The 'emergency request' from Jovica Stanisic's lawyers, demanding their client's release for urgent medical treatment in Belgrade, came the same day as this news

about the arrest of a group lawyers, police and doctors at Belgrade's military clinic, VMA. Those arrested were suspected, among other things, of having accepted bribes to falsify medical documentation for criminal suspects. These are some of the same professionals who would have been responsible for treating Jovica Stanisic, and for certifying that he was (or was not) medically fit to return to The Hague to face trial.

Under the circumstances it's not surprising that the UN judges decided to keep Stanisic in The Hague, rather than risk the possibility that his treatment in Belgrade might turn into an open-ended stay.

"The trial is expect to continue once Stanišić’s health improves enough for him to attend. "

- if the HAgue is blocking his medical recovery which would be provided by temprorary release one has to ask why they wish to put off this trial ? Should Stanišić’s health decline further question marks will be reaised about the competence of medical treatment given at the Hague and might promt more outburts from party officials of a potential Serbian governement such as;

""The Hague, the Dutch, they killed [Slobodan] Milošević , and they should at least have the decency and morals to admit that their doctors killed him,” Mrkonjić said. "

The death were it to occur of another Serbian in the Hague would further reinforce such viewpoints and the Hague will have been soley responsible given they blocked independent medical treatment again!
