That's a different story...but the main obstacle would be recognitions, and Kosovo is about to meet that 67% threshold.

Of course though, anything else is up to Kosovo, if it meets the other criterias or not.

Funcakes, you seem to be assuming that a CoE member recognising Kosovo as independent automatically means that it will support its accesstion to the CoE. This though is not certain. Belarus for example is recognised by CoE states, but has not been admitted as a member. Applicant states need to meet certain criteria.

Actually, to be a member of the Council of Europe, you need a 67% recognition.

COE has 47 countries.

67% recognition is 31 countries.

Kosovo has been recognized by 29 COE countries.

All it needs is 2 more to be admitted.

Where will those two come from?

Malta has begun recognition procedures and is due to recognize on top of the month.

The other recognition will either come from Macedonia, who has to do it due to the coalition agreement with either Albanian party, or, Portugal who has indicated that procedures have begun.

Two other dark horses are the overly pressurised Montenegro, or the NATO aspiring Ukraine and it's proximity with the US.

COE membership is a done deal.

OSCE as well.

Kosovo will join CoE sooner or later. As far as CoE..how can you be the council of Europe when you have nations such as Russia and Japan in it? Just where does "Europe" end?

@ Dan - The Council of Europe is not the EU. It is in fact divided over 'independence'. In addition to Spain, Romania, Greece, Cyprus, Portugal, Slovakia and Malta - the 7 EU members that reject UDI - it also includes Bosnia, Montenegro, Macedonia, Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Moldova, none of which have recognised the illegal declaration of independence.
