing his statement based on some economic boom in the 1950s?

Dude, what kind of expert are you? This is 2008 we're talking about. Yugoslavia is gone, the world faces new challenges, how can you even compare the economy of the 1950s as a basis for the future?

Secondly, Kosovo no longer needs Serbia because it's economy is being re-routed to Albania. That means the new partners for Kosovo are Western partners, not Serbia or Russia or whatever.

And speaking of the current trade between Serbia and Kosovo. Yeah, it's been going downhill at fast rates. Traders have to switch cars at the border, increasing the cost of trade and decreasing the interest in trading. Kosovo and Serbia are efficiently splitting away from each other economically at fast rates, and indeed the Kosovo-Albania highway linking Prishtina to Durres will open Kosovo to a whole new pool of trading.

I don't know what kind of expert this guy is but it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that he's speaking out of bias and anger.

>>>Kosovo achieved the greatest economic progress when it had the closest integrative ties with Serbia – between 1954 and 1974.

Does he really think we're that stupid? Ever heard of Rankovic? So basically, we'd be better off with a Stalin like Serbian dictator over us and of course not even autonomy.
No thanks, plenty of blood has been shed for freedom over these 100 years. Plus, the money is with EU and with Albania which offered Kosova access to it's ports for free and a $1 Billion road is liking them.

Duro,
the typical guy who only reads Serbia boards: Albania is one giant construction pit. Roads, power plants, sewer plants, factories, beach cities...everything is coming into place. By mid 2009 energy will be plenty and even now tax collections have increased by over 100%. Once the Kosova road is open, we'll have 2.5 million Albanians come and spend a two weeks at the beach. It's cheap, they don't mind the dust as we build, and they are in their country. next year we'll have a modern and professional army, just in time for NATO.

3.6 million in Albania
2 million in Kosova
0.5 million in Macedonia
0.6 million in Greece

Higway to Durres, HALELUJA!
The answer to all of "Kosovas" problems, with that higway you will get everything you´ll ever want. Natural gas from Russia, Oil from the middle east, Electricity from New York, and of course donations from EU in cash delivered by trucks directly to the regime in Pristina. All unemployment will be reduced thanks to this amazing highway directly to paradise and economical heaven...

But what happen in a few years when serbia regains border controll as stated in res 1244?

Duro

LOL you Albanians all preach about peace and cooperation and now you deny it eh? What happened with the EU? Or are you only going to trade with Albanians? Get real Albania the Europe second poorest country and a totally failed state in every aspect which is probably the reason why you stole Kosovo from Serbia... you needed a second chance.

7 million? How sad you don't even know your own figures Dardan... there are only 3 million people in Albania and 1,800 000 people in Kosovo add them up and then decide posting your ridicules comments here.

Congratulation's you have a planned highway (which you had to beg money for) from Albania to Kosovo you have achieved so much... thank you for the nice chuckle.

You are a funny guy...

Albania will no longer qualify for IMF soft loans because it has made the transition to a "country in development." I'd say that hardly constitutes a "failed state."

With regard to the highway...it's not made with money the government "begged for", it's made with money the government borrowed...just like every other government on this planet has done at some point..including that of Serbia.

One more thing...Serbia is not the EU. Economic ties with Serbia is certainly desirable...but most definitely not a necessity.

Nothing wrong with tight economic cooperation between Serbia and Kosova. However, as an economist, Popovic should get over the whole "Kosovo is still Serbia" pre-condition. Economy is economy and politics is politics. They can definitely be treated separately.

FYI Nenad Popović:
The Albanian conf-industry and Kosova's chamber of commerce are in a final fase of harmonisation of the economic interest and creating a single unified market.

Dardan

We are building Prishtine-Durres with many extensions to be done by 2009.

A large market of 7 million people is going to expand from Albania to Kosova.

did serbia go deft when i said "bye serbia"!

It is good for all people or countries to cooperate and trade with each other, but based on respect and equality between them.Anyone should accept the new reality of Kosovo and forget the bloody past.

KV

He specified that official trade between central Serbia and the province is at EUR 150mn, but that the unofficial trade amounts to EUR 500mn

^^That's how much a Serb know about Kosovo. Trade between the two nations is in the millions. ^^
