I think most of you suspect to much behind Rehn's words. He simply has no power over what memberstates will demand when it comes to membership of Serbia. Just as two minor countries (the Netherlands and Belgium) could block the SAA against the wishes of the EU commission, so any country can make conditions for Serbia's membership. We will only know when the decision has to be made.

The only thing that one can reasonably sure of is that as both sides believe that Serbia should become a member of the EU in the end a solution will be found. But that may take time.

After the remaining 3 war criminal fugitives get sent to the Hague, then the condition to Serbia to recognize Kosova will be implemented and not before -- it will be too much at once.

miri, it depends on how you define a neighbour. Unless all EU countries have recognised Kosovo then they cannot themselves consider Serbia and Kosovo to be neighbours.

Slovenia both before it joined and afterwards has had a dispute with Croatia about sea access and fishing. Cyprus has joined despite being divided and in dispute with Turkey.

In other words, once the current conditions are met, THEN they'll add recognition of Kosovo as a "new" condition.

This is actually a CURRENT condition. Derives from the requirement that any country joining EU should NOT have any dispute with its neighbors and should be stable. Kostunica can scream "Kosovo je Srbija" but the application to enter EU will have to be signed by those very countries that think otherwise and have already distinguish Kosova as a sovereign state.

"Rehn also said that now is not the time "to speculate whether recognizing Kosovo might become a condition for Serbia to join the EU","

In the words of Olli Rehn this will proved that the EU/NATO OCCUPIERS has no authority to strip Serbia of it's territory and install a puppet state of kosovo. and it's clearly seen that the UN particularly the UNSC has the "sole" authority to determine the future of the kosovo province. Wake up Albanians!! so called R.O.K is failing!!
