The only power that would like to bomb us, is your allie Russia. Explain me this: NATO is training the Kosova Force, providing us with the weapons (modern ones),so why would NATO bomb us?
We are not affraid from NATO. Should be affraid the supporters of those who threatend on the June of 2007 to point the mass destruction weapons on Europe (Putin did this).

Do you really think that if the Albanians in the Balkans tried to unite all the lands where Albanians live that NATO would do nothing about it?

If Albanians started to break away from the countries they live in outside of Albania, NATO would bomb them back to the stone age and so much would be of your Greater Albania. You try to promote multiculturalism in Kosovo, yet you want countries to fall apart in favor of a few Albanians living in them?

Steve wrote:"Albanians seem to want to live outside Albania more than they want to live inside it's borders".
That's a human nature mr.Steve. The world is to small to spend the life in only one place-country. See the Western Europe citizens immigrating in other countries especially overseas territories!
But since your implicite point is that things are not good even in Albania, I have to admit that you are right mr.Steve. But my justification (since you would ask me this)sounds like following: "That's why we want to be united with Albania to improve the things in Great Albania, so our childrens would see the immigration anly as an adventure".

@ behar - You forget mr behar - that Albanians seem to want to live outside Albania more than they want to live inside it's borders. So why do you talk such nonsense? We all know that Greater Albania is what you want - but you seem to forget that the rest of the world isn't going to let you have it.

kosovo is a stand off between east and west - nothing more or less than that.

If I was a betting man I would suggest that Kosovo will be stuck in a mire for some time to come - and eventually NOTHING will change! All this has been done to keep the K-Albanians quiet before the truth hits home - slowly slowly bit by bit - until you arrive at a worse scenario than you had with autonomy!

Nicholas, maybe you are right, but every other army is better than Serbian was for Kosovars. However, we are happy and let us live with that.

what you said in your post is all true, but with a little difference. The difference is in the interpretation of all those that you have written and that is what matters.

You said"there is strong international opposition to supporting the UDI"
There was no UDI as you say. It was CDI and there is no opposition like you say.

The province of Kosovo already has an army: the Serbian armed forces.

The duties of the KPS can include but are not limited to:

* directing traffic in Pristina
* continuing to provoke the Serbian population
* pretending to solve crimes
* preparing for their inevitable role as cannon fodder for the U.S. in Afghanistan/Iraq
(Nemanja, Connecticut, 25 June 2008 20:21)

Have you ever wondered what the duties of the Army are? I mean beside systematic ethnic cleansing, burning of villages, churches and mosques and massacres of civilians?
After 1999 the Serbian Army duties are denied entry to foreigners who enter Serbia thru Kosovo...It sound like redirecting the traffic to me!Don't enter from this side! Go around!
Not too much difference from KPS in my opinion.

Kosovo is independant like Afganistan is independant, maybe even less.
There is some time needed for the Albanians there to forget about their former master Serbia and to realize they have a new one...
Wouldn't be much surprised if NATO one day get his own '1981' uprising in Kosovo in some distant time.

Ben,

I don't think you understood the comments in the article. Kosovo will NOT be allowed to have an army, and even if lightly armed, will not be allowed to perform any military excercises. This doesn't sound like independence to me. I've been saying it all along, the status quo will continue. Serbs will rule the Serb majority areas and Albanians the other areas, ALL under the supervision of international forces. Neither side will be allowed to have a military presence and no decisions will ever be made without someone else approving or dissaproving. Believe me, the dream of independence is just that, a dream. How could people be so naive is beyond me.

There is going to be a new round of shuttle diplomacy between Belgrade and Pristina; there will not be a Kosovo army formed; EULEX is not being dispatched as planned; there is strong international opposition to supporting the UDI; the UN Resolution 1244 is still the legal framework for the authorities in the province; and Kosovo legally remains part of Serbia... this is all good news in terms of a shift towards sanity, but I can't see what you're gloating about.

Seeing that Kosovo is tying up a great deal of NATO troops, I'm sure they will send some Albanians to the front lines of Afghanistan for some training.

As is so common with NATO, they tend to get brother to fight against brother.

Uh oh.. K-albanians aren't going to like this...

No Army, but a bunch of lightly armed 'Security' units with specific duties - with all command & control to be provided by NATO no doubt.

And will like this even less.....

> "KFOR is here; it's here to stay.

> KFOR has a mandate and the necessary troops, and, if necessary, KFOR has reinforcements," the NATO chief said.

As serbs have made it readily apparent that the military option is off the table & given that Tadic will most likely form government that will be pro-EU, then one wonders at whom this statement is targeted - especially the bit about reinforcements.

Perhaps the ones that have been threatening violence if their expectations aren't met?

ben

Very positive news!

This will mean that K- Govt.t do not need to spend money in arming herself since the security will be paid by NATO.

In this way the Kosovars will have more money to spend in economy.

Western Europe has gained a significant economical advantage exactly from this fact that the security was basically paid by American tax-payers- in this way they could invest their money in economy instead in huge armies.

Consider Albania- for many years could not rely to none of the major security umbrellas NATO or Warshaw pact and had to pay colossal amount of %GDP in a huge army leaving the economy back warded. This mistake will not happen again apparently.
