So the Bosnian Muslims & Croats wanted their independence and self determination from Yugoslavia? Well they got it. Let them take responsibility for their corrupt administration and work shy ethic. No one to blame but themselves. Maybe now they will realise there is no such thing as a free lunch.

DimTuc,

You are making the false assumption that just because Serbs made up 34% of the population that they occupied 30% of the territory. The thing is, Serbs are mainly farmers so they actually did form a majority in a larger geographical region. Bosniaks tend to be more educated and live in cities.

However, if we were to go that route, we must also take into consideration the genocide of the Serbian population in WWII, that greatly affected the demographics of the region. No one should benefit from those types of crimes.

However, that being said, I think Sandjak for RS is a fair trade. Dividing the region upon ethnic lines would be a win/win situation for both Serbs and Albanians.

But if they take the 30% and join it to Serbia on the basis of ethnc principles, they will also have to cede the Sanjak to Bosnia in exchange. Deal?
(DimTuc, 26 June 2008 06:53)

Deal? How about N Kosovo & enclaves go back under Belgrade control, you guys get Preshevo, Montenegro gets Pec and Decani, leaving the rest of Kosovo to Albania while wait for it...........

Croatia cedes the Kraijina to Serbia.

Now how about that. You want fairness and compromise?

Well here it is.

">> I am all for that solution to the economic problems. R.SRPSKA got to start to think about themselves and abandon this unnatural federation with muslims and croats."

"at the pre-war borders, right?"

Yes exactly. "RS" would need first to give p aproximately half its territory, and just keep the bits that pre-war had an unambiguous Serb majority, if it wants it split. That means about 30% of Bosnia, not 50%. They could have doe that in 1992, except they wanted 50-70% instead. The West shamelessly let them have the 50%.

But if they take the 30% and join it to Serbia on the basis of ethnc principles, they will also have to cede the Sanjak to Bosnia in exchange. Deal?

This is too funny. Everyone knows that for the past 12 years, the Muslim/Croat federation has recieved the
lions share of US/EU international aid (billions of dollars), while Republika Srpska for the most part has had to fend for itself. How ironic is it that the muslim half of Bosnia is now broke, while the Republika Srpska stands on their own feet, and the economic situation there continues to improve. Keep up the great work Dodik!

Maybe they could buy €221 worth of lottery tickets? Or try suing Croatia for genocide? Remember, it is the Federation that is having problems and not Republika Srpska.

Well, this really isn't a surprise and I'm sure they'll find a way to blame the Serbs. But being the optimist that I am, the entire BiH will form some kind of federation with Serbia within the next 8 years.

For those who believe it will join the EU. Keep dreaming.

I have a solution to this problem, all the SDA War profiteers (they know who they are)should have their Bank Accounts frozen. They live it up, whilst normal Bosniak citizens grind out thier lives on the minimum wage and with 40% unemployment, even then, they have to pay a bribe to get a job.Wake all people in Bosnia regardless of ethnicity there will be a day of reckoning, just ask yourselves where has all the money donated by the EU gone?. Isn,t it interesting how all 3 sides blame each other and perpetuate the ethno politics of division.Perhaps if religion was taken out of the equasion and humanity put in its place we may just get somewhere.Rage against the ethnic divides.

So if Republika Srpska became independent and joined a federation with Serbia the economy of the rest of Bosnia would improve!

I am all for that solution to the economic problems. R.SRPSKA got to start to think about themselves and abandon this unnatural federation with muslims and croats. The economy for the muslims would be better also if they didn't need to think about the serbs and croats.

The article is not clear on whether it is the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina entity or the Bosnia and Herzegovina as a whole which is near bankruptcy. Could this be made clear?
